Chapter 9 Rescue Supplies

Soon, a middle-aged female rescue team member approached Tang Li.

"Show your ID. Which floor, which unit?"

The questions were brief, clearly having been asked countless times before.

Tang Li cooperated, presenting her ID and answering all questions. Her information was quickly registered.

"Each person will receive 6 packs of instant noodles, 3 packs of bread, 3 sausages, 3 bags of biscuits, and 10 bottles of mineral water. This is your ration for the next 3 days."

"If the flood hasn't receded in 3 days, rescue teams will come again, meaning on July 24th. Of course, if the flood has receded by then, they won't come."

"Furthermore, water, electricity, and natural gas are all cut off, the refrigerators have stopped working, and the temperature is very high. You can't cook at home, and raw rice and flour can't be eaten directly. Fresh ingredients will also spoil easily."

"You can exchange these items with us for water and food that are easier to preserve, store them with us, or exchange them for pre-packaged meals."

The aunt rattled off all the necessary information in one go.

It was evident that these were questions countless people had asked before. After all, it had been over 5 hours since the heavy rain began. Their location was certainly not the first place where supplies were being distributed.

Tang Li, knowing this from her previous life, listened and nodded repeatedly, asking no further questions. She only mused silently:

"It seems the authorities already knew at this point that this flood wouldn't recede anytime soon and were preparing for long-term rescue."

"That's why they only distributed these relief supplies. If people didn't have any stored food at home, they'd at least survive. They were also salvaging usable supplies from the public."

"It's a pity, no one could have predicted the severity of the disaster..."

The aunt was relieved that Tang Li had no complaints about the relief supplies. She detested those who took free relief items and then complained or even demanded more.

She then asked, "Do you have battery on your phone?"

Tang Li quickly took out her phone, which showed 99% battery.

Seeing this, the aunt said, "Connect to our Wi-Fi, scan the QR code, and it will generate a QR code for receiving relief supplies. Just scan this QR code when you collect your items."

Tang Li did as she was told. Although the rescue team's Wi-Fi was very slow, the operation was successful.

The aunt finally reminded her, "Conserve the battery on your phone and power banks. Turn them off when you're not using them. There's no need to keep them fully charged all the time."

Tang Li responded with a guilty conscience. It seemed she would have to be mindful of using her power bank in the future and not constantly charge her phone.

Seeing Tang Li as well-behaved and pretty, the rescue aunt, deeming her a good child, offered a few more words of comfort before moving on to the next person.

Good child Tang Li: "..."

While she had internet access, Tang Li sent a message to Tang Guo to let her know she was safe and reminded her not to lend her water and food to others. Although Tang Guo couldn't receive it yet, when the rescue team reached her place the day after tomorrow, she would be able to receive it once she connected to the rescue team's Wi-Fi.

Putting away her phone, Tang Li looked around again. As they waited in line, everyone had their flashlights turned off to conserve power. In the dim light of the emergency lamps, only people's silhouettes were visible. The temperature was already high, and with so many people gathered together, it was even more stifling. Many people were fanning themselves with whatever they had.

Tang Li regretted not bringing a fan. Since she couldn't easily take one out from her spatial storage now, she had to endure the heat, letting sweat trickle down. Fortunately, the line moved quickly.

When she reached the fourth floor, Tang Li saw people standing at the entrance to the stairwell door in front of the elevator, watching those in line. These were the residents from the first to third floors, who had apparently already received their supplies. They had opened the window of the fourth-floor elevator lobby, enjoying the breeze and the rain, leisurely watching those still queuing for supplies. Residents from the third floor had even brought out sunflower seeds they had stored at home, and they chatted while cracking them. One aunt intermittently shone her flashlight onto the people in line, seemingly searching for someone.

The flashlight beam landed on Tang Li and lingered for a moment. Tang Li felt the light was glaring and instinctively raised her hand to shield her eyes. She then heard the aunt say to the person beside her, "Tsk tsk, these young girls nowadays, their clothes are so revealing. They're still striking poses, as if they're afraid they won't get taken advantage of." Her voice was not at all restrained, and given the direction of her flashlight, it was obvious who she was talking about. Many people turned their gazes towards Tang Li.
