Ke Teng was dressed in a sharp black suit and shirt, his hair meticulously styled, exuding the air of a high-society elite with an elegant and composed demeanor as he looked ahead.
He didn't notice Jian Fei.
But Jian Fei couldn't help but call out his name the moment she recognized him.
"Ke Teng!"
The three men in front of him froze, turning their heads to look at her.
Upon realizing it was her, Ke Teng's elegant demeanor softened slightly, a smile appearing in his eyes.
"Jian Fei? What are you doing here too?"
Fortunately, even though she was dressed plainly and had a scar on her face, looking rather embarrassed, Ke Teng didn't seem to mind.
It was only when she met his gaze that Jian Fei realized her disheveled state and felt a belated sense of awkwardness.
"My boss is discussing work here, I came to bring him something. What about you, why are you here?"
Actually, it was a redundant question; seeing him like this, he was clearly here on a business trip.
But Ke Teng still answered her, "I'm here on business. Which floor are you going to? Let's go together."
Seeing that she knew such a high-ranking boss, the server naturally stopped blocking them, and they all entered the elevator together.
Ke Teng turned to speak to her, and as he looked down, he noticed two bruises on her clean face.
One was on her left cheek, and the other was above her right forehead.
They didn't look like they were from a fall; they clearly indicated she had been hit.
His eyes narrowed, "What happened to your face?"
Jian Fei wasn't the type to make friends. She usually focused on her work at the hospital, never dressing up, and her personality wasn't outgoing. She was a nobody.
After spending the whole day at the hospital, no one had noticed anything unusual about her face until Ke Teng.
Seeing the marks, Jian Fei felt a bit embarrassed.
"It's nothing, I just bumped into something."
As a doctor, telling such a flimsy lie clearly showed a lack of thought.
Ke Teng pursed his lips, but it wasn't appropriate to expose her in front of others, so he didn't say anything.
Coincidentally, they were going to the same floor, and as they exited the elevator, they found the private room Jian Fei was looking for.
She said goodbye to Ke Teng and reached out to knock on the door.
Soon, the door opened.
On the sofa directly opposite sat two tall men dressed casually.
A beautifully dressed female colleague sat beside them.
A pile of alcohol was on the coffee table in front of them, and the director's face was flushed, reeking of alcohol.
Jian Fei glanced briefly and handed the item to the director.
"Is this it?"
The director took it and looked, "Yes, it's good you came in time. You're not needed anymore, you can go back."
Jian Fei nodded and turned to leave, but the tall man directly opposite her suddenly extended his hand.
"Why are you letting her go so soon? Since you're here, why not come in and sit for a while?"
When she was pursuing her doctorate, to fit in at formal occasions, Jian Fei had bought a white shirt and a black knee-length skirt.
She had washed it countless times, and now she wore it as work attire.
On her feet were plain black three-centimeter heels, her hair casually tied back, and she wore no makeup.
By any measure, she wasn't the kind of woman who would leave a deep impression on a man at first sight.
The man's sudden invitation surprised not only her but also the director.
However, the director quickly recovered.
The world was full of wonders, and everyone's aesthetic preferences differed. What if she was exactly to Mr. Li's taste?
"That's true. Since you're here, come in and sit for a bit."
Ke Teng walked past Jian Fei and glanced inside with her.
Although he didn't know anyone, that brief glance was enough for him to understand what was going on inside.
Jian Fei wasn't suited for such an occasion, but she still braced herself and entered.
The door closed in front of Ke Teng, and his assistant reminded him.
"Mr. Ke, let's go."
However, he lingered for a few seconds, lost in thought.
"Go find someone and ask who's inside."
Jian Fei entered and instinctively sat next to her female colleague.
Before the director could introduce the two men, the man who had called her in earlier, smiling, spoke.
"Miss Jian, I didn't expect us to meet again so soon."
At his words, Jian Fei, her colleague, and the director all froze.
He knew her?
Her female colleague shot her a jealous glance, but Jian Fei couldn't pay attention, her face filled with confusion.
Seeing her reaction, the other man also chuckled and spoke.
"Miss Jian has a poor memory. We just met a few days ago, and you've already forgotten?"
A buzzing sound in her head, Jian Fei suddenly remembered.
When she returned to her hometown on the weekend, her father had a conflict with someone. Weren't these two fierce men who had confronted them in their Porsches among the two sitting here?
After changing their clothes and putting on smiling faces, coupled with the dim lighting in the private room, she only now recognized them.
No wonder they had asked her to come in.
They were likely here to cause trouble.
She had naively thought that with the police involved, the matter would be settled, but fate was truly ironic.
Hearing their words, the director, though unaware of the full story, showed a hint of relief.
"So, you all know each other. Jian Fei didn't mention it beforehand. That's good. Come, Jian Fei, you can discuss today's matter with Mr. Zhang and Mr. Li."
Jian Fei had only recently joined the hospital and had been handling peripheral tasks. She had never negotiated deals outside, and she had no idea what business they were discussing.
The director's sudden push of this responsibility onto her made her flustered.
"Director..."
"Let's not rush into business. Miss Jian must be tired after rushing over. Come, have a drink to relax."
The man opposite interrupted her and thoughtfully poured her a glass of wine.
Having never drunk a drop of alcohol in her life, as a medical student, she knew the consequences of drinking such a large glass were hard to control.
However, she couldn't find a reason to refuse.
As a woman without power or influence, facing these local ruffians, she had no other recourse but to apologize meekly and beg for less trouble.
Taking the full glass of foreign wine, Jian Fei sighed inwardly, stood up, and bowed respectfully to the two men.
"I apologize, Mr. Zhang and Mr. Li. I was rather foolish a few days ago. If I offended you in any way, please forgive me."
"I'll drink this glass, and you can do as you please."
The two men remained silent, watching her with playful eyes.
Jian Fei downed the wine in one go. As soon as she put down the glass, the man picked up the wine bottle again.
"You're quite good at finding opportunities. Your director clearly wanted you to discuss the project with me, but you took the chance to bring this up."
"Fine, if you're apologizing, you need to show the right attitude. How can one glass suffice?"
Jian Fei often saw lines like "I'll punish myself with three drinks" on television.
Did they expect her to drink three glasses in one go?
"I'm truly sorry, I don't usually drink, I'm afraid..."
"You think you're so important that one drink can solve the problem?"
The man, comfortably seated on the sofa, looked at her with a forced smile.
