Mu Chen handed her the deeds to the two houses, and she then assigned tasks.
Mu Chen would manage the tavern, and he was to find suitable staff. The profits from the tavern would be split equally between her and Mu Chen.
As for the clinic, she and Wanwan could handle it, with Liu Xing and Jing Yun assisting.
Now, they just needed to find some reputable doctors. She wouldn't be the primary physician here; rather, she would only step in when others were unable to help.
Wanwan and Mu Chen were deeply moved by all of this.
Their lives had undergone such a tremendous transformation because of their mistress. Therefore, from this day forward, they would follow her and serve her with all their hearts.
"Mu Chen, if you need anything, have Liu Xing or Jing Yun inform me. Don't run around unnecessarily, attracting attention and causing trouble. Also, keep an eye out for useful information."
"Yes," Mu Chen replied, bowing his head.
Through the recent period of adjustment, much of the childishness had faded from him. He had become more mature and composed. With his handsome features, he would grow into an elegant man.
"Alright, everyone to your tasks. You go manage the tavern, Wanwan, you focus on the clinic. First, find people to clean up the shop and prepare what's needed." xxs1
"Yes."
In the days that followed, everyone became busy. Yun Xiao and Wanwan were responsible for the clinic, while Mu Chen and Liu Xing handled the tavern.
Initially, Liu Xing was reluctant to leave his mistress's side, but Yun Xiao had given the order, and he had to obey. Furthermore, since his mistress was staying at the clinic on Fengxiang Street and not going out, there shouldn't be any major issues.
The establishment on Fengxiang Street was spacious. One half was lined with shelves of Chinese herbs, and the other half had several tables for doctors to examine patients. Towards the back was an area for drying herbs and for developing various medications.
On either side were several rooms, including storage and quarters for the staff. Winding corridors led to a separate, small courtyard at the very back. This courtyard was self-contained, with a small open space in front where Yun Xiao planned to plant some medicinal herbs.
The building had been completely renovated, with pristine white walls and simple, elegant furniture. The second floor housed the rooms for Yun Xiao and Wanwan; Yun Xiao's room was in the front, and Wanwan's was at the back.
The open windows allowed the gentle breeze to flow in, making the louvered curtains sway gracefully. Standing by the window, they could see everything happening in the shop, which was quite convenient. Yun Xiao smiled with satisfaction.
Inside the rooms, there was a newly carved bed, a round table covered with brocade, two chairs, and a dressing table and wardrobe, all arranged in different corners of the room, exuding elegance and refinement.
A celadon vase with white floral patterns sat on the table, holding several freshly bloomed flowers that exuded a delicate fragrance.
"This is so comfortable," Yun Xiao sighed contentedly, lying on the bed. She smiled as sweetly as if she had eaten honey, breathing in the faint scent of incense from the bedding. This was a place she had built with her own hands, her true haven.
Wanwan watched her, smiling occasionally.
Everything was ready at the clinic, except for the staff, doctors, and medicinal ingredients.
The staff had to be knowledgeable about various herbs, and the doctors must be skilled in healing. There was no room for error.
If they hired incompetent individuals who misidentified herbs or used the wrong needles, it would be detrimental to people's health. Therefore, Yun Xiao decided to personally oversee the selection process.
As for the medicinal ingredients, she had already inquired and learned that the pharmacies in Yan Jing obtained their supplies via waterways from Xiao Hanshan.
She had entrusted this task to Liu Xing, to contact the suppliers and arrange for the delivery. She trusted Liu Xing's capabilities; he was steady, reserved, and vigilant.
Not long after the recruitment notice was posted, a crowd gathered in front of the establishment. Naturally, most were onlookers, with few actually signing up.
However, there were still applicants. People gradually came in and registered with Wanwan. It was unclear if it was due to Wanwan's beauty, the sheer number of people in need of work, or the enticing advertising slogan Yun Xiao had used.
Her slogan stated: "If you believe in yourself, please name your desired price."
This meant that the salary was determined by each individual. They could state the price they believed they were worth, and as long as it was reasonable, it would be accepted.
This initiative attracted the attention of several major medical halls in the vicinity. People were sent daily to observe the situation and report back to their masters.
For the time being, everyone remained inactive, waiting to see this new clinic fail. After all, to establish a foothold in a place like Yan Jing, one needed strong connections.
It was evident that these newcomers lacked such connections, raising the question of whether they could even survive here.
After three days, twenty staff members and thirty doctors had applied.
Since this clinic was just starting, Yun Xiao didn't intend to hire many people, only three staff members and three doctors. However, seeing so many applicants, she was quite pleased.
She believed that among so many people, there were bound to be some who were truly capable, and it was up to her to identify them.
The interviews were conducted in the courtyard. On a wide, green, and shady open space, a wooden table was set up. A person sat behind the table, a smile gracing their face, but their eyes were sharp, with a fleeting coldness.
Wanwan stood smiling before the crowd and introduced Yun Xiao.
"This is my young master, Leng Yue, the chief physician of this clinic. All matters are under her purview."
"Young Master Leng."
The people standing below called out in unison. However, they were surprised by this "Leng Yue."
He was remarkably handsome, with features as exquisite as a meticulously drawn sketch, sculpted and defined. His skin was as fair as snow, and his eyes were like painted portraits. Sitting quietly in the light, he resembled a natural sculpture, leaving people momentarily stunned. It took a while for them to realize with bewilderment that Young Master Leng was so young yet already a physician.
They wondered about his medical skills, but they were here for the job, and as long as they could earn a living, his appearance was secondary.
First, the interviews for the staff commenced. The applicants came forward one by one. Yun Xiao smiled innocently and harmlessly, making it difficult for anyone to perceive her capabilities.
Because of her casual demeanor, the staff members grew bolder, their eyes scanning her up and down and from side to side. Many kept staring at Wanwan.
Yun Xiao subtly dismissed those individuals. It was clear that these people were there for Wanwan and might not possess genuine skills.
"You, you, you..."
Yun Xiao pointed at each of them, selecting those who had been looking around inappropriately earlier.
"Alright, you may leave."
"What? What do you mean? We haven't even started, why are you making us leave? We're not going."
It turned out that it was easier to invite a god than to send one away. These people, seeing Yun Xiao and Wanwan's seemingly easy-to-bully appearance, started acting shamelessly. Wanwan walked over with a smile and beckoned to one of the staff members, signaling him to approach.
As he came closer, she kicked him, followed immediately by a slap. Still not appeased, she lunged forward and began to punch and kick him until she felt satisfied. Then, she clapped her hands, appearing as if nothing had happened, and asked with a smile.
"Does everyone want a turn?"
No one had ever imagined that this seemingly beautiful woman could be a rose with thorns, fierce and cruel. At this point, who would dare to say another word? They quickly scurried out.
