Chapter 379: Chapter 358: If the police hear it, they’ll vomit blood!

"What do you want me to do?"

"I want to go to the underground city!"

Consort Ling widened his eyes, looking at Xiao Lin with an incredulous expression.

"You heard me right, I want to go to the underground city." Xiao Lin repeated more emphatically.

"You might get killed before you even reach there."

"That’s why I’m entrusting my back to you!" Xiao Lin spoke casually, knowing anyone living on the edge would understand the meaning behind these words—a total trust.

"Has anyone ever told you you’re a fool?"

"I consider it the greatest compliment." Xiao Lin stood up from his chair, grabbing a bag from beside him: "Put on these clothes, I’ll wait for you outside."

Once Consort Ling changed into the police uniform, his demeanor transformed completely. Who says assassins can’t be good actors? Watching him, Xiao Lin suddenly recalled this saying; in a way, assassins are also actors.

"Where to?"

"Home!"

Home? Does he even have a home to go back to? Consort Ling couldn’t help but ponder these words. To him, an orphan, home was just where he slept; he spent most of his time cramped in his barely ten-square-meter room.

"How did you get into the ’Elimination’ position?" Xiao Lin drove his QQ, with Chopin’s pieces still playing inside.

"I killed the previous ’Elimination’." Consort Ling was more interested in the car than Xiao Lin’s question: "Are those in Dragon Soul all rich? Is this car’s engine made for airplanes?"

"You might consider joining Dragon Soul, the income’s not less than when being an assassin, plus the employee benefits are excellent, and you don’t need to pay for killing someone. It’s quite suitable for you."

Xiao Lin’s words made Consort Ling burst into laughter: "If the cops heard this, they’d vomit blood."

"Doesn’t matter, the police chief can only vomit blood when he sees me." Thinking about the sweating expression Lin Zhifang always has upon seeing him, Xiao Lin just wants to keep bullying such a person.

"We’re being followed."

Consort Ling didn’t move his body, only slightly turned his head to the left: "There’s a milk-white MINI behind us, the driver is a man between thirty to thirty-five years old, and there’s an old man around fifty in the back seat."

Xiao Lin nodded, maneuvering the steering wheel, suddenly changing lanes at a corner, entering a U-turn lane. The sudden change triggered a cacophony of car horns and some curses mixed in.

"You broke the traffic law." Consort Ling didn’t wear a seatbelt; he had his right hand resting on the door, swaying with the car as it turned back onto the opposite lane.

Xiao Lin slowed down, gazing at the milk-white MINI, then blew a kiss to the old man inside: "Turns out, you have this hobby too!" Consort Ling didn’t miss this action, and of course, he saw the old man inside getting furious.

Xiao Lin shrugged and shook his head, choosing not to explain, thus Consort Ling wouldn’t probe further. Privacy is not something in their interest to explore.

Hua Qingyi stood smoking next to his BMW; he had been waiting in this posture for a long time. He wasn’t waiting for beauties but for a man. His overly perfect face always earned admiring glances from women, and he wished those women would come up to chat, but he was like an animal in a zoo being watched, making him a bit annoyed.

A white QQ approached from the distance. Hua Qingyi dropped his cigarette, got into the BMW, and drove onto a main road before sliding into a second lane returning to his parked spot, onto a small road, through a grove, into an alley, finally stopping in front of a farmhouse.

The QQ arrived beside him in less than five minutes. Xiao Lin got out of the car, tapping on the BMW’s window.

"You’re half an hour late!" Hua Qingyi got out of the car, expressing his dissatisfaction.

"The old man showed up!" Xiao Lin casually let slip a sentence, silencing Hua Qingyi, who gave Xiao Lin a sympathetic look, as if saying, "You better look after yourself!"

"The air here is quite nice!" Xiao Lin wasn’t very satisfied with the house before him, although far from the city center, it’s still not hidden enough and too conspicuous: "What do you think?"

Consort Ling nodded to Hua Qingyi, sharing the same thought with Xiao Lin: "Isn’t there a better option?"

"There is, but none have a basement."

"Hmm!" Xiao Lin opened the door. Inside, the farmhouse was divided into four areas, with stairs leading to the second-floor living quarters in the middle, a kitchen, living room, and bathroom on either side.

"There are four rooms upstairs, each with its own bathroom facilities. The third floor is a terrace, and the basement was originally used by the previous residents to store miscellaneous items. The space is quite large, and I’ve already had the ventilation system fixed, so there’s no problem with oxygen. The other equipment will be delivered at night; it’s a bit conspicuous during the day."

Overall, it’s not bad. Xiao Lin stepped out of the farmhouse. He didn’t plan to move everything here, but leaving Lian and Xiang Fei was feasible. Besides...he chuckled to himself.

"Brother, did you notice too?" Hua Qingyi moved closer to Xiao Lin, while Consort Ling remained on full alert: "The boss moves fast."

