Chapter 65 The Black Cat

Xuan Mohan’s deep, dark eyes stared intently at the pale, bloodless face on the bed, not daring to blink for a second.

Lu Haoran narrowed his eyes slightly. "Xuan, you were upstairs at the time. Did you notice anything unusual?"

Xia Han, feeling worried and anxious, also looked towards Mu Jingxuan upon hearing this. Yes, how could this have happened so suddenly? If it had happened outside, it would be one thing, but for something like this to occur in Mu Jingxuan’s apartment was rather inexplicable, wasn’t it? There wasn’t even a direction to begin thinking about it.

They all assumed Mu Jingxuan would know something; even Xuan Mohan was waiting for his answer.

However, Mu Jingxuan simply shook his head, his face also carrying a trace of solemnity. "I was in the next room getting something. As soon as I heard her scream, I rushed over, but she was alone."

Although he was briefly distracted when Lan Qianqian hugged him, he quickly looked around the room. There were no signs of anything amiss, so they would have to wait for Lan Qianqian to wake up to find anything out.

Xia Han couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed. This unknown element was too unsettling.

"Mmm~" Just then, Lan Qianqian slowly opened her eyes.

"Qianqian, you're awake." Everyone looked at her with surprise and joy.

Had she fainted just now? Yes, she had fainted because she saw...

Recalling that scene, Lan Qianqian, disregarding the presence of so many people, suddenly sat up and lunged into Xuan Mohan’s arms, her pupils still trembling.

Xuan Mohan felt the little girl’s body trembling. He wrapped his arms around her, gently patting her back. "Don't be afraid, I'm here."

"Qianqian, what exactly happened?" Xia Han was extremely anxious.

As soon as she finished asking, Lan Qianqian abruptly shook her head, her voice laced with a plea, "Xuan Mohan, can you take me back?"

She didn't want to stay here anymore; the familiar environment only made her scared.

Upon hearing this, Xuan Mohan didn't ask any more questions, merely saying softly and dotingly into her ear, "Okay, I'll take you home."

With that, he gently scooped her up.

The word "home" sent a tremor through Lan Qianqian's heart, but she still buried herself in Xuan Mohan’s chest, not emerging. Smelling the reassuring scent, she didn't feel quite so scared.

Only after Xuan Mohan carried Lan Qianqian away did Xia Han frown and mutter to herself, "What on earth happened? It's so distressing!"

"Hey, Lu Haoran, what are you doing?" She was still thinking when he pulled her.

"Don't you want to know what happened? Come on, let's go to the monitoring room."

Mu Jingxuan had the same idea. Places where they lived were generally monitored from all angles with no blind spots.

However, regrettably, when they reached the monitoring room, they saw nothing. At least, they saw no one entering or exiting. The only area that was concealed was a corner on the second floor, but the space was too small.

Looking at the surveillance footage, Mu Jingxuan fell into thought...

Suddenly recalling something, he immediately strode to the laboratory on the second floor. Upon entering, he went straight to the location of the bottle of medicine. An ordinary porcelain bottle lay there quietly.

After pondering for two seconds, he reached out with his well-defined hand, picked it up, opened the stopper, and fanned it lightly. Yes, it was this medicine...

"What's wrong, Xuan? Did you find something?" They thought Xuan had thought of something and followed him. Seeing him thinking, they hadn't interrupted him.

Mu Jingxuan still just shook his head. Everything seemed normal tonight, yet it felt subtly eerie. It seemed the apartment would need to strengthen its security...

With no leads, Lu Haoran and Xia Han decided to leave and check again tomorrow. Of course, Lu Haoran drove Xia Han home; he didn't want any more incidents to occur.

...

Xuan Mohan took Lan Qianqian back to his villa in Repulse Bay. She hadn't let go of him the entire way, with Li An acting as the driver.

It was past nine o'clock, and the children had already gone to bed as they had school. Only Aunt Wang saw the car lights shining in and quickly scrambled out of her covers.

She was thinking about whether to remind the young master that the children had been brought back, but the young master still hadn't returned. That wouldn't do; in the long run, the children would grow distant from their father.

As she was thinking this, she saw the young master walk in lightly. When had the young master ever walked so gently? And was she imagining things, or was she dreaming? In the young master's arms… was he holding a woman???

Aunt Wang stood there, her eyes wide and her mouth agape, her gaze following the young master’s steps. She didn't snap out of it even after the young master disappeared. What had she come out for? Forget it, she was probably still dreaming, which was why her memory was so hazy. She should go back to sleep...

After carrying Lan Qianqian into his room, Xuan Mohan gently placed her on the bed and said softly, "Do you want to take a bath? I'll draw you a bath, hmm?"

As he took a step away, he was stopped by Lan Qianqian’s soft, boneless hand. Her eyes, like a startled deer, looked at him anxiously. "Don't go… can you… stay and keep me company tonight?"

He rarely refused Lan Qianqian’s requests, especially to accompany her. So, he went forward and gently embraced her as they lay on the bed, patting her back like he was soothing a child. "Sleep, I'm here, I'm not leaving."

Slowly, Lan Qianqian gradually relaxed her body and soon drifted off to sleep…

Xuan Mohan watched her peaceful, beautiful face, then leaned down and gently kissed her forehead with affection, before hugging her and closing his eyes as well.

In her dreams, Lan Qianqian was restless. She kept running, she was so tired, but she dared not stop.

"Ah!"

She fell. Her knees hurt, and her hands hurt so much! Where were Mommy and Daddy? "Waaah waah waah~" She was so scared.

But upon hearing movement behind her, the little one immediately got up again, wiping her tears haphazardly. However, the more she wiped, the more tears flowed, mixing with blood and smearing her face, her vision gradually blurring…

After an unknown amount of time, and having run an unknown distance, a blinding bright light flashed, followed by a "bang~"

"Young master, we hit a little girl ahead. She seems to have fainted." After getting out of the car, the driver respectfully reported to the little boy in the back seat.

The little boy froze for a moment, then stepped out of the car with his short legs and crouched down, looking at the tiny figure as beautiful as a porcelain doll. Although a bit dirty, her delicate and cute features were still evident. She looked like she had been raised with wealth.

Judging by her clothing and accessories – a fluffy pink princess dress, crystal shoes, and wavy hair – she lay there so quietly, yet she was even more beautiful than any doll he had ever seen.

The boy was momentarily lost in thought. As he came to his senses, he lowered his head, picked up the little girl, and stated calmly and quickly, "Take her to the hospital."

When the boy looked up, his features were exquisite, as if carved, his skin fair, like a little prince from a painting…

The scene shifted. In the darkness, streetlights cast a faint glow. By the roadside, a fat cat, shiny black all over, crouched beside someone. Seen from behind, it was plump, its tail swaying back and forth, looking very cute.

Sensing someone approaching, the cat slowly turned its head. Its pair of scarlet eyes were sharp and vicious, staring at the approaching person like a viper. Its mouth slowly curved upwards, revealing sharp fangs, with blood dripping from the corners of its mouth…
