"The Harbinger Sprite"
To those unfamiliar with the situation, Ishtar’s audacity in planning to defeat Freya’s Familia would seem inexplicable.
Even disregarding elite members like Goddess’s Chariot and Flame Gold Four Warriors, Ottar alone could decimate the entire Ishtar Familia.
Even if Ishtar had successfully completed the ritual, it wouldn’t have fundamentally altered the outcome.
The trump card Ishtar had prepared to counter Ottar was the fully matured Fallen Sprite avatar now before the Loki Familia.
Unlike the previously encountered Fallen Sprite avatars, which were female in form, this monstrous entity manifested as a beautiful maiden above, yet its lower half was that of a colossal bull.
This was Ishtar’s ultimate secret weapon. She provided funding to the Dark Faction, and in return, she received the avatar of the Fallen Sprite known as the Heavenly Bull.
In Drake’s past life’s ancient mythology, Ishtar, having been spurned by Gilgamesh in her advances, unleashed the Heavenly Bull in a fit of rage and spite.
The outcome, however, was that this immensely powerful creature became merely another footnote in the Hero King’s long list of accomplishments.
In a certain other world, the very chains used to bind this Heavenly Bull had even become a renowned Noble Phantasm.
It can only be said that the world of Danmachi truly lives up to its reputation as a derivative work meticulously crafted from the foundation of ancient myths.
The Heavenly Bull’s estimated danger level was at least Level 7; coupled with the Killing Stone, it possessed a genuine chance of defeating Ottar.
The Killing Stone itself was a product of the Dark Faction, and its influence could not be disregarded, but even a single avatar of a Fallen Sprite was a formidable adversary that could not be underestimated.
All members of the Loki Familia engaged in a fierce and brutal clash against the Heavenly Bull.
Simultaneously, the battle between Drake and Filvis Challia intensified.
Filvis Challia’s rapier attacks were incredibly swift and precise, a testament to her genuine high-Level 7 strength.
Unfortunately, Filvis Challia’s elven-style swordsmanship, while aesthetically pleasing, was deemed overly flashy and impractical by Drake.
Drake summoned the Evil Dragon and the Dragon Slayer, utilizing both to completely shut down all of Filvis Challia’s attack vectors.
Drake had engaged in combat with countless opponents, and many had found themselves overwhelmed and suppressed by his superior strength. These opponents invariably displayed a range of emotions under pressure.
However, Filvis Challia was markedly different; there was no sign of panic, anxiety, fear, or even the slightest hint of hesitation in her demeanor.
She fought with the cold, detached precision of a lifeless automaton. And indeed, for someone whose heart had already ceased to beat, someone who no longer valued their own life, what other emotions could possibly remain?
The Harbinger Sprite—this was not merely a title bestowed upon Filvis Challia by the adventurers; it was a moniker that she herself likely considered an accurate reflection of her cursed fate.
Yet, even if she had wished to end her own life, to escape the torment of her existence, her monstrous form had robbed her of even that final choice.
The young woman’s tragic fate was irrevocably sealed, not from the moment she underwent her transformation into a monster, but from the very day she pledged her allegiance to Dionysus and assisted him in carrying out his utterly deranged plan.
Drake felt no pity for her; the only course of action he could consider was to purify her with the cleansing flames of his power.
Drake’s eyes burned with an intense, fiery light, and his fists were now wreathed in scorching flames.
With a swift and decisive strike, Drake’s hand-chop severed Filvis Challia’s slender rapier, the point of breakage glowing a fiery crimson, with molten metal dripping down from the wound.
Despite the destruction of her weapon, Filvis Challia remained unfazed as Drake approached her.
"Raise the cup as a shield, shatter the evil chalice! Supreme God—Savior’s Holy Grail!"
Filvis Challia raised her short wand and began chanting the incantation for a remarkably short spell. A shimmering barrier materialized before Drake, blocking his path. Drake’s powerful Fire Dragon’s Iron Fist attack failed to penetrate this formidable barrier.
Even before her transformation into a monster, Filvis Challia had awakened both an offensive and a defensive magic spell, establishing herself as a dazzling new star in the Orario adventurer scene.
Among these spells, "Supreme God—Savior’s Holy Grail" possessed the unique ability to simultaneously block both magical and physical attacks; it was also a remarkably convenient short spell, making it exceptionally practical in combat.
Filvis Challia had previously taught this spell to Lefiya of the Loki Familia. Lefiya, possessing the [Arcs Ray] magic, was also capable of utilizing this spell and had employed it on numerous occasions to help her comrades overcome perilous situations.
