The day after the Enyo Extermination Battle, Orario was already bustling with reconstruction efforts.
Although the Fallen Sprite avatars failed to activate the Six Rings of the Sprites, the six Sprite pillars unleashed unrestrained magic, causing considerable destruction.
Nidhogg’s defeat by Drake meant Dionysus’s plan had completely failed. Even the six Sprite pillars were destroyed by various Familias.
The Dark Faction was crippled; the remaining members had retreated into the artificial labyrinth, making them difficult to dislodge in the short term.
Dionysus—or rather, Enyo—the mastermind behind the chaos, was sent back to the heavens by Loki, Freya, and Hephaestus.
However, the greatest contributor to this victory, Hephaestus Familia’s Dragon Furnace, was nowhere to be found.
No one saw when Drake left, or where he went.
He had used world magic to return to the Fairy Tail world.
The last time he had forcibly absorbed the power of a magic spirit, he had been forced to use world magic to escape. He had spent nearly three months in the Danmachi world.
Thanks to the upgrade to his world magic, only about ten days should have passed in the Fairy Tail world. But he was still missing, and he wondered how worried Natsu and the others must be.
Drake reappeared at the former site of the Eden Tower, but the massive magic crystal tower had vanished without a trace.
This was to be expected; even if any remnants of the magic crystal had survived the magical explosion, they would undoubtedly have been recovered by the Magic Council.
After surveying the island, now reduced to a wasteland, Drake spread his fire wings and flew towards the guild.
Having leveled up twice in the Danmachi world, Drake’s speed had increased significantly since his arrival, and he quickly approached Magnolia, the town where Fairy Tail was located.
Just as Drake began to reduce his altitude, a piece of paper came flying towards him and landed directly on his face. Drake halted his descent, reached out, and removed the paper from his face.
It was a flyer advertising Magnolia’s Harvest Festival.
Harvest Festivals are celebrations held in every city, generally to commemorate a year of bountiful harvests and to pray for peace and prosperity in the coming year.
The Magnolia Harvest Festival differed from those in other cities in that it featured a grand parade at night, organized by the Fairy Tail wizards’ guild.
Oh, and there was also a Fairy Tail beauty pageant.
Looking at the voting slogans printed on the flyer, Drake couldn’t help but feel a sense of bewilderment. Who, he wondered, was footing the bill for the 500,000J prize money awarded to the winner of the Fairy Tail Miss contest?
Surely the guild master wasn’t embezzling funds?!
Drake suddenly paused, as he recalled that this particular plot point did indeed exist in the original story.
"Laxus, you idiot, don’t do anything stupid!"
Drake increased his speed, leaving a blazing crimson streak across the sky.
The closer he got to Magnolia, the stronger his ominous premonition became. Sure enough, he could hear the sounds of battle emanating from various parts of the town.
What a cruel twist of fate! He had just finished exterminating an evil dragon in another world, only to return and find himself having to clean up the mess created by some troublesome individuals.
Drake’s mood soured considerably, and as a result, someone was about to face the consequences.
The fighting in Magnolia was not the result of an external invasion, but rather an internal conflict within Fairy Tail itself.
The incident began when Evergreen, the female mage of Laxus’s Thunder God Tribe trio, used her magic to transform Erza and several other members of the guild into stone statues.
Following this, Laxus unilaterally declared the commencement of a rather pointless game, stating that he would only undo the petrification spell if they managed to defeat him.
Initially, everyone intended to simply subdue Laxus, but upon venturing outside, they encountered a magically-constructed barrier laid by Freed, another member of the Thunder God Tribe.
Freed’s barrier magic was quite unique; anyone who stepped within its confines was compelled to abide by the rules that Freed had established.
The rules that Freed had set for Magnolia were designed to incite the members of Fairy Tail into a bloody conflict, with the ultimate goal of selecting the "strongest" member among them.
Drake surveyed the town; although everyone was engaged in fierce combat, their attacks were clearly restrained, and there was no immediate cause for concern regarding their safety.
Therefore, he decided to fly directly back to the guild. When he had previously departed, the guild was still under reconstruction; now, it had been completely renovated.
The guild’s former small building had been transformed into a rather extravagant castle, but the area surrounding the guild was completely deserted, which seemed somewhat unusual.
Drake landed at the guild’s entrance and reached out to touch the gate, only to find himself abruptly stopped by an invisible wall composed of magical runes.
This barrier, too, had been created by Freed, and its rules stipulated that individuals over the age of fifty were not permitted to pass.
Drake, having traveled through time from five hundred years in the past, found that this rule applied to him as well.
The fact that he was considered to be five hundred years old by the world’s rules caused Drake to pause for a moment, a flicker of uncertainty crossing his mind.
"[Drake!]"
Natsu’s voice rang out from within the guild, and a moment later, Natsu himself could be seen pressed against the magical barrier.
Drake sighed wearily. "Natsu, please try to remain calm. I’m perfectly fine."
Natsu, using his hands to push against the magical barrier, managed to move himself away from it, his voice filled with barely-contained excitement.
"Drake, where in the world have you been?! But never mind that for now, just let me out of here! I’m going to beat the living daylights out of that bonehead Laxus!"
Drake sighed again. "So it was Laxus who caused this mess, was it?"
Makarov, the guild master, approached, his sleeves rolled up. "Drake, you’ve arrived at just the right moment! That young Laxus is about to do something incredibly foolish, and you must stop that stubborn fool!"
Drake sighed. "Master, you really know how to make things difficult for a person! But speaking of which, those barrier spells wouldn’t be able to stop you, would they?
The reason you haven’t come out is simply because you don’t know how to handle Laxus. But if things continue as they are, you’ll inevitably be forced to make a decision that you’d rather avoid."
Makarov seemed to age visibly before their very eyes; his already short stature appeared even more stooped and frail.
Drake ran a hand through his hair in frustration. "Seriously, as soon as I get back, I’m faced with this kind of trouble! It’s infuriating!"
With those words, Drake turned and began walking away.
Natsu continued to pound against the magical barrier. "Drake, where are you going? Let Master and me out first!"
Drake waved his hand dismissively. "I’m going to go and knock some sense into that stubborn Laxus. After all, we can’t afford to have this disruption affect tonight’s Harvest Festival parade."
Makarov lifted his head, his gaze fixed on Drake’s retreating figure. "My apologies, Drake. And... I entrust everything to you."
Drake spread his fire wings and launched himself into the sky.
Laxus made no attempt to conceal his location; his magical aura remained stationary at a single point within the town.
The Kardia Cathedral, the most prominent landmark in Magnolia, aside from Fairy Tail itself.
Drake descended from the heavens like a plummeting meteorite, and with a single powerful kick, he shattered the massive doors of the cathedral.
"Well, well, well! Laxus, my old friend. It’s been a while!"
Gazing upon Laxus, who sat within the cathedral with an air of arrogant self-assurance, his arms crossed and his chin resting upon his hands, Drake offered a greeting that was as warm as it was ominous.
