Ban Shi Wu Gui

Chapter 444 A Misunderstanding

Shen Feng never felt fear when facing gunfire head-on, but a knife from behind often sent shivers down his spine. The enemy in front was not always the most terrifying; the one with a knife behind your back, once they made their move, could inflict more damage than ten enemies.

"Li Gui betrayed us and took a cart of grain. I'm going to hunt him down. You all wait here for my good news!" Shen Feng declared decisively.

As he was about to leave, Yue Hengyi blocked his path. "Brother Feng, you're too angry right now. Don't be impulsive. Our most important objective isn't to kill a traitor, but to find the radio as quickly as possible. It's just one cart of grain we lost, it's fine, we still have some on our vehicle."

"You don't understand. This isn't about grain anymore, it's about principles. I despise people who betray me!" Shen Feng gritted his teeth. With that, he prepared to pursue. At his current speed, running across the grassland, no vehicle could outrun him.

"But there are no markers on the grassland now, how will you chase him? And what happens when you catch up? Won't you waste a day? We need to find the radio. Brother Feng, please bear with it. Next time we see Li Gui, I'll help you get revenge, okay?" Yue Hengyi quickly persuaded Shen Feng.

Yue Hengyi also didn't want Shen Feng to be delayed by trivial matters. It was just one ungrateful fellow who ran off, not worth wasting his time over such a petty traitor. The loss of a cart of grain was nothing if he could put his pride aside.

Shen Feng took a deep breath. Although he resented the traitor, he had to put the matter aside for now to re-establish contact with the homeland as soon as possible.

Shen Feng thought to himself, "Endure for a moment, and peace will last a lifetime. Take a step back, and the world opens up! I absolutely cannot let this matter cloud my judgment."

"Alright, I'll listen to you this time. We'll find the radio first. Next time we see Li Gui, he dies!" Shen Feng said coldly.

Yue Hengyi hadn't expected Shen Feng to hate traitors so much that he almost jeopardized their original plan over such a scoundrel.

If Yue Hengyi knew how Shen Feng dealt with Ren Jing, he would have been even more astonished. After capturing Ren Jing, Shen Feng bled him daily without granting him a quick death. Since Ren Jing was an evolver with rapid recovery, the daily bloodletting wouldn't kill him, but he had to endure immense pain all day.

Shen Feng brought Slotke along in the vehicle, and the three continued towards Fremantle. This place led to various regions like Cape Town, the Gulf of Aden, and Jakarta. With the presence of a port, the population was relatively large, and thus, survivor bases would also be more numerous.

A day later, Shen Feng arrived near the port city and discovered it was overrun by a large number of zombies, at least three hundred thousand. Even Shen Feng and Yue Hengyi couldn't simply charge in. A horde of three hundred thousand zombies required an army to deal with; individual strength was insignificant against such a tide.

"Brother Feng, this city hasn't been reclaimed yet. Did we come to the wrong place? How about Perth?" Yue Hengyi suggested.

Shen Feng observed the outskirts carefully but didn't agree.

Suddenly, Shen Feng spotted a cluster of buildings on a distant mountain with his binoculars. He wouldn't have paid much attention if it were just buildings, as wealthy people often had villas or even manors outside the city, making structures on mountains quite normal. However, Shen Feng also noticed a wall on the mountainside.

The wall was new, clearly built not long ago, without even a layer of plaster. The bricks and stones were exposed to the air but showed no signs of lichen or moss. A small path led directly to the summit. Looking around, one side faced the sea, while the other was a sheer cliff. The only way up the mountain was via the path.

"Look, isn't this place easy to defend and hard to attack?" Shen Feng pointed to the mountain and asked Yue Hengyi and Slotke.

Yue Hengyi glanced at it and nodded in agreement. "That's true. Do you think there are people on this mountain?"

"Exactly. This mountain is too treacherous. If I were looking for a base around the city, this would be my first choice. What I can see, others must be able to see as well, so there must be people on this mountain!" Shen Feng analyzed calmly.

Yue Hengyi agreed with Shen Feng's decision but thought of other issues. "Brother Feng, we don't have a translator now. If we find a base, how will we communicate if there's a language barrier?"

"Communication? Do we need to worry about that? As long as we find a base, there will be a way. I don't believe that out of hundreds of people, we can't find someone who understands Chinese!" Shen Feng wasn't concerned about the translation issue. Although their English wasn't great, China's strength was immense, and other countries had learned Chinese to do business with them. Therefore, Shen Feng believed that as long as they found enough people, they could always find a translator.

As he spoke, Shen Feng glanced at the old man beside him. This old man, at least, was a meteorologist, and could serve as a mascot at the base, and even help with some communication at crucial moments.

The three then drove towards the buildings on the mountain. As they got closer, Shen Feng saw surveillance cameras along the roadside. The cameras' lenses were still moving, indicating someone was operating them.

"Someone's spying on us!" Shen Feng whispered to Yue Hengyi.

Yue Hengyi also noticed the cameras on both sides, which proved there were indeed people on the mountain, otherwise, there wouldn't be a continuous power supply in the apocalypse.

A narrow path led directly to the summit. The path was very narrow, and although there were steps, it could only accommodate two people walking side-by-side. There was no road for vehicles to go up, but the path ended at a wall and a large iron gate.

