Chapter 301 The Yangtze Dragon King Appears

After Shen Feng and his people entered the Jingxiang area, he led the soldiers to carry out disaster relief. Everyone rowed small boats to rescue people, transferring them to high mountains, and distributing tents and food to allow these people to survive temporarily.

Countless people were trapped in their homes, forced to climb onto their rooftops. Raging floods surrounded them. Once they fell into the water, they would be immediately submerged, swept away before they could even speak. The currents in the water were treacherous; even skilled swimmers could not freely navigate the floodwaters. If caught by an undertow, escape would be impossible.

Some people sat on their rooftops, saying that at least they had a place to stand. However, some were trapped in trees, clinging tightly to the trunks, afraid to let go. Gradually, their fingers stiffened, making movement impossible. Their tears had long since dried, and they could only stare into the distance, hoping someone would come to rescue them.

The torrential floods were terrifying enough. Countless houses were swept away, and the muddy yellow water surged in all directions. Amidst this chaos, some fish mutated and attacked creatures on the shore. These fish had long teeth, no longer herbivorous but carnivorous.

Even mutated beasts, if they fell into the water and encountered these man-eating fish, would be reduced to bare bones within a minute.

Shen Feng's group also encountered the man-eating fish. Countless of them leaped out of the water, lunging at the people in the small boats, their ferocity extreme.

Shen Feng instantly unleashed "Furious Wind," and countless wind blades emerged from his body, killing all the man-eating fish. Even with only their heads remaining, the man-eating fish continued to snap their jaws, refusing to let go of anything they bit.

The trapped people in the floodwaters feared these fish the most, as many had been eaten after falling into the water. If a jumping fish happened to bite them, they would lose a piece of flesh.

Shen Feng and his team continued to rescue disaster victims, and his title "Wind God" spread far and wide. Wherever he went, countless people would come forward to pay homage. Shen Feng couldn't stop them and could only wear a mask when traveling to avoid being recognized.

Just as Shen Feng was continuously rescuing disaster victims, uninvited guests arrived.

That night, Shen Feng and his companions were making porridge on the mountain. They added fish and wild vegetables to the porridge, not caring about the taste as long as it provided nourishment. Making porridge in the heavy rain was not easy; they had to set up a waterproof shelter and use solid fuel to start the fire. Ordinary people could only hide in tents to avoid the rain, hoping the flood would pass soon.

At Shen Feng's level, a fifth-tier ability user, his daily energy consumption was substantial. The energy obtained from porridge was very little. Shen Feng had to eat more than ten bowls to feel somewhat full. Overwhelmed by hunger, Shen Feng could only pop an evolution base fruit jelly into his mouth. It contained ample energy and could alleviate his hunger.

Raindrops pattered against the shelter with a "pitter-patter" sound. As of now, the typhoon showed no signs of leaving, and the rain continued to fall day and night.

While the floods brought disaster to humans, they were equally devastating to zombies. Zombies had no means of coping in the floodwaters, and tens of millions of them drowned, benefiting the fish and shrimp in the water.

The fish and shrimp began to mutate in large numbers. After eating humans, they would find places to lay eggs. Within a month, their numbers exploded. Schistosomes also took advantage of the situation, infesting many major rivers in the south. Once inside a host, they would begin to absorb nutrients. After tormenting humans and animals, they would break through the skin and escape.

Shen Feng had seen enough of the disaster victims' plight. Countless families were torn apart. They had already suffered the horrors of zombies, and surviving was difficult enough. Yet, even then, heaven did not spare them, forcing them into a corner until they had nothing left.

"City Lord, a small boat is approaching us from the floodwaters. It seems to be looking for us," a vigilant soldier suddenly shouted at Shen Feng.

Upon hearing this, Shen Feng quickly looked in the direction the soldier pointed. In the darkness, a light was approaching the mountain. The light flickered in the floodwaters, causing anxiety, as if the flood might submerge the small boat.

However, in the end, the small boat safely landed. Several people disembarked, one of whom was an acquaintance of Shen Feng.

Ke Yiming, dressed entirely in a raincoat, walked towards Shen Feng, his expression not looking good.

"Hey, Shen Feng, the trouble you caused has arrived! Now you need to clean up your mess!" Ke Yiming shouted from a distance.

Shen Feng's soldiers wanted to stop Ke Yiming, telling the arrogant fellow to get lost. He clearly came to cause trouble, so why let him get close?

However, Shen Feng stopped his subordinates and quickly asked, "What are you doing here? Instead of rescuing disaster victims, you've come to find me for trouble."

Ke Yiming walked into the shelter and said to Shen Feng impatiently, "I started disaster relief a month ago, much earlier than you. Are you trying to guilt-trip me? I'm here to settle accounts with you."

Shen Feng asked in confusion, "Settle accounts? What accounts? I haven't offended you, have I?"

"You haven't offended me, but you've offended everyone in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. From this perspective, you can be considered a sinner for all eternity!" Ke Yiming said righteously.

Shen Feng sighed helplessly, too lazy to bother with Ke Yiming.

In Shen Feng's opinion, he had no grievances with Ke Yiming, yet he started by making baseless accusations. This was truly problematic.

Ke Yiming asked, "Do you know about the Yangtze River Dragon King?"

Shen Feng nodded and replied, "I've heard of it! It's said to be a behemoth that constantly appears in the Yangtze River, eating people everywhere. What about it? Do you think I'm raising this ferocious beast? You need common sense when you're slandering others!"

Ke Yiming did not answer. He took out several photos from his person and handed them to Shen Feng to look at. These photos were evidence of the Yangtze River Dragon King.

