“What girlfriend, huh? You’re just gonna ditch your bro like that? Are you really gonna let me sit in the dorm alone, bored out of my mind?”
“Who’s more important, your woman or your brother?!”
It was early evening, and as soon as they stepped out of the teaching building, Zhang Shaoqing clung to Wang Jie’s side, chattering non-stop.
He put on a pitiful act, trying to guilt-trip Wang Jie with brotherhood. “Come on, man! I’ve been nothing but good to you! We’ve got decades of friendship!”
“It’s barely been three months,” Wang Jie said flatly, walking ahead while Zhang Shaoqing trailed right behind.
Seeing that the brotherhood card wasn’t working, Shaoqing’s attitude flipped instantly. “Fine! Go! Just leave! Guess we’re not bros anymore!”
“You’re just gonna go home for the weekend? Haven’t been back in weeks, have you?”
“Oh, I see how it is! Not only are you ditching your bro, but you're pushing me to an early grave, huh?!”
Ning Chu and Wen Yang followed behind, unable to hold back their laughter at the dramatic display.
But their laughter immediately caught Zhang Shaoqing’s attention.“You two still have the nerve to laugh?! Wen Yang, ever since you got yourself a girlfriend, you’ve stopped coming back to the dorm! Every night you’re out making love with her! Do you even remember your brother exists?!”
He glared righteously at Wen Yang. “I was the one who helped you find Wen Wen’s rental place, and now look at you! You barely even sleep in the dorm anymore!”
“I’ve been sleeping in the dorm these past few nights,” Wen Yang shot back with a side-eye.
Ning Chu turned her head, a bit embarrassed.
Even if Wen Yang had stayed over at her place… there definitely hadn’t been any sex happening! Stop saying such nonsense!
“Are you staying in the dorm this weekend too?” Shaoqing pressed.
“That… might not happen…”
“Aha! I knew it! Tch! Scumbag!”
“???”
Wen Yang scratched his head, completely baffled by the scumbag accusation, and gave a helpless shake.
Shaoqing was just the kind of guy who couldn’t stand being alone—he needed constant noise and action. Asking someone like that to stay alone in the dorm really was a tall order.
“And you! Ning Chu…” He turned, ready to point fingers at her next—but then stopped. After all, it wasn’t exactly unreasonable for a girl to not want to crash in the boys' dorm.
“Damn it, everyone’s ditching me! Now I finally get why so many elderly people are left alone. No one cares anymore—what a cruel world~”
Ning Chu rolled her eyes. “Oh, shut it.”
Bantering all the way, they finally arrived back at the boys’ dorm, Ning Chu’s first time returning in a few days.
But even after such a short absence, her desk had already turned into a junk pile—random stuff stacked messily on top.
A faint smell of stinky feet hung in the air. She hadn’t noticed it before when she lived there regularly, but now it made her wrinkle her nose in disgust.
“Meow~”
As soon as the door opened, a small black blur shot out like a missile and latched onto Zhang Shaoqing’s ankle, biting and pouncing furiously.
“Look at this cat, acting like I’m its mortal enemy. Ungrateful little thing,” Zhang Shaoqing muttered as he tried to shake Black Bean off gently with his foot.
Wen Yang gave the scene a glance and said, “She’s just playing with you. You never even bought her any toys. At the very least, get a dang cat teaser or something.”
“You think you know better? Then you raise her.”
“…”
Wen Yang could talk the talk, but truth be told, he wasn’t a huge fan of cats.
Without saying much more, he silently started packing up Black Bean’s things to take with him.
Just as Ning Chu was racking her brain over how to carry Black Bean, the cat obediently climbed into a discarded delivery bag on the floor all on her own.
Perfect timing!
Grinning, Ning Chu picked up the bag—with cat and all—and gave it a little test lift. Despite what Shaoqing had claimed, Black Bean definitely didn’t weigh ten pounds. More like five or so.
For a six-month-old kitten, five pounds was a pretty average weight.
