Chapter 194: Chapter 194: Was It You Who Poisoned Him?
Ningwan took Jin Yingzi out, first to find Wu Taotao.
The two had briefly lost contact, but quickly got back in touch.
Ye Shao was also working a summer part-time job at the cafe opposite Wu Taotao’s school.
However, Wu Taotao and the others were about to go on vacation and were very busy recently.
Ningwan went to Ye Shao’s café first, then called her, and it took a while for her to come over.
"When did you come back? You didn’t even tell me."
Wu Taotao was both happy and surprised to see Ningwan.
Ningwan frowned and asked, "Have you lost weight?"
Wu Taotao hesitated, then quickly shook her head, "No, I actually gained weight. How could I have lost weight?"
"Surely you’ve lost weight, I can tell," Wangyue said.
Wu Taotao reached out to pinch Wangyue’s face, "You’re the one who’s gained weight! Wangyue, you can’t keep eating, or you’ll become a little fatty."
"What’s wrong with becoming fat? If I become fat, I’ll be a cute fatty," Wangyue made a cute face.
"If you become fat, no one will like you." Wu Taotao threatened her.
Wangyue snorted, "I don’t need anyone to like me, as long as Miss Ye likes me."
With that, she coyly leaned on Ningwan.
Ningwan laughed and ruffled her hair.
Ye Shao, who was nearby, snorted, "You’re not fat, and yet nobody particularly likes you."
Wu Taotao’s face went stiff.
Ningwan frowned, "What do you mean?"
"Nothing, kids always talking nonsense all day long. Hurry up and get to work, aren’t you worried the manager will see and dock your pay?" Wu Taotao glared at Ye Shao.
Ye Shao pursed his lips and continued working.
Ningwan sat down and asked Wu Taotao, "How are things with Leng Ziqing now?"
"Still the same, pretty good," Wu Taotao replied with a smile.
However, her smile seemed a bit stiff.
Ningwan knew her well enough to see the abnormality on her face.
However, although Wu Taotao seemed chatty, she was aware of her own boundaries.
If she didn’t want to talk about something, asking wouldn’t get answers.
She was the type who wouldn’t cry until she saw the coffin, and wouldn’t admit to anything without solid evidence.
Ningwan didn’t press further, instead sent Wu Wei to investigate some matters.
Now that Ye Shao was living in Wu Taotao’s rented place, Ningwan expressed her gratitude and asked if it was convenient for her.
If it wasn’t convenient, she would ask Ye Shao to leave.
Zhan Hanjue had a house outside, and Ye Shao could live there.
"I won’t go, I like it here." Ye Shao came over and said firmly.
"Ye Shao, you might like it here, but it may not be convenient for Taotao. She might have dates, how is it appropriate for you to stay there?" Ningwan lectured him.
Wu Taotao quickly said, "It’s fine, let Ye Shao stay with me, my brother isn’t home anyway. The place is empty, he can stay as my companion."
"Leng Ziqing isn’t there?" Ningwan asked.
Leng Ziqing used to live at Wu Taotao’s place, had he moved out?
Sure enough, Wu Taotao’s expression turned awkwardly sour, and she nodded with a forced smile, "He went back to live at home, his mother got sick recently, so he went home to take care of her."
Ningwan frowned.
Mrs. Leng got sick?
How could that be, when she still had the energy to run to the Zhan Family and tattle, what illness could there possibly be?
However, she didn’t say anything more, just nodded, letting Ye Shao continue staying with Wu Taotao.
After finishing the conversation, Ningwan asked Wangyue to stay in the café while she went to the school.
Upon hearing this, Wangyue shook her head immediately, "No, Miss Ye, I want to follow and protect you. The old master said you must be kept safe."
"I’m just going to school, what danger could there be? If you come along, you’ll be the biggest insecure factor. Alright, be good, I’ll have Ye Shao get you some snacks, just wait here for me," Ningwan coaxed.
Wangyue had no choice but to stay here with a pout.
Ningwan went to the school with Wu Taotao.
On the way, Ningwan several times wanted to ask about Wu Taotao and Leng Ziqing, but Wu Taotao skirted around the topics.
In the end, Ningwan had to give up on asking.
After parting ways with Wu Taotao, she went to the Traditional Chinese Medicine department to find Wen Jianan.
Wen Jianan didn’t expect her to come looking for him.
He was both surprised and delighted.
Internally overwhelmed, but externally expressionless.
"What do you need?"
"Do you know Bai Qishu?"
Ningwan didn’t beat around the bush and asked directly.
Wen Jianan frowned, "I do. How do you know him?"
Ningwan laughed softly, "You gave me such an obvious hint, how could I not know? So, do you also know about Chasing Silk?"
"Chasing Silk? What about Chasing Silk?" Wen Jianan was confused.
Ningwan frowned, deeply examining him, as if trying to discern the truth from his expressions.
Wen Jianan felt uncomfortable under her gaze.
It was like being watched by a teacher after doing something wrong as a child.
"Why are you looking at me like that? Do you think I’m lying?" Wen Jianan asked irritably.
Ningwan noticed that every time Wen Jianan spoke to her, it seemed like he was easily agitated.
Had he really liked her before?
Ningwan doubted it.
She always felt Wen Jianan treated her as if she were a sworn enemy from a past life.
"Since you won’t admit it, I’ll be blunt. I now suspect you are linked to Zhan Hanjue’s poisoning."
"What? Poisoning?" Wen Jianan was shocked.
Ningwan said, "Zhan Hanjue has been poisoned with Chasing Silk. The Chasing Silk Poison belongs to the Bai Family, destroyed over a decade ago. But Bai Qishu is from the Bai Family, with knowledge of the formula, and with you being a top student in the Traditional Chinese Medicine department, maybe the two of you could create a new Chasing Silk formula together, you know what I mean?"
"Ha, so now you suspect it’s me and Bai Qishu working together to research Chasing Silk and poisoning Zhan Hanjue?" Wen Jianan clenched his fists in anger.
Ningwan said, "You resented Zhan Hanjue because of your cousin, and wanted revenge, it makes sense."
"Then why don’t you say it’s because I like you, that’s why I wanted to poison him," Wen Jianan retorted.
Ningwan felt awkward, cleared her throat, and said, "I considered that possibility, although Zhan Hanjue also thought the same. But I think you wouldn’t like me, when you see me, it’s like I’ve desecrated your ancestors’ graves, with such deep resentment, could that be love?"
Wen Jianan: "..."
Apparently, in her eyes, that’s how he had always been.
Heh, does this mean he has been utterly failing as a person?
To like someone yet make them think he hated them.
No wonder, it turned into a one-sided, fruitless affair.
"Think whatever you want, but his poisoning has nothing to do with me. Someone as cruel and ruthless as him must have plenty of enemies, it’s normal for someone to poison him for revenge. You should investigate how many enemies he has and how many women he’s wronged," Wen Jianan mocked coldly.
"So, it’s really not you?"
