Chapter 1214: Chapter 1214: Are You Okay?
Bai Xiao and Qi Yuqing went shopping. These past few days, they had been cooped up in the hotel, spending day and night in the conference room reviewing materials to enhance their imaging technology. The competition was tomorrow, and the two of them were feeling dizzy, so they decided to take a break and have a good meal.
Actually, there was someone assigned to deliver meals every day, and the food was excellent, but anything good can become tiresome when you have too much of it.
Bai Xiao and Qi Yuqing agreed to have hot pot together.
Bai Xiao had also specifically invited Bai Song! As a matchmaker, she needed to do her part.
It seemed like Qi Yuqing was quite satisfied with her elder brother! Having interacted more with her, Bai Xiao had come to understand Qi Yuqing quite well.
If things really worked out with her elder brother, they would make a great pair.
It all depended on her brother’s feelings, so this meal was an opportunity.
Otherwise, once the competition started in a half month, they’d be too busy to meet.
If she left, her brother, being so stubborn, might not even realize what the girl felt.
She was determined to make her brother and Qi Yuqing’s relationship clear before leaving, and the rest would be up to them.
Qi Yuqing worked at Jingdu Renhe Hospital, and Bai Song was also in the Capital City, so they had plenty of opportunities.
It was up to their own will now.
Bai Song said they should go ahead, and he would join them after work.
It was a treat from his sister, and Bai Song was happy to spend time with her.
Especially since there was a little nephew or niece to consider.
Upon returning home, Bai Xiao’s pregnancy news was shared with their grandmother. Li Chunhua, though seemingly unchanged in demeanor, would casually remind Bai Song of some pregnancy precautions, as if speaking to him.
But how could Bai Song not know these were directed to someone else through him?
He wasn’t getting pregnant himself.
The grandmother!
She might have done something regrettable in her life, knowing it couldn’t be undone, yet she kept a tough exterior.
Sometimes, Bai Song thought Li Chunhua and Bai Xiao were more alike.
Bai Xiao and Qi Yuqing headed to the parking lot. Qi Yuqing had driven there, and her car had been parked for days.
"How are you doing, feeling alright?" Qi Yuqing was worried Bai Xiao might be unwell.
Over the past few days, she had witnessed how unreasonable morning sickness in early pregnancy could be; even the faintest aroma that she couldn’t notice might make Bai Xiao vomit till she felt dizzy.
These days had indeed been lived in cautious anxiety.
Today marked the tenth time Qi Yuqing had asked this.
The hotel had an underground parking lot, but there were some spots specially reserved for those needing special care, so they didn’t have to get wet or walk too far.
Yet Qi Yuqing was evidently categorized as healthy and not afraid of rain, having to use the outdoor parking lot.
"I’m fine!" Bai Xiao replied helplessly, as it was already the tenth time she had asked.
Their conversation was almost a never-ending you-ask-I-answer game.
"This weather is perfect for hot pot. It’s too cold now; a few days ago a light jacket was enough, but now I feel like wrapping myself in a quilt. A hot pot would definitely warm my stomach," Qi Yuqing, someone who knew how to enjoy life, said.
"I really want something spicy too, and I think my baby is a girl. Isn’t there a saying about sour for boys and spicy for girls?" Bai Xiao touched her belly.
"Oh come on, Dr. Bai, you’ve had higher education. Haven’t you learned biology? The sour-for-boys and spicy-for-girls saying isn’t accurate. Yesterday you made me buy extremely sour green oranges, and you ate them as if they were delicious, which made me think they were tasty, but one bite nearly soured me to death," Qi Yuqing laughed.
Bai Xiao smiled with closed lips.
Her taste seemed to really have gone haywire; what wasn’t sour at all to her could sour Qi Yuqing to death.
"Then I really can’t tell; it seems like that! I like both sour and spicy, could it mean both a boy and a girl?" Bai Xiao gushed with excitement, aware of triplets.
But generally, the probability of triplets is higher for identical ones; if there were really a boy and a girl, then she’d hit the jackpot.
Both she and An Zhiyuan were soldiers! And officers with significant duties. Family planning was something they must abide by.
If there was a chance to have it all in one go without breaking the law, that would be the best outcome.
"I want to be the godmother. Bai Xiao, I want to be the child’s godmother!" Qi Yuqing applied, already fond of the yet-to-be-born little white chub.
"Absolutely."
A car pulled out of a parking space, heading in their direction.
Bai Xiao stopped listening to Qi Yuqing’s chatter and focused on the car.
A tall man was driving the car, which was nothing special in itself, just a semi-new off-white Santana.
But he was driving too fast. She nudged Qi Yuqing a bit towards the roadside to give the car more space.
The lanes in the parking lot weren’t wide.
She really just looked at him out of curiosity, but suddenly her nerves tensed; it was hard to say why she suddenly felt scared and angry.
She wasn’t someone without a sense of safety.
So she kept watching the car, only to see it suddenly accelerate.
The driver, wearing sunglasses, was clearly visible through the windshield, and she felt he was also staring at her.
Qi Yuqing complained as she was pressed against the adjacent car, "That car is driving way too fast!"
Bai Xiao felt the hairs on her arm stand on end.
She stopped to watch the driver, as the car drew closer and closer.
He floored the accelerator, making the car rush towards them.
Bai Xiao turned around and used her shoulder to bump into Qi Yuqing, pushing them between two cars.
At that moment, a loud metallic crash sounded in her ears, and they collided hard with the ground, lying on the cement with Qi Yuqing beneath her, tightly shielding her with both hands.
The car next to them shook from the impact, and its rear skidded towards them.
The front part of the car struck the neighboring vehicle, and with the rebound force, the entire car slid backward, the rear wheels stopping just a few centimeters from Qi Yuqing’s head.
Immediately, the sound of emergency brakes rang out in the parking lot.
There were people shouting loudly and the sound of footsteps rushing towards them.
Then the squealing of tires crushing was heard again, and they heard a car engine roaring to its limit speeding away, sounding fainter as the distance increased.
Bai Xiao carefully sat up.
Her whole body felt sore. Qi Yuqing anxiously checked her over, noticing slight bleeding from her palms because of the fall, her right knee stinging.
Qi Yuqing breathed a sigh of relief, placing a hand on her forehead; she leaned against the car tire, looking at Bai Xiao.
"Are you okay?" they both said simultaneously.
They looked into each other’s eyes for a moment.
"Yeah," Bai Xiao finally answered. "And you?"
"Oh, standard bruises and scrapes. That car nearly hit us."
Qi Yuqing angrily gazed at the parking lot exit.
"The thing is he fled the scene!"