Back when they first found her, trembling in the rain and looking like a half-dead little skeleton, her fur had been scruffy and her body bony.
Now, she was sleek and shiny, with a soft, elastic layer of healthy meat.
“Ready to go?”
“Yeah,” Wen Yang replied, finishing up the packing as he and Ning Chu got ready to leave together.
“Hey! Make sure you feed her well! Don’t let her go hungry and skinny again!”
“Don’t worry.”
Ning Chu wasn’t some kind of monster—no way she’d starve the cat on purpose.
To bring Black Bean onto the bus, she wrapped the transparent plastic bag with an extra layer of black garbage bag. When she gave it a little shake, the cat inside seemed surprisingly content, even purring softly.
Everything went smoothly, and about half an hour later, Ning Chu arrived at her rental apartment.
She placed the bag with the cat gently on the floor. Turning around, she saw Wen Yang already setting up a small gate at the door using a pet fence to keep Black Bean from sneaking out.
“Can you figure out where to put the litter box?”
“Mm.”
Ning Chu looked around and decided to put the litter box just outside the bathroom door, while the food and water bowls would go next to her computer desk.
Zhang Shaoqing had even bought an automatic water dispenser for the cat—it only needed cleaning once a week.
All things considered, taking care of a cat didn’t seem too troublesome.
Black Bean, in a new environment, was showing some signs of stress. She curled up in a corner, only a pair of glowing eyes visible as she cautiously peeked out.
“Black Bean~ Shaoqing doesn’t want you anymore, so you better behave and listen from now on, okay?”
“Meow~”
“Wen Yang! She understood me!”
Wen Yang then secured the pet fence to the doorway and came into the room. Glancing at the cat hiding in the corner, he asked, “Want me to grab dinner for you downstairs? What do you feel like eating tonight?”
“Hmm… anything’s fine. I’m not super hungry.”
“Shaxian snacks again?”
“Sure.”
Since Black Bean was still hiding and didn’t seem interested in coming out, Ning Chu lost the urge to keep teasing her. She opened her laptop and got back to working on her novel.
Her goal was to finish the opening chapters this weekend and send them to editors at major web novel platforms by Monday.
As long as she could sign a contract, that full attendance bonus was as good as hers!
“Hmm… why does something feel… off?”
She had only written a couple of lines when something hit her.
She frowned, a wave of heat and emptiness suddenly blooming in her lower abdomen, making her squirm uncomfortably in her chair.
Wen Yang was just downstairs getting food—there was no way he’d have triggered any kind of plot in that short time, right?
Her cheeks flushed hot, and a rosy tint began to spread from her face to her ears and down her neck, creeping in like the slow burn of a seductive fever.
She was panting uncontrollably, legs weak, as she dragged herself slowly to the bed and dove under the covers.
If Wen Yang came back right now…
A man and a woman, all by themself, moreover, the woman is a succubus who is in heat…
There’s no need to ask if they are going to do what couples normally do or not! If things actually go even further, it would already be lucky if she can walk by tomorrow morning!
Just then, the mattress shifted.
She turned her head—and found Black Bean curiously crawling toward her, sniffing around her face and then looking down toward the half of her body hidden under the blanket.
“Meow~”
A powerful wave of embarrassment slammed into her.
This wasn’t just any cat! Black Bean was eventually going to turn into a cat girl!
It was basically like… she was acting all lewd in front of an innocent little girl…
Dazed and flushed, Ning Chu—though weak—managed to toss Black Bean off the bed.
No peeking!
That was when the door opened.
Wen Yang stepped inside, key in hand, carrying takeout containers. He walked in just in time to see Ning Chu frantically throwing Black Bean off the bed like she’d seen a ghost, then diving under the covers again—this time, not even her head poking out.
“…What’s going on? Are you up to something naughty?”
“……”
The room was thick with a subtle, sweet scent.
Wen Yang had barely closed the door… and his ‘gun’ was already cocked and ready to fire.
At this point, there was no way Ning Chu was coming out from under the blanket.