"I believe our safety is guaranteed."

"Shouldn’t we eliminate them?" Consort Ling asked Xiao Lin incredulously.

"No need. With them watching us, absolute safety is assured." Xiao Lin smiled, patting Consort Ling on the shoulder: "After all, I stole something from them!" This was in explanation to Consort Ling’s question.

The basement area was about more than half the size of the entire farmhouse. Besides some basic fitness equipment, there were also some cold weapons: "This is prepared for you, brother!"

Consort Ling picked up an oddly shaped weapon about thirty centimeters long, with a slightly curved blade, weighing it in his hand: "Overall, it’s not bad. If the blade were a bit lighter, it would feel even better."

Just as he put the weapon down, he felt a gust of wind behind him. Instinctively, Consort Ling picked up the weapon again and swung it backward without turning around.

The blade tilted downwards as a figure leaped up, pressing down toward his head.

Consort Ling didn’t dodge like others would. Instead, he directly faced it head-on. After a collision, the figure retreated.

Xiao Lin steadied himself, a different kind of excitement gleaming in his eyes. And Consort Ling swung his arm, the numbness in his forearm lingering. He believed he hadn’t used his full strength.

"Again!" With that, Xiao Lin launched another attack, this time with full force, each move carrying a deadly intent.

Consort Ling didn’t take it lightly as before. He faced Xiao Lin’s moves seriously, and his speed in countering gradually increased. Watching from the side, Hua Qingyi couldn’t resist joining in.

A two-on-one situation unfolded instantly. Xiao Lin took off his jacket, his stretched body resembling a black panther, with muscles tensed up and ready to pounce.

Hua Qingyi glanced at Consort Ling and attacked Xiao Lin’s left side. His fist grazed Xiao Lin’s left chest, who then pushed him aside with a single move. Meanwhile, Consort Ling kicked his right leg toward Xiao Lin’s lower abdomen. A contraction, as if having a suction force, pulled Consort Ling’s right leg in. Then, a palm hit the top of his foot, and another hand blocked downward, flipping Consort Ling over and tumbling through the air, landing on the ground.

"Your leg strength is still a bit lacking, and your hand skills need improvement." Xiao Lin unabashedly pointed out Consort Ling’s weaknesses, picking up a towel to wipe his sweat: "Install a shower down here in the basement."

"Brother, when did you fix that weakness of yours?"

"If I told you, would I still be your brother?"

Xiao Lin put on his clothes, seeing Consort Ling still standing there without any intention of moving. He nonchalantly walked out of the basement. A high sense of pride isn’t a bad thing; someone like Consort Ling only becomes more determined when faced with setbacks. He wasn’t worried about Consort Ling being hurt.

Back in the living room on the ground floor, he took out a can of beer from the fridge and tossed it to Hua Qingyi, while he himself opened a bottle of mineral water: "How is Elder Hua doing lately?"

"Worrying about things in the Wang Family."

Hua Qingyi wasn’t interested in politics. In his view, anything that didn’t align with his beliefs should be eliminated directly. But his father didn’t seem to think that way. No one currently could replace the Wang Family, and removing them without finding a suitable candidate would cause considerable turmoil. One must first weaken the Wang Family’s influence in politics to consolidate their power, which is not something that can be achieved overnight.

"The Wang Family?"

"They’re currently in a reshuffle phase. The Wang Family is privately seeking connections to mediate, and the upper echelons are divided into two factions, contending with each other. A new election is about to start." Hua Qingyi took a few sips of beer. Because of this election, his father had issued a stern prohibition against him misbehaving or creating any negative news.

"Right now, I’m soaking in the Dragon Soul arena every day, not going anywhere else."

"The Wang Family! Haha." Xiao Lin sneered. "Lin Zhifang was involved with the Liger Gang’s Lion who previously committed robbery and attempted assassination against the Xia Family. After getting engaged to Xia Xue, a few days later, the Tiger came causing trouble and was taken down by me. There’s a good chance this is connected to the Wang Family."

"Oh?" Hua Qingyi turned the can around, listening quietly. "So, you’re saying the Wang Family secretly hired assassins because of this?"

"You must remember the question of the corpse during the Poison Dragon’s extermination. The Poison Dragon Gang’s backing never truly surfaced. A gang that can dominate so completely wouldn’t dare be so bold without political backing."

"Among the four major families, the Chen Family and the Sun Family have always remained on the sidelines. The Chen Family’s power isn’t based in Yanjing, so aside from the Hua Family, it’s only the Wang Family." Hua Qingyi said in a deep voice.

"Tell Uncle Hua to hold his position. We can leverage the Xia Family’s case to openly investigate the mastermind." Xiao Lin nodded and then said.

"Got it!" Downing the beer, Hua Qingyi crushed the can and tossed it into the trash bin. (To be continued. If you like this work, feel free to visit Qidian () to cast your recommendation votes and monthly tickets. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