"You two wait here. I'll go up and communicate with them to avoid friendly fire!" Shen Feng said after getting out of the car.

Yue Hengyi leaned back in the passenger seat. "You be careful. If you need support, shout for me!"

Shen Feng didn't waste words. He nodded at Yue Hengyi and started climbing the steps, gradually picking up speed. Using "Like Wind Following," his movements became swift as lightning as he charged towards the wall halfway up the mountain.

At this moment, behind the wall, over a dozen soldiers armed with submachine guns were observing the monitor screens, muttering amongst themselves, "Everyone, stay alert. A vehicle is approaching. It's not one of ours, and it looks like Asian faces. Be careful, and don't back down in a fight!"

The soldiers stood behind the wall, encouraging each other. The base had a population of over five thousand, which seemed like a lot, but the number of combat-ready personnel was severely lacking, only a few hundred. They didn't have enough firearms for everyone, so when strangers appeared, the base immediately became vigilant.

The soldiers stared intently at the monitor. On both sides of the path, over a dozen surveillance cameras were focused below. Whoever used the path would definitely be captured by the cameras.

However, as they watched the monitor, all the footage flashed by in an instant. They could only see a black shadow that disappeared in a flash. When they looked again, there was nothing on the monitor.

"Are the cameras broken? Why is there no footage?" These dozen soldiers were stunned. Why couldn't the cameras capture the images?

As they were fiddling with the computers, a voice suddenly came from above, "Does anyone speak Chinese?"

Hearing the unfamiliar voice and unfamiliar language, these people immediately tensed up. They looked up and saw an Asian man they had never seen before. As for the words he spoke, none of them understood.

"Open fire!" the leader commanded, leading his men to aim their firearms at Shen Feng, preparing to fire a burst at him.

Shen Feng stood on the wall, intending to find someone who spoke Chinese to explain his intentions. However, he didn't expect his voice to startle the people below. Seeing them raise their guns and aim at him, Shen Feng quickly dodged.

"Da da da..." bullets flew out continuously, but Shen Feng had already left the wall and landed in the courtyard behind it.

Everyone present was an ordinary person, with only the leading captain being a second-tier evolver. None of them could clearly see Shen Feng's movements. In their eyes, Shen Feng had vanished in an instant. This was because Shen Feng's speed was too fast, so their eyes couldn't accurately capture the movements, making it seem like the enemy disappeared in the blink of an eye.

Shen Feng appeared behind them and continued, "I just want to communicate with you peacefully. If you shoot again, I won't be polite!"

Although Shen Feng was looking for the radio and shouldn't have clashed with the people at this base, if a fight truly broke out, Shen Feng wouldn't let himself be slaughtered.

Unfortunately, due to the language barrier, Shen Feng's Chinese words were incomprehensible to these people. They babbled incoherently, but in any case, he was an enemy, and shooting was the correct response!

Immediately, the soldiers turned their guns and aimed at Shen Feng. "Da da da," bullets poured out again.

This time, Shen Feng was truly angered. How dare they shoot without a word? Did they really think I had no temper?

Shen Feng then used "Like Wind Following," dodging the bullets as he charged into the crowd. A whip kick sent the leader flying, and with a "crack," the man's left arm was instantly broken. Then, Shen Feng continued to dodge among the crowd.

Shen Feng's physical condition far surpassed that of ordinary people, and his eyes could track the trajectory of bullets. After entering the crowd, he continuously attacked with punches and kicks. The others dared not shoot randomly, fearing friendly fire. Within a minute, all over a dozen soldiers lay on the ground, rolling around clutching their limbs. Their arms and legs were all broken, rendering them unable to move.

The gunshots alerted others in the distance. More soldiers approached, shouting to their comrades, "Enemy attack! All men follow me to the battlefield, women hide!"

Within a few minutes, over a hundred people rushed out from a cluster of buildings in the distance, all armed with guns, and some even carrying mortars.

Seeing these people appear, Shen Feng prepared to communicate patiently. He spoke, "I am not an enemy. Does anyone here speak Chinese? Please step forward as a translator! I just want to borrow the radio!"

Shen Feng had expected that among so many people, there would surely be someone who spoke Chinese, but he was mistaken. These over a hundred people surrounded him, most of them aiming their guns at Shen Feng in the center.

Among the hundred-plus people, a few were whispering amongst themselves. They had initially thought people from another base had come to seize territory, so they had rushed out in full force. In the end, they realized things weren't as they imagined; their enemy was just one Asian person.

However, even if the opponent was just one person, their combat effectiveness was exceptionally strong. Fifteen people lay on the ground, all of them subdued by the Asian man in front of them. They definitely couldn't underestimate him.

For a moment, the situation fell into an eerie silence, with neither side making a move.

Shen Feng grew impatient and asked, "Is there anyone who understands Chinese? Can you please step forward?"

These people still showed no reaction, continuing to surround Shen Feng in the center.

At this moment, the small captain on the ground spoke. He shouted loudly in English, "What are you waiting for? Charge! This is an enemy, open fire, shoot quickly!"

The group of men was awakened by the captain's words. That's right, why hesitate? This enemy had indeed stormed into the base and injured their own people, so he was definitely an enemy!

"Open fire!" someone shouted. Immediately, over a hundred gun barrels spewed bullets, once again attacking Shen Feng.
