Ge'er and Tiantian both received calls from Jiang Nan Fang. Hearing that her sister had started dating a man she had just met and was not returning home at night, they were both very worried.
However, Ge'er was busy with a project that was nearing completion, and she was unable to spare the time. Coincidentally, Tiantian had already started her holiday early and had more free time. She and Chen Dongyang took on the task.
The two of them sprang into action and soon drove to Nanshan Villa.
Upon entering the house, Chun Chun was indeed not there.
After asking the nanny and the housekeeper, they learned that she had gone to help next door. The two then turned and went to Chen Jiaojiao's house.
At the Chen residence, Chun Chun was wearing an apron, and Peng Fei had a plastic garbage bag draped over him. They both wore paper hats and were using shovels to scrape the black soot off the walls.
Hearing a knock on the door, Peng Fei ran out.
He was surprised to hear that it was Zhan Jing Chun's sister and brother-in-law.
Zhan Jing Chun also did not expect her second sister and brother-in-law to actually come and help them, without even giving her a heads-up.
"Sis, why are you two here? I told you you didn't need to help..."
Tiantian's first action upon entering the room was to size up Peng Fei. She found the young man to be quite good-looking and in good shape, giving her a good first impression, but his character still needed to be assessed.
She suppressed her questions and pretended nothing was amiss, saying,
"Your brother-in-law and I had nothing else to do. This is your first time renovating a house, and as professionals, how could we not help? Didn't you say you were renovating it yourself? Why are you at Xiang Si Yuan's house?"
Tiantian then omitted the beginning and end and explained the incident of the house catching fire.
"So that's what happened. Those little brats are really bad. But is it really okay not to tell Jiaojiao?"
Zhan Jing Chun said, "The incident has already happened. What's the use of telling her? It would only lead to Xiang Si Yuan being punished again. He already knows he made a mistake, so let's give him a chance."
Was it really for Xiang Si Yuan? She said it so righteously.
Tiantian didn't expose her and, along with Chen Dongyang, also put on plastic garbage bags and started helping.
Chen Dongyang deliberately approached Peng Fei and chatted with him casually.
Through his male intuition, he found that the young man was quite diligent, spoke very honestly, and had no major flaws. Most importantly, he was good-looking and young, a good match for Chun Chun.
No wonder Chun Chun liked him.
If they assessed him and found his character to be good, even if his family was a bit poor, it would actually be acceptable.
The Zhan family's financial resources were already more than enough, so they didn't need to care too much about money.
As long as the two loved each other and Chun Chun was happy, that was all that mattered.
Time passed quickly. In the blink of an eye, the children's homework for the day was completed. Seeing the four of them dressed like this was quite fun, and they all wanted to join in.
Everyone was given sandpaper and gloves. They each took a section, and with more people, the work was faster. By noon, they had sanded off all the black marks on the walls.
At noon, Peng Fei invited them to stay for lunch, offering to cook.
Tiantian and Chen Dongyang did not refuse.
Peng Fei went into the kitchen. Seeing that he was still cooking after working all morning, Zhan Jing Chun felt concerned and wanted to help, but Tiantian stopped her.
"Your brother-in-law cooks at home anyway. What's the big deal? This is one of the basic qualities of men nowadays. I say, why are you so concerned about him? Could it be that you like him?"
Zhan Jing Chun felt embarrassed to admit it, as her past with Peng Fei was not glorious. She didn't know if her sister and brother-in-law would accept Peng Fei if they found out.
Even though their family was very open-minded, they didn't understand Peng Fei and couldn't empathize with the helplessness that a difficult upbringing brought to a person.
She was very afraid that because they knew those things, they would reject him.
Just like how she had a preconceived notion that Peng Fei was a bad person at first.
Chen Dongyang walked into the kitchen to help. Seeing that Peng Fei was quick and skillful, and very experienced, with rough hands, he asked him if he often cooked at home and where he was from.
Peng Fei, without any reservations, answered them one by one.
Chen Dongyang was very surprised.
"Your hometown is in Y Province? Which city? Which county?"
Peng Fei didn't know, nor could he imagine how much the Zhan family had delved into every province, every county, and even every town and village in the country when they were looking for Zhan Jing Chun.
He also didn't know that his hometown had been visited by Tiantian.
He honestly stated the names of the county and town, and Chen Dongyang was surprised again.
Could there really be such a coincidence in the world? He was also from that place? Did he know that family?
Did he know what Chun Chun had experienced? Did Chun Chun know that he was also from that place?
If neither of them knew, and it was revealed, their relationship would be ruined.
But if they did know...
He couldn't figure it out. Wouldn't Chun Chun be reminded of painful memories when facing him?
Chen Dongyang suppressed his surprise and quietly called Tiantian outside.
Upon learning that Peng Fei was also from that place, Tiantian was equally surprised.
"No way? Dad personally visited their village later, and even went to that person's house, but he ran away. Could it be..."
They dared not believe it. If Peng Fei was the person who had hurt Chun Chun back then, why was he here?
Did Chun Chun call him over?
Why would Chun Chun do that?
She had clearly fled voluntarily, and she had been acting very distressed recently. She clearly hated that past, so why was she still in contact with him?
They could only comfort themselves, telling themselves it was a coincidence, and Peng Fei was not that person.
However, when Tiantian opened her computer and checked the past visit records, to her regret, Peng Fei was indeed that person.
Tiantian had imagined the person's appearance countless times, but she never expected him to be so young and seem so normal.
And they had been apart for so long, yet they could still get back together?
Could it be that Chun Chun was sick? Did she have Stockholm Syndrome? Did she develop a psychological dependence on the person who hurt her? Did she feel she didn't deserve to like anyone else, and had no other choice but him?
The lunch was very rich. Peng Fei's cooking was good, and all the children ate very happily, but Tiantian found it tasteless.
She dared not show her emotions on her face and could only hide them in her heart. She spent another half day helping in the afternoon.
In the evening, Peng Fei invited them to stay for dinner again, but she couldn't wait any longer. She called Chun Chun back home.
Zhan Jing Chun had a very fulfilling and happy day. After taking a bath, she was like a carefree young girl, sharing her recent creative ideas and showing Tiantian her painting from yesterday.
Tiantian couldn't focus on anything. After much hesitation, she said to her sister,
"I don't know if it's because of the recent psychological pressure, but I feel like I've hit a bottleneck in my career, and I'm very lost and can't be happy. I also have insomnia at night. Am I going to get depressed? Chun Chun, will you accompany me to see a psychologist tomorrow? I don't want your brother-in-law to worry."
Zhan Jing Chun had no idea of the turmoil in her sister's heart.
She thought her sister was really under a lot of mental stress and comforted her well, kindly agreeing.
