Chapter 275: Chapter 149: Does She Miss Him? (Part 2)
Skyler Jones’s expression turned extremely unpleasant.
Howard Geoffrey remained calm and composed, lifting the freshly poured red wine by the waiter and taking a sip.
Skyler, full of anger, left.
Howard watched the red liquid swaying in the wine glass, a smile forming at the corner of his mouth.
Jason Wood approached after Skyler left.
"Boss."
Howard’s gaze remained fixed on the wine glass and he didn’t respond.
Jason asked puzzledly, "Boss, you wanted to discuss the project with Mr. Jones, why bring up Miss Quentin? Your relationship with Mr. Jones has just improved, and now because of Miss Quentin..."
Howard’s smile was meaningful, "Do you think he really came to discuss the project today?"
Jason shook his head, not understanding.
Howard bluntly said, "I don’t need to worry about the project on his behalf."
Jason was puzzled, "Robinson’s sudden defection clearly indicates his dissatisfaction with you, boss. He now wants ’Oversky’ and ’Corbia’ to be evenly matched, just to see your attitude towards Miss Robinson. If you continue to ignore Miss Robinson for Miss Quentin, Robinson will ultimately ensure that ’Oversky’ misses out on the Hope City project... This is a very serious issue."
"Serious?" Howard sneered, "You’re underestimating my brother. ’Oversky’ was able to rise so quickly in just a few years, it’s not just luck for my brother! I never thought he needs my help to secure the Hope City project. With his ability, he can solve the current problem effortlessly."
Every time Howard mentioned Skyler’s ability, Jason found it hard to agree.
Mr. Jones had been in the position of the boss’s brother for a long time, yet he never seemed to surpass the boss in any matter. Jason believed Mr. Jones might have a business mind but always fell slightly short compared to the boss. Even when the boss said Mr. Jones could easily solve the issue of not securing the Hope City project bid, he still held a skeptical view.
Jason curiously asked, "Then... if you’re not worried about Mr. Jones, why did you personally come to Paris?" He initially thought his boss was there to help Mr. Jones since "Skytop" was not aiming for the Hope City project.
Howard’s gaze stayed on the wine glass, replying unrelatedly, "Absence makes the heart grow fonder; I wonder if Becca misses me after just a few days apart."
"Uh..."
Jason, for the first time, didn’t know how to reply to the boss’s question and wanted to retreat quietly.
Just as Jason turned to leave, Howard’s voice, restored to its usual cool authority, came through, "Roye has been handling Skytop’s business for me in T City. I’m considering whether I should have you switch places with him."
Jason, eyes wide with shock, turned back, "Boss..." Had he done something wrong?
Howard’s cold gaze swept over him, "You’ve been with me for so many years, yet your capabilities haven’t improved at all."
Jason turned pale with fright.
"I wanted you to keep an eye on the old lady, yet you didn’t even know she went to New York with Alice. How are you doing your job?" Howard’s tone was stern.
Jason felt his legs go weak but dared not explain his mistake. Indeed, he had overlooked the matter. When Miss Robinson came to visit the old lady, he thought she was just accompanying her and didn’t report it to the boss. Who would have thought Miss Robinson would take the old lady to New York and catch the boss with Miss Robinson...
Jason had been feeling lucky the boss hadn’t confronted him about it, but now... the boss’s memory was evidently sharp.
Seeing Jason bowing his head, Howard’s tone softened a bit, "Considering I still have use for you, I’ll let this pass, but I don’t expect you to make a mistake a second time."
Jason looked up happily, "Yes, is there anything else the boss needs me to do?"
"You don’t need to watch the old lady anymore, help me with something else."
"Yes."
New York.
Rebecca Quentin sat in a daze on the sofa in Howard Geoffrey’s apartment, her mind filled with the conversation she had with Mrs. Geoffrey two days ago.
As long as she could prove to Mrs. Geoffrey that she had no intention of being with Howard, Mrs. Geoffrey would return Andrew to her. But how should she prove it?
Howard wasn’t in New York right now, so she couldn’t pull Howard to explain it to Mrs. Geoffrey. Relying on her words alone, Mrs. Geoffrey simply wouldn’t believe her...
This was all Howard’s fault; if he hadn’t disrupted her peaceful life, she wouldn’t be feeling the pain of missing her child now.
She wondered how the child was doing. Although she knew Mrs. Geoffrey would take good care of him, not having him by her side made her uneasy...
She couldn’t wait any longer; she wanted to see Andrew and bring him back to Alton...
Thinking of this, Rebecca Quentin took out her phone, hesitated several times, and dialed Howard Geoffrey’s number.
The call connected quickly...
Rebecca spoke first, "When... are you coming back?"
Howard was at that moment stepping onto the stairs of his private jet, preparing to return.
Hearing her seemingly forced call, he teased, "What? Miss me?"
Always easily flustered by his words, Rebecca blushed, retorting, "I just want to know when you’re coming back."
"After I finish dealing with the project’s matters."
"When will that be?"
Rarely did Rebecca voluntarily call him. Howard seemed to enjoy this time conversing with her, replying, "I can’t be certain."
"I don’t have time to continue wasting here... Howard, your mother wants me to prove that I don’t intend to be with you, only then will she return Andrew to me. After thinking it through, the best way is for us to make it clear in front of your mother. I really don’t want your mother to trouble me again in the future, I’m begging you!!"
Howard’s tone turned tender and husky, "Baby, when did I ever say I wanted to make it clear with you in front of Mom?"
"Do you intend to confine me all my life?"
"No, I want to keep you by my side all my life."
"Please don’t say such things anymore, I don’t want to hear it..."
"Then I’ll tell you slowly when I get back."
Frustrated and exasperated, Rebecca exclaimed, "Lunatic!"
Howard, smiling, walked into the cabin, "I have something to do, I’ll hang up now."
"Don’t hang up..."
Howard leaned against the door, "Hmm, anything else?"
