Chapter 148: Removing Makeup in Public
"Since Marilyn has said so, how boring would it be to just sing a song on such a happy day?
"Or let’s have a little contest."
Everyone looked at her at her words.
Yvonne Taylor?
Which one was the famous Yvonne Taylor?
Who’s talking?
Holy shit!
Was that her?!
"Oh my... Do I see wrong?
"Is she really Yvonne Taylor?
"She’s that good looking?"
"She is like my first love!
"This... Who said that Yvonne Taylor was a stupid flirt?"
Marilyn didn’t know that Yvonne was born with a beautiful voice and didn’t expect that she would really take the challenge calmly.
However, she calmed down quickly.
She’s a diva, and she was just being modest by saying that comment earlier.
She was a professional vocalist, while Yvonne was just an ordinary girl who had dropped out of school at 18. How dared she compete with her?
She must be daydreaming.
"Good." Marilyn smiled hypocritically, "How does Miss Taylor want to compete?" It’s just a green tea whore. You think I don’t know how? Bring it on!
Yvonne also smiled innocently, "Now that you are better than me, let me make the rules, okay?"
Marilyn’s face went sullen, knowing she’d taken the bait.
But if she refused at this point, wouldn’t everyone laugh at her for not being able to afford to play?
She braced herself to say, "Go ahead."
"No cheating, Marilyn."
Yvonne reminded her on purpose.
"Well, no cheating."
Yvonne looked innocent today, but her powerful aura of a rich girl hadn’t changed for a moment.
She was still smiling, arm crossed, but her smile was a little sarcastic.
"Since you said I frequent discos and nightclubs, let’s follow the rules of nightclubs.
"How about the one who loses removing makeup in public?"
Yvonne was a plain person anyway, so removing her makeup was no big deal, and she looked beautiful as usual without makeup.
But Marilyn was a star, her makeup and hair were made several hours in advance, and her eyelashes were planted one by one. Asking her to remove her makeup in public was the same as making her lose dignity.
Also, her skin was rough and dark because of staying up late for filming. She still looked good merely because of her good features and makeup.
If she did remove her makeup, her ugly photos would appear on the headlines of all the major press tomorrow.
When that happened, there’s no telling how long she would be mocked.
When Marilyn’s agent heard this, she stood up immediately and scolded.
"Our Marilyn is a super star and she’s different from a plain person like you. No one will scold you even if you remove your makeup, but those people won’t let Marilyn go easily!
"Why do you make such an unreasonable demand in public when you know how important her reputations are?!"
Yvonne sneered, imitating her tone, ’’I am a plain person and I’m different from super stars like you. Even if Marilyn sings like shit today no one will say she’s shit, but everyone will laugh at me for overrating myself!
"Why do you humiliate me in public when you know clearly that I didn’t major in music?"
Yvonne spoke in a calm and innocent manner.
How dared she say that Marilyn sang like shit!
Marilyn’s face could no longer be described as ugly at this point.
The atmosphere was heating up and everyone at the party was speechless.
Only Finn lowered his head and smiled lightly as he took a sip of champagne.
Things were getting interesting.
...
"What’s more, Miss Zellweger has just promised me. She said first that I frequented nightclubs, so if you can’t afford to remove your makeup, we can try taking off our clothes, do you dare?"
Yvonne blinked her big eyes, as if she wanted to crush Marilyn!
Marilyn gritted her teeth.
But she’s an outstanding singer!
She didn’t believe that Yvonne could compete with her.
But she would remember this shame.
"Since Miss Taylor says my singing voice is worthless, please come up and let us all hear what a good voice really is!"
After saying that, Marilyn dropped the microphone and left the stage.
"Hmph!"
The agent grimaced.
The agent could do nothing but let them compete. Moreover, she also heard that Yvonne’s brain got a problem, so let her make a spectacle!
Before stepping off the stage, the agent cursed her in front of everyone, "You’ve no idea who you are dealing with!"
Yvonne passed her and sneered, "Save your energy for tomorrow and explain to the reporters. After all, Miss Zellweger still has so much negative news to make the front page tomorrow."
"You!"
The agent was nearly furious.
Yvonne felt happy in secret.
<Humph!
How dared you seduce my husband!
And drag my husband away in front of me without eating together the breakfast that
made!
still remember those mean words you said on my doorstep this morning! Now you’re going to pay for what you’ve done!>
While thinking to herself, Yvonne took the microphone and stood in the center of the stage.
In this life, she had never showed her voice in front of people.
As a result, no one knew that she possessed a truly heavenly singing voice.
