Chapter 649: Chapter 350: Jane Quinlan’s Car Accident
Kay Forrest left the police station, ready to head back to the company to meet Jane Quinlan when his phone rang. Seeing that it was Annie calling, he immediately answered: "Hello."
"Director Forrest," Annie’s voice was sorrowful: "I have a report for you, Wendy... passed away 15 minutes ago."
Kay Forrest frowned, turning his head to look towards the police station, a stern look in his eyes.
Had he underestimated this woman? Scholars are not necessarily virtuous people, and this saying really holds true.
"I understand. Handle the following matters well, try to fulfill the requests of Wendy’s parents as much as possible.
Try to smooth over the sorrow of parents who have outlived their child."
"Director Forrest, I had a good relationship with Wendy, don’t worry, I will handle everything well," Annie said, beginning to cry, she might be ambitious, but she still had humanity.
After hanging up the phone, Kay Forrest immediately dialed Jane Quinlan’s number.
Jane Quinlan, having finished dinner at Greyson’s place, wasn’t in a rush to go back; she stayed to chat with him.
Seeing a call from Forrest, she cheerfully said in front of Greyson, "It’s Forrest, Uncle, hang on a moment, I’ll take this."
"Go ahead."
Jane Quinlan picked up the phone, "Forrest."
"Are you at the company?"
"No, I’m with my uncle. We just finished dinner and are chatting.
How is everything on your end, is Wendy alright?"
Forrest grunted, "I’m calling to tell you, Wendy just passed away."
Jane Quinlan fell silent for a moment before turning to Greyson with a frown: "Passed away?"
"When she was found, she was at the bottom of a cliff.
Though the firefighters got her out of the car and rushed her to the hospital, it was already somewhat late.
The craniotomy didn’t go smoothly, so this outcome isn’t unforeseen."
Jane Quinlan nodded: "Okay, I understand."
Despite trying to remain composed, she was quite distressed; after all, they had known each other and even tormented one another in the past...
"I’ll come to pick you up."
Jane Quinlan shook her head: "No need, I drove here myself; I am heading back to the company now, I’ll speak a few more words with my uncle before I leave."
"Can you handle being alone?"
"Yes, don’t worry."
"Okay, I’ll wait for you at the company."
After hanging up, Jane Quinlan looked at Greyson, who asked, "Wendy passed away?"
Jane Quinlan nodded: "Yes."
"It’s fate, no one can change that.
Go back and tell Kay Forrest to take good care of the deceased’s family.
She is still our employee at the Skyward Group.
We must take on as much responsibility as we can.
This is also the greatest respect we can offer to the deceased."
"Okay, Uncle, Forrest is back at the company, so I will head back too.
I’ll come to visit you later."
"Go ahead, drive slowly when you are alone on the road."
"Okay," Jane Quinlan stood up, picked up her bag, and left, with the maid escorting her to the door and watching her drive away.
After the maid returned inside, a red sedan slowly followed from behind.
Jane Quinlan hadn’t driven far when her phone rang again; she pulled over and took out her phone.
Thinking it was still Kay calling, she was surprised to see it was her father.
She picked up the phone: "Hello, Dad, are you missing me?"
"Yes, missing my darling daughter, how have you been these days?"
"I am fine, you don’t have to worry, Forrest is taking great care of me."
Her father sighed: "It looks like we can’t even pass three sentences without mentioning Forrest.
I, as your father, am really feeling a bit jealous."
Jane Quinlan laughed: "Then, should I mix some soy sauce for you to drown out your jealousy, and not let it spoil your old teeth?"
"The cheeky girl, have the morning sicknesses been that bad these days?"
Hearing her father’s caring voice and thinking about Wendy’s parents who were now mourning beside their daughter’s cold body, Jane Quinlan couldn’t help feeling sad.
"Dad..."
"What is it?"
"Ever since I graduated from university, I haven’t really taken good care of you and mom.
The two of you are always lonely at home; I really haven’t been a competent daughter."
Hearing her say this, her father’s brows furrowed: "What are you talking about.