Shen Feng took them and saw that the photos showed behemoths, mostly hidden in the water, with only dark shapes visible. However, one photo taken at night was clearer, showing the monster's long head with an extended snout, numerous fangs, and an eye that glowed green in the darkness, looking very terrifying.

Shen Feng looked for a long time, returned the photos, and said, "It has nothing to do with me. I don't know anything!"

Ke Yiming sneered, "Stop pretending. Look closely at the monster's eye, and you'll remember!"

Shen Feng looked again and discovered something unusual. The monster only had one eye; the other seemed to be blind.

"So it's a one-eyed dragon. How funny. The dignified Yangtze River Dragon King is actually a one-eyed dragon," Shen Feng said with a laugh.

Ke Yiming chuckled, "Yes, it's such a coincidence. It's exactly the same as the Crocodile King you chased last year, and the species is also the same. There are no such coincidences in this world!"

Upon hearing this, Shen Feng's smile vanished. He remembered that last year, to delay his trip to Yanjing for battle, he had used the excuse of chasing a mutated crocodile. He recalled that Shen Feng had used a Barrett rifle to shoot out one of the mutated Crocodile King's eyes. The Crocodile King immediately fled into the mountains. At the time, Shen Feng thought the crocodile would hibernate, and since he was captured by Ke Yiming in Yuzhou, he had to abandon the pursuit of the Crocodile King. However, now, Ke Yiming was the first to bring this up, and Shen Feng had a bad premonition.

"Could it be that the Yangtze River Dragon King is the Crocodile King I let go?" Shen Feng quickly asked.

Ke Yiming nodded and said seriously, "That's right!"

At this moment, Ke Yiming slowly said, "According to statistics, this Crocodile King you let go has already eaten thousands of people. How do you intend to take responsibility for this? Don't tell me it's not your fault. We both know the truth of this matter!"

Shen Feng spread his hands helplessly and said, "It's useless to say these things now. If we keep dwelling on the past, we'll fall into endless regret. So, let's talk about this after the floodwaters recede. What do you think?"

Ke Yiming stepped forward, grabbed Shen Feng's shoulder, and said seriously, "I can't wait. Come with me immediately to kill the Dragon King. Now the Dragon King is coming upstream to Xiangnan, eating people during the flood. It's not too late to mend the fences. So, hurry up and get ready to go with me."

Ke Yiming finally revealed his true intention, which was to take Shen Feng to kill the Yangtze River Dragon King.

Shen Feng frowned and said, "Is it absolutely necessary for me to do this? I still need to rescue people. You can go yourselves. You're not incapable of killing it. If you find it, just open fire. What kind of monster can withstand that?"

However, Ke Yiming said seriously, "No, the Dragon King is highly intelligent. Once it detects a ship on the water, it hides and doesn't engage us head-on! Even if it spots an aircraft in the sky, it will quickly conceal itself. Large-scale operations cannot kill the Dragon King."

"Then can't you send in an elite force?" Shen Feng continued to ask.

Ke Yiming shrugged and said, "That's why I've come to find you. Do you think we don't want to engage in small-scale combat? But without enough personnel, I, as one ability user, am not enough. So, it's reasonable for me to ask for your help, isn't it?"

Shen Feng understood. It turned out Ke Yiming was here to ask for reinforcements. He had thought he was here to cause trouble, but now it seemed he was just requesting Shen Feng to kill the Crocodile King!

"Do you really need to find me? The Ability Administration is full of talented people. Ask them for support! If that doesn't work, there's also the Chosen Bureau. They might be able to support you!" Shen Feng asked, confused. He didn't understand why Ke Yiming's group had so few ability users.

In Shen Feng's view, the headquarters had at least seventy ability users, with at least half of them capable of fighting on the battlefield. Yet, at this moment, Ke Yiming was coming to him for battle instead of requesting support from headquarters, which was very strange.

Ke Yiming said in a low voice, "Let's talk privately! This matter is highly confidential and cannot be revealed casually!"

Shen Feng was displeased. He held up his umbrella and walked out into the rain to listen to Ke Yiming's explanation.

It turned out that after the Ability Administration achieved great success in Yanjing, the headquarters highly valued them and dispatched a large number of ability users to participate in special missions in other regions, especially in the north. With the natural gas supply from the Russians cut off, Yanjing sent many ability users to investigate the situation and ensure the natural gas pipelines were opened.

This was also due to the Ability Administration's competence. Whenever important matters arose, the headquarters would first think of the Ability Administration and send them out on missions. Currently, the headquarters valued the Chosen Bureau.

"I was selected from the civilian population by the Ability Administration. I can't possibly ask a bunch of spoiled brats for help! Regardless of their combat effectiveness, the key is that I absolutely cannot bow my head to them!" Ke Yiming said seriously.

"So you came to find me?" Shen Feng asked.

Ke Yiming nodded and said seriously, "I know you are very strong. I heard about you from Xiao Sheng. Whether on land or in the sky, you can exert powerful combat strength. So, come with me to kill that monster!"

"But this is a battle against something in the water, and I'm not very good at it. You should find an ability user with water-element abilities to fight," Shen Feng said helplessly.

If it were a battle on land or in the sky, Shen Feng would naturally not care too much. However, fighting an opponent in the water was not something that could be easily dealt with!

"It's okay. I'm also a fire-element ability user. It's been raining all the time, and I'm still going to hunt the Dragon King. Let's go and make amends for your mistake!" Ke Yiming said quickly.

Shen Feng nodded, agreeing to Ke Yiming's request. Since it was the Crocodile King he had accidentally let go that had become a monster, it was better for him to handle it personally.