The lights dimmed and the lighting technician gave Yvonne a white light casually, but this helped to create a quieter atmosphere and made the audience focus on her alone.
The faint music rang out, accompanied by Yvonne’s low voice, and instantly resounded through the entire banquet hall.
She had chosen a classic song which was so difficult that few singers could sing it well.
The tune was light at the beginning and even contained a sense of melancholy.
"Many nights we pray...
"With no proof anyone could hear...
"And our hearts a hopeful song...
"We barely understood..."
Yvonne was in a white dress, standing under the light shrouded in blue and white. On the stage, she was slender and beautiful and was not like that rumored nightclub queen at all. Her voice was so penetrating that once she opened her mouth, everyone in the hall listened quietly and became stupefied.
Marilyn was also dumbfounded. She couldn’t believe it was sung by Yvonne at all.
"How is this... possible?"
The agent was also dumbfounded.
Marilyn’s voice was nothing compared to hers!
The audience were dumbfounded too.
"Is this a real live singing?
"It’s so much better than the concerts of those popular singers that I went to!"
After a brief moment of shock, everyone quickly threw their emotions into her voice.
"In this time of fear... When prayer so often proves in vain...
"Hope seems like the summer birds... Too swiftly flown away..."
Yvonne recalled all that had happened in her previous and present life.
Those moments of despair, and the dawn of a new start.
Those dark years, and the joy of recovery.
When she thought of the other world, where she couldn’t be reunited with Zachary and her children, and her parents who were separated from each other, her heart was bleeding and her voice sounded painful.
...
Today was supposed to be a special occasion, and the song Marilyn chose was very ordinary and known to everyone, so it wasn’t that amazing.
Marilyn had only received basic vocal training. She wasn’t so experienced as Yvonne and simply couldn’t sing with much emotion as she did.
And the song Yvonne chose was classic, grand and majestic. It was the theme song of a Disney animation that inspired countless people back in the day.
While its beginning was a little melancholy, there’s an extremely surging high note that followed, which was the hardest part of the song.
Just when everyone thought that Yvonne couldn’t sing the latter half well, her high note sounded like a phoenix singing across the sky.
"Can’t see you way safe through the rain. Thought of a still resilient voice. "Says love is very near. There can be miracles. "When you believe. When you believe. "Though hope is frail. It’s hard to kill."
The young girl with a sense of vulnerability raised the microphone, but her small body seemed to contain infinite energy. And her voice penetrated the air in the hall and reached the hearts of people.
She used her voice to show to everyone her heart, her hope, her stubbornness, as well as the sparkles in her eyes.
Many people were moved to tears.
Finally, after a high note as glorious as fireworks, her voice calmed down gradually and everything returned to normal.
"You will when you believe."
When Yvonne finished, the hall was silent.
There’s no telling how long it took when the whole room erupted in thunderous applause!
"Bravo!"
"Amazing!
"It’s so good!"
A man in a white suit appeared from the crowd.
He was Ralph Cobb, who had just joined a record company. As soon as he heard her voice, he immediately recognized that it was a precious voice that belonged to a diva.
But without looking at anyone, Yvonne said thank you hastily and hurried off the stage.
She was also in a very complex mood after the song.
All those compliments and applause were blocked out from her ears, and now she wanted to cry.
She missed Angela and Daniel so much, and was more worried about Zachary in the other world...
But Marilyn was in a more complex mood than her, who was completely defeated in this contest.
The ones who came today were the rich and famous celebrities of Hiltonan. They liked to invite stars for parties, but despised them deep down.
They were watching the contest just for fun.
Now that Yvonne had won, some playboys came immediately to join the fun. "You lose!
"Miss Zellweger, isn’t it time to remove your makeup?"
"I..." Marilyn was a little embarrassed. How could she show her face without makeup to the public?
"I, I don’t carry any makeup remover with me, maybe next time."
"Miss Zellweger won’t make it today. Please give way, we’ll go back first."
The agent defended her hastily.
"Don’t go."
A rich girl sneered and stepped forward, "I have makeup remover wipes, they’re handy. Just wipe them off."
"Miss Zellweger is a bit unwell today and didn’t sing well..." The agent continued explaining.
"Didn’t sing well?"
The woman laughed, "I think that’s her normal level, right?
"What? You’re still trying to cheat after losing to a plain girl?
"A diva has such low quality?
"Or in fact, you look so ugly without makeup that you daren’t show it to us at all!" "Hahahaha..." The crowd burst into laughter again.
Only this time, the person that they laughed at was Marilyn.
Marilyn was embarrassed, and turned her pleading eyes to Zachary.
"Mr. Leinster..."
