Chapter 91 Investigation

"Miss Tang, no need to be nervous. We just have a few simple questions," said Liu Feng, the leader of the special investigation team, a middle-aged security officer with years of criminal investigation experience. He sat opposite Tang Li.

Beside him was someone Tang Li was very familiar with: the female security officer who had answered her first call to the Public Security Brigade, Qiao Lin.

The third person, who hadn't introduced himself, was only known to be surnamed Du. He appeared to be under thirty.

"I'm not nervous, but time is tight," Tang Li told the three of them. "Our team is going on a mission on the sixth. I just joined the team yesterday, and we only have three or four days to train. I need to hurry to the Mercenary Guild."

The Peng Corporation team had gone on their mission this Monday. According to regulations, they had to go on another mission the following Monday. She had only three days left, and only the afternoons, to train with her teammates. During this time, she also had to learn Guo Shu, undergo team assessments for accuracy and coordination, and deal with any other unforeseen events. Time was extremely limited. Therefore, after lunch, she had quickly come to the Jiangcheng Security Bureau, hoping to conclude matters here early and head to the Mercenary Guild.

Liu Feng then said to Tang Li, "We hope you can recount all your experiences from this morning until now, in every minute detail."

Qiao Lin also took out paper, a pen, and a voice recorder to begin documenting.

Tang Li nodded and recounted everything from waking up that morning until she left the Public Security Brigade, sparing no detail.

Liu Feng asked, "Miss Tang, before you woke up, did you hear any noise?"

Tang Li shook her head. "No."

Liu Feng then asked, "Miss Tang, after you left the Public Security Brigade, where did you go?"

"Team Leader Liu, this is my personal matter and irrelevant to this case. Must I say it?" Tang Li asked with a frown.

Liu Feng replied, "Understanding more details might help in cracking the case."

Tang Li still shook her head. "I can guarantee that what I did after leaving the Public Security Brigade has absolutely no relation to this case!"

Upon hearing this, Liu Feng exchanged a look with Qiao Lin. Qiao Lin nodded.

Liu Feng's expression immediately relaxed. Just as he was about to speak, another person interjected.

"What makes you guarantee that what you did after leaving the Public Security Brigade has no relation to this case?"

"We've reviewed the surveillance footage. For over a month, you've disappeared from the cameras for a period every morning. This morning, after leaving the Public Security Brigade, you disappeared from the cameras again. We sent people to search that blind spot, but found that you, along with your vehicle, had vanished!"

"If it were truly a private matter unrelated to the case, why the secrecy? Why can't you tell us?"

"We have reason to suspect that what you did after disappearing is precisely why those people were tracking you!"

Liu Feng and Qiao Lin's expressions changed drastically upon hearing these words. It was the third person, the young man surnamed Du, who had been silent until now.

Tang Li was not surprised that the security bureau had accessed surveillance footage to investigate her. However, the attitude of the person speaking now was problematic. Tang Li did not show anger at his words, but rather regarded the young man surnamed Du with a scrutinizing gaze.

She spoke slowly, "Firstly, these trackers are tracking me, not you. I am more eager than you to find out who is behind these trackers."

"Therefore, if my personal affairs were indeed related to this case, I would certainly tell you."

"Secondly, I am very willing to cooperate with your work. But this does not mean I cannot have my own secrets, or even have to let you know my private affairs."

"After all, I am the victim, not the suspect. Those you apprehended are the ones you should be interrogating."

"Lastly, I reported the case because those people were tracking me. But your current actions are no different from those trackers in my eyes."

"I have reason to suspect that you, and those trackers, are in league together!"

Tang Li finished her last sentence, her gaze fixed intently on the young man surnamed Du.
