"Oh, you fucking bastard, how dare you slander my reputation like this?"
"Who did you people learn from?"
"This time, even if that Monkey King and the Golden Cicada don't destroy you, I won't spare you!"
"This is too outrageous!"
"Although our Spirit Mountain's Lesser Vehicle Buddhist sect doesn't have a Saint presiding, you dogs can't desecrate us like this!"
If not for her esteemed status, which prevented her from easily showing herself and risking humiliation, Guanyin would have already pounced.
She would have bitten that Elder Jinchi and his million monks to death.
But how could a few angry curses possibly quell all her rage?
With Sun Kong and his disciples about to arrive,
Guanyin Bodhisattva truly couldn't stay any longer. Faced with the prospect of being mocked by Sun Kong again, she had to suppress her anger and head towards Black Wind Mountain, tens of thousands of miles away.
She planned to subdue the Black Bear Spirit first, then make further plans.
Of course.
Guanyin Bodhisattva's anger was not merely born of jealousy from being increasingly undervalued, but had genuine reasons.
The reason was none other than Elder Jinchi, who was indeed a disciple many generations removed, whom she had taken in years ago. He should have adhered to her teachings most diligently and not tarnished the name of "Guanyin."
This was also why, even though her karmic connection to the tenth trial had weakened, she still bravely pleaded with Burning Lamp Buddha for an opportunity.
Not for any other reason.
It was to prove her value to the Buddhas of Spirit Mountain once more.
More importantly, to earn Sun Kong's respect and to stop being looked down upon by Burning Lamp Buddha and others.
Perhaps, it could even elevate her back to being one of the most contributing deities in the original Journey to the West, earning the greatest merit rewards!
But she hadn't expected.
This scoundrel, emboldened by some unknown force, was using the name of Guanyin Zen Monastery and her reputation to intimidate others, while simultaneously engaging in all sorts of deception and trickery to fool mortals.
No wonder Elder Jinchi, a mere waste with less than an Earth Immortal cultivation, could live for over two hundred years.
No wonder, according to the calculations of Burning Lamp Buddha before their departure, the entire Guanyin Zen Monastery would be burnt down after this tenth trial.
Losing Elder Jinchi was nothing.
The death of a million more worthless beings than Elder Jinchi was also nothing.
Guanyin Bodhisattva would not feel the slightest pity for this.
However.
What she truly couldn't bear to lose was her reputation!
Think about it.
She, Guanyin Bodhisattva, was formerly one of the Twelve Golden Immortals of the Chan Sect, named Ci Hang Daoist. As early as the era of the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors, she had traveled throughout the Great Desolation and the Three Realms, leaving behind a good reputation everywhere.
Not to brag.
At the very least, she had left behind hundreds of temples dedicated to her by mortals, allowing her to enjoy boundless incense offerings while her cultivation progressed much faster than her reclusive fellow disciples.
Later.
Due to the troubles faced by the Twelve Golden Immortals during the Investiture of the Gods calamity, she, along with three others, defected to the Western Teachings and transformed into the current Guanyin Bodhisattva.
Thousands, even tens of thousands, of years had passed since then. During this time, she had also never forgotten to manifest her true form everywhere and show compassion.
At her peak, the total number of temples, monasteries, and other establishments dedicated to her by sentient beings exceeded three thousand.
She was arguably the most numerous among the Twelve Golden Immortals.
None could compare.
This was why, despite her being only a Bodhisattva, her status within the hierarchy of Spirit Mountain Buddhas was no less than that of most Tathagatas and Buddhas!
Regardless of whether others perceived her actions as false compassion and true pursuit of reward.
In any case, the taste of her cultivation steadily increasing was incredibly satisfying.
Until about five hundred years ago, when the emergence of Sun Kong interrupted this progress.
Especially.
After the passing of Tathagata Buddha and the ascension of Burning Lamp Buddha, who was not adept at managing the Buddhas of Spirit Mountain, coupled with Sun Kong's continued dazzling performances outside.
This led to a significant decrease in the faith of mortals in the Earth Immortal Realm towards the Western Teachings.
To speak of nothing else.
Guanyin Bodhisattva herself saw her original three thousand temples and monasteries suffer a drastic decline overnight.
Apart from those that were buried by storms or other natural disasters due to disrepair over time.
The vast majority were because, over the years, people's faith in her, Guanyin Bodhisattva, had waned, leading them to transfer their devotion and change their worship.
How many people had changed their allegiance?
Guanyin Bodhisattva couldn't calculate it immediately.
But approximately how many temples and monasteries had been destroyed and never repaired?
Before Guanyin Bodhisattva set out this time, Burning Lamp Buddha had spent considerable effort and personally helped her perform calculations on this matter.
Finally.
He arrived at a worst-case scenario that sent shivers down the spines of all the Buddhas of Spirit Mountain, a feeling of impending doom!
"Sister Guanyin, the four of you have truly messed up. If you continue to maintain your past indifferent stance towards the Great Sage Sun, sooner or later, your last few temples and monasteries will also be gone."
"Don't blame this Buddha for speaking so coldly. Let's not talk about others. As for you, apart from those within Spirit Mountain itself."
"There are no longer any temples or monasteries of the Lesser Vehicle Buddhist sect in the entire human world."
"In the Earth Immortal Realm, the total number of temples and monasteries that continue to worship and believe in you should not exceed the number of fingers on one hand. You should take care of yourselves. Don't regret it when you have no incense left, only to find it's too late."
"Oh Tathagata, oh Tathagata, when you passed away, we all thought you deserved it. Who would have thought that now, it seems you were the one who was right. Not following the Great Sage Sun leads to no future, perhaps even a negative future!"
At that time, Burning Lamp Buddha's words descended like the end of the world, heavily impacting every remaining Buddha of Spirit Mountain.
Naturally, it also shocked Guanyin Bodhisattva, the foremost of the Four Great Bodhisattvas.
Thus, this led to Guanyin Bodhisattva's current actions, risking being mocked and criticized, to come and check on Guanyin Zen Monastery.
But now it seemed.
It made things even more unbearable for her.
The claim by Burning Lamp Buddha of having five remaining temples and monasteries was now confirmed by Guanyin Bodhisattva. One of them, Guanyin Zen Monastery, had utterly degenerated and was bound to face calamity.
Then.
The number of temples and monasteries left for Guanyin Bodhisattva would become even more pitiful. If any subsequent calamities were even slightly unfavorable, perhaps the remaining three or four.
Would also be lost.
By then.
Guanyin Bodhisattva, despite holding the title of second-in-command among the Buddhas of Spirit Mountain, would be unable to contend with formidable figures like Sun Kong and Luohu outside.
Internally, she would lack a sufficient number of believers to provide incense.
How would she possibly live in the future?
"Damn it!"
"I'm going all out this time! Even if my cultivation hasn't improved at all in five hundred years, even without treasures bestowed by Tathagata, or the three rings."
"Can't I just not defeat that Black Bear Spirit?"
With this surge of anger, Guanyin Bodhisattva arrived at Black Wind Mountain.
Without warning.
Her foot slipped, and she, the dignified foremost of the Four Great Bodhisattvas, tumbled into a bottomless abyss!
