Chapter 277: Chapter 150: He Wants Another Child (Part 2)
However, she is no longer the Rebecca Quentin she once was. No matter how moved she might be, nothing will change her mind; she and he could never be together. The naive moments have passed, the longing is gone; what she desires now is just a simple and unremarkable life.
Suddenly, a phone ringtone disrupted Rebecca Quentin’s thoughts.
She picked up the phone, glanced at the screen, and then pressed the answer button, "Hello..."
"Becca." Skyler Jones’s voice, hoarse with suppressed longing, came through the phone.
"Hmm."
"Are you okay?" Skyler Jones asked with concern.
Rebecca Quentin got up, walked to the window, and softly replied, "Something happened recently, but it’s been resolved."
"As long as you’re okay, I’m relieved."
"By the way, how are my sister and Marie?"
"They’re fine, you don’t need to worry."
"Mr. Jones, please take good care of them..."
"Marie is my daughter; the love I give her is absolutely sufficient."
"And my sister?"
Skyler Jones was silent for a few seconds before saying, "The situation between Christine Quinn and me is not as simple as you think, besides, I only consider her as Marie’s mother."
"Mr. Jones..." Rebecca Quentin exhaled lightly, "You know my sister’s feelings for you, I really don’t want her to get hurt again..."
"I won’t harm her."
"You are already hurting her... Why can’t you give her a little more of your heart?"
"Then why are you unwilling to give a little of your heart to me?"
"I..."
"Becca, the world is not just about Howard Geoffrey. When you’re helpless, you could also think of me," Skyler Jones’s words were tinged with jealousy.
Rebecca Quentin continued to gaze out at the entire city of New York through the window, softly saying, "You misunderstand; my world is just me."
"Becca..."
Noticing that the deeply asleep Andrew in bed was stirring, Rebecca Quentin hurriedly said, "Enough, Mr. Jones, it’s late, I want to sleep, let’s talk another time..."
Before Rebecca Quentin could end the call, Skyler Jones coldly stated, "You never used to avoid me like this, is it because of Christine Quinn?"
"No, I’m not avoiding you; I’ve always considered you just a friend. I don’t want to talk too long because I’m afraid of waking up the kid," Rebecca Quentin said truthfully.
Skyler Jones didn’t push the matter and transitioned to his usual gentle tone, "Alright then, I’ll call you next time."
"Hmm."
The call ended.
Rebecca Quentin set the phone down and approached the bed, gently patting the recently disturbed Andrew.
The child used to not be so easily woken by noise, showing how restless his sleep had become.
Thankfully, the child was finally back by her side...
She vowed never to let anyone take her child away again.
This night was the most peaceful one Rebecca Quentin had slept in recent times.
Even though she had to get up in the middle of the night to make milk for Andrew, she didn’t feel tired at all. Every glance at her son filled her heart with endless satisfaction.
Before daylight fully broke, Andrew had already woken...
After freshening up, Rebecca Quentin sat with Andrew in the living area to play.
Andrew was in a good mood today, laughing happily at any little jest...
Each time Rebecca Quentin saw Andrew’s innocent smile, she wondered what kind of personality he would possess when he grew up. Why did she hope he would be as smart and wise as his father, yet hope he wouldn’t be as dark and brooding?
After laying him down on the sofa, Rebecca Quentin gazed at the babbling baby, softly saying, "Baby, will you blame Mommy for not giving you a complete family when you grow up?"
The child’s innocent eyes were open, unaware of what Rebecca Quentin was saying, yet he seemed to be listening intently, calming down.
Feeling tender, Rebecca Quentin picked Andrew up from the sofa, kissed his chubby little face, and affectionately said, "No matter how tough the future is, Mommy will always take care of you..."
After a while of playing, Andrew fell asleep, and Rebecca Quentin carried him to the bed. She intended to nap with him but suddenly heard a sound coming from the living room.
With bodyguards guarding outside, there was clearly only one person who could enter the apartment...
Getting out of bed, Rebecca Quentin opened the room door.
Sure enough, the person in the living room was him.
He must have just gotten off the plane, wearing a suit, with what seemed like morning dew in his tousled hair, and a slightly fatigued yet handsome face.
Upon hearing the sound of the door opening behind him, Howard Geoffrey, who was loosening his tie, turned around, unintentionally locking eyes with her.
Rebecca Quentin immediately broke eye contact with him, gently opened the door and spoke first, "Back so early."
Howard Geoffrey paused his action of loosening his tie and walked toward Rebecca Quentin, enclosing her in his arms, "Why don’t I see a bit of surprise on your face?"
Rebecca Quentin pushed Howard Geoffrey away, keeping her distance, "Stop touching."
Standing still, Howard Geoffrey smirked, "Do we really need this kind of barrier between us?"
Unlike Howard Geoffrey’s smile, Rebecca Quentin’s face stiffened, and she coldly said, "Your return is timely, I want to go back to Alton, please stop restricting my freedom."
"You really have no conscience, woman. I helped you get Andrew back from my mother, and not only do I not get a word of gratitude when you see me, you won’t even show me a bit of a good face?"
Rebecca Quentin glared angrily at Howard Geoffrey.
Is there anyone more shameless in this world? He shouldn’t think she has forgotten how he forced her...
After all that’s happened, what words of gratitude does he expect from her? That she’s not tearing into him is already due to her good upbringing!!