Can parents rely on their children to grow up and do nothing, spending all their days with them?
Your mom and I, just like all other parents, we just want you to be well.
If you are well, even if you can’t visit us often, we will be happy.
You are now with Kay Forrest, and I think that’s good.
This young man is very considerate towards you, and your mom and I are reassured.
The only thing we’re worried about now is your morning sickness during this pregnancy.
You are already thin, if you get any thinner, will those legs still carry you?
Jane Quinlan chuckled: "How could they not carry me, my legs are fatter than those models’."
"Are you a model? Too ugly to compare with other models."
Jane Quinlan rolled her eyes speechlessly, really, is he my real dad?
"Dad, be honest, did you call today to care about me, or to make fun of me?
I am your daughter, my ugliness is your responsibility, who let you and mom be unattractive?"
Dad Quinlan chuckled mischievously: "Actually, I look alright, it’s your mom who’s unattractive, and I foolishly got pursued by her back then."
Jane Quinlan laughed out loud, now she understood, her dad was here to joke today.
"Alright, dad, my car is parked on the roadside, I’ve got to go."
"You’re driving yourself? Where’s Kay?" Dad Quinlan became worried upon hearing this.
"Kay went on a business trip to Toochow this morning.
I had lunch with my future father-in-law at noon, and now I’m just heading back to the office."
She decided not to tell her dad about the office situation to avoid worrying him.
"I thought so. If Forrest were here, he wouldn’t let you drive.
You’re not even three months pregnant yet; you need to avoid going out too much.
Try to drive less, you must protect yourself when it’s necessary.
Don’t think it’s useless nagging from dad.
All of this is for your own good."
"Okay, okay, I get it, my dear dad.
Don’t worry, I’m fine, eating heartily, becoming a big fatty."
Dad Quinlan chuckled, this girl, she must find him annoying now.
Just as she finished speaking, an incoming call alert appeared on her phone, she glanced it was from Kay, and quickly told her dad: "Dad, got to go, Kay’s calling."
"Alright, then you drive slowly back to the office, I’ll hang up, call me if anything."
He hung up the phone, and Jane Quinlan answered Kay’s call: "Hello, I’m already on the road."
"Really? I just wanted to tell you I’ve reached the office, just come back early."
"Got it, later."
After hanging up, she got her car back onto the main road.
After driving for not even two hundred meters, she happened to stop at a red light, slowly stopping the car waiting for it to turn green.
In the red car that had been following her erratically, Evie Larkin gripped the steering wheel tightly.
Thinking back to the night Kay forcibly made her leave Eldoria, hatred welled up in her heart.
All because of Jane Quinlan, if Jane Quinlan were no longer here...
She took a breath, floored the gas pedal, and crashed into Jane Quinlan’s car with a frenzy.
Jane Quinlan’s car was shoved onto the pedestrian crosswalk, hitting two pedestrians, and she herself was thrust forward by inertia...
In that moment, she instinctively covered her stomach, screaming in her heart, "God, please protect my child, please keep my child safe, I am willing to pay any price."
It was half past two, Kay Forrest was becoming restless in the office, wondering why Jane hadn’t returned yet.
She just said she was on her way but by this time, she should have arrived even if she started from the old house.
This woman, she’s just never easy to deal with.
He was just about to call Jane again when his phone suddenly rang.
He grunted and answered the phone with a serious tone.
"Silly girl, didn’t you say you’d be right back?
What time is it now, you could have built a new car and driven it back by now."
"Sorry, are you the spouse of the phone’s owner?" a strange woman’s voice came from the other end of the phone.
"Who are you?" Kay became alert, wondering why Jane would hand her phone to a stranger.
"Hello, this is Anchester Third Hospital, I’m a nurse from the emergency department, the owner of the phone was just involved in a traffic accident, can you come to the hospital now?"
Traffic accident.
When Kay heard these four words, his brain seemed to explode with a buzz.
He abruptly stood up, his steps a bit frantic as he ran to the office door, his voice almost trembling: "I’m coming now, I’ll be right there."
