The nanny, though old, was not foolish.
Having stayed at the Zhan family's home for so long, she had watched Zhan Jingchun grow up and knew her well.
She didn't know what had happened during her absence, but it was certainly nothing good.
Though the young girl appeared no different on the surface since her return, the nanny could sense her unhappiness.
Zhan Beijue and Jiang Nan Fang were excellent parents, granting their child ample freedom, saying what needed to be said and nothing more.
Even parents sometimes couldn't fully enter their child's inner world. As a nanny, she didn't expect to, but she truly felt for the girl and wished her a speedy recovery.
Thus, she chose her words carefully.
"Chun Chun, don't find me nagging. Although I'm not highly educated and don't know much, I know you have something on your mind. If there's anything you want to say, would you tell me? I promise I won't tell anyone else."
"Your daddy and mommy don't want to pressure you and never say much in front of you, but they are truly worried about you. There's nothing that can't be overcome. Think positively; you're so young, and things will get better, won't they?"
"Just let me accompany you for a walk. If you really don't want to talk, I won't say a word. It's better to have someone by your side for a sense of security, isn't it? I don't like playing with my hands; why would you want me to go back?"
Zhan Jingchun knew that everyone around her cared about her. The aunt had been with her for so long, she was like family.
It was the first time she had heard him speak to her like this. She was touched and genuinely realized that she had caused concern for those around her.
"I'm not unhappy; I just don't know what to say. It's best that you're willing to accompany me, Auntie. Let's walk together then."
As she spoke, she took the aunt's arm and walked slowly forward with a smile.
Watching her retreating figure, Peng Fei's pounding heart gradually calmed down.
He was glad he hadn't rushed out to reveal himself to Zhan Jingchun just then.
Now, he realized his earlier impetuousness.
It wasn't the right time to reveal himself yet.
He hadn't achieved anything significant; he was still the Peng Fei who had come from the mountains, and everything had changed except his love for her.
As a proud daughter of heaven, how could Zhan Jingchun face him with any expression?
She had never said she liked him. His persistent pursuit would only make her feel troubled and disgusted.
Seeing her was a good thing for Peng Fei, but certainly not for Zhan Jingchun.
How could he selfishly intrude into her life again without her consent?
Peng Fei squatted on the lawn with a mixture of loss and happiness, gazing at her greedily, inch by inch, until her figure disappeared around the corner.
As if he were about to lose her again, his heart grew uneasy.
He didn't dare to chase after her, so he quickly scrambled to the base of the wall, climbed back into the villa, and ran upstairs.
Fortunately, he could still see a glimpse of her from his room's window.
Zhan Jingchun seemed to live next door, slowly walking along the road around the villa.
Though she walked slowly, she soon disappeared from view again.
Peng Fei was anxious and rushed to the rooms of the two little ones next door.
After watching for a while, he couldn't see her again, so he went to another bedroom.
Without regard for whether the occupants were asleep or if they minded his intrusion, he grabbed a wooden strip on the door, yanked it off with two loud bangs, stepped back, and kicked the door open with all his might.
The child inside was not yet asleep and was idly grumbling on the bed. Hearing such a loud commotion, he jumped up from the bed, his face filled with terror.
Peng Fei ignored his expression, rushed to the window, and saw Zhan Jingchun again. His agitated heart finally calmed down.
Zhan Jingchun and the nanny had sat down on a wooden bench, holding hands, talking about something.
They looked warm and lovely, enveloped by the night and the lights.
Peng Fei watched them greedily for minutes upon minutes, the child on the bed nearly scared to death by him.
Trembling, the child stood up and grabbed his jacket to put it on.
"What are you doing? What are you looking at? Have you gone mad? Aren't you leaving?"
Peng Fei discovered that this room had an excellent viewing angle, not only allowing him to see Zhan Jingchun for a long time but also directly facing the window opposite.
Could it be that Zhan Jingchun lived in that room?
If she always lived here, would he be able to see her every day?
He suddenly turned around and looked coldly at the boy.
"You, go stay in my room, and we'll switch."
"Ah?"
"What 'ah'? Do you want a beating?"
The boy dared not ask further, and frightened, he grabbed his clothes and backpack and ran away.
Peng Fei stood by the window and watched for a full half hour before Zhan Jingchun returned.
Her silhouette disappeared again, and Peng Fei became frantic, wishing he could climb out again and follow her.
Until Zhan Jingchun finally reappeared before his eyes after circling the villa multiple times.
He was overjoyed.
She really lived in this room! The nanny followed her into the room and turned on the lights!
The curtains were not drawn, and he could clearly see the layout of her bedroom.
A pure white large bed, pink sheets and duvet, and a drawing easel and many books by the headboard.
She stopped at the foot of the bed, the nanny helped her take off her coat, and she casually grabbed a hair tie to tie up her hair. They spoke a few more words, and the nanny withdrew.
She sat at the dressing table, used a tissue to wipe her face, and after a series of actions, seemed to enter the bathroom.
Peng Fei's heart was filled with immense satisfaction.
He had witnessed Zhan Jingchun's every move, understood her life, and it seemed she belonged to him again. Heaven had been kind to him!
Peng Fei felt so happy he could float.
Standing for a long time made his calves ache, so he pulled over a chair and sat by the bed.
After waiting for more than ten minutes, Zhan Jingchun emerged from the bedroom again.
Wrapped in a loose bathrobe, she sat down at the dressing table again.
He watched as she gradually applied skincare products to her face, then her hands, her legs, and finally her entire body. She then picked up a book and sat at the foot of the bed to read.
He watched her for as long as she read, not feeling bored at all.
Although he couldn't be close to her, such companionship made him feel extremely content.
Time slowly passed, and Zhan Jingchun's alarm rang. It was time for her to sleep.
Although she couldn't sleep, she had to force herself to.
She grabbed the remote control and slowly drew the curtains, then turned off the light with the remote.
Peng Fei knew she was going to sleep. Although he was reluctant, he felt relieved to see her sleep so early and so obediently.
He didn't want to sleep. What a wonderful fate it was to be able to watch over her like this, even the air around them seemed to carry her breath. How could she bear to sleep?
Peng Fei leaned by the window, dozing off and waking, watching the opposite window all night until the curtains were opened again the next day.
Seeing Zhan Jingchun get out of bed and leave the bedroom, presumably to go downstairs for breakfast, he finally stepped away from the window.