Drake had never witnessed Lefiya employing this spell, but in Filvis Challia’s hands, this magic displayed an astonishing level of defensive capabilities.
The sheer force of the recoil from the spell even sent Drake reeling backward.
Drake regained his footing, his gaze fixed upon the impassive Filvis Challia. "That is an impressive spell! I wonder what kind of wish you harbored when you awakened this magic?"
Within the framework of the divine grace system, in addition to training and study, the power of a wish played a crucial role.
Skills and magic spells manifested within an adventurer’s ability values based on the strength and nature of the wish.
Just as Bell desired to become faster and stronger, and thus awakened the "Firebolt" spell, and Ais yearned for the power to exact revenge upon the monsters and thus awakened the "Wind Spirit Sprint" spell,
the question remained as to what heartfelt desire Filvis Challia had harbored when she awakened such a spell, a spell that was so clearly designed to protect her companions.
Finally, a flicker of emotion crossed Filvis Challia’s face; her gaze fell upon the short wand clutched in her hand, and her eyes were filled with profound regret and sorrow.
She would never forget the moment, after awakening the "Supreme God—Savior’s Holy Grail" spell, when her companions had presented her with this very wand.
She had sworn, at that time, to use this magic to protect her companions. Yet, why was she now left to face everything alone?
Drake could sense a profound shift in Filvis Challia’s aura; in addition to the sorrow she felt, a palpable sense of madness had begun to take hold.
It was as though a single drop of pure water had been added to a vessel of ink; the entire substance was instantly stained a deep, inky black.
Filvis Challia’s "Ansel" spell was based on the well-known elven tale of "Myself."
In the tale, an elf tells a young boy that her name is "Myself," and the boy, in turn, also identifies himself as "Myself."
However, the boy inadvertently burns the elf with hot ashes from a fireplace, and when the elf’s mother inquires as to who had caused the injury, the elf’s response is "Myself."
Despite the fact that the injury had been inflicted by another, the blame and the burden of guilt fall upon herself. This ironic tale proved to be remarkably fitting for Filvis Challia’s situation.
Having dispelled the avatar spell, Filvis Challia had now fully merged with the dark side of her being that she had previously separated. She was now fully prepared to accept the consequences of her actions, the consequences that stemmed from her own identity, the consequences of "Myself."
And those consequences manifested as unrestrained, malevolent madness!
"You... you despicable creature, you shall pay for what you have done!" Filvis Challia’s voice had undergone a transformation, now laced with a chilling tone of unrestrained fury. She drew a short sword from behind her back.
Filvis Challia launched herself at Drake, her short sword aimed with deadly precision at his throat, his most vulnerable point.
Drake reached out to seize her weapon, but Filvis Challia, having already experienced firsthand the destructive power of Drake’s flames during their previous encounter, was far too astute to repeat the same mistake.
With a light tap of her foot against the ground, Filvis Challia propelled herself into the air, her short sword deftly avoiding the fate of being melted into molten metal by Drake’s intense flames.
Within the framework of the divine grace system, there was no rigid division into distinct classes or professions. An adventurer could readily transition from serving as a front-line warrior, wielding a shield and heavy armor, to acting as a scout, donning light armor and focusing on speed and stealth.
However, certain roles did have inherent prerequisites. For instance, an adventurer could only function as a mage if they had awakened a magic spell.
And within the broader category of mages, in addition to the bombardment mages who focused on stationary, high-damage magical attacks, there existed a more demanding and specialized profession.
This was the magic swordsman, who required mastery of the "parallel chanting" magical technique, coupled with exceptional close-combat skills.
Mages were required to maintain a high degree of stability and focus while chanting incantations and constructing magical formations; therefore, the ability to fight effectively while simultaneously chanting incantations was a skill that required rigorous and dedicated training.
While Bell’s mastery of high-speed magic spells was exceptional, it was undeniable that this was largely due to his status as the protagonist, allowing him to essentially "cheat" the system.
Filvis Challia was clearly a magic swordsman who had mastered the "parallel chanting" technique. While still airborne, she smoothly began her incantation.
"Sweep away all enemies, shatter the evil staff! Supreme God—God of Wine’s Staff!"
A bolt of lightning descended from the heavens, striking directly towards Drake’s face.
However, Drake merely swung his arm, effortlessly shattering the lightning bolt.
"Living like this must be incredibly painful, wouldn’t you agree? I shall grant you release immediately!"
With these words, Drake entered his Dragon Blood mode.
