Chapter 386 The Sacrificed Prodigy of the Mystic Sect (19)

As the countdown to the final year of high school shifted from three digits to two, Lin Yan welcomed a slightly longer holiday.

She decided to take a small break and went shopping. Her height had recently increased again, and many of her clothes no longer fit. So, she planned to buy some new outfits.

On the surface, Lin Yan was shopping alone, but by her side was Wei Wan Ru, a ghost of a hundred years.

Lin Yan picked out quite a few clothes and shoes for herself. Since she was in her final year of high school, she prioritized simple, practical items that were easy to move in. Besides shopping for herself, she also bought some clothes for Wei Wan Ru.

Just as Lin Yan was carrying her purchases back, someone from behind bumped into her shoulder, knocking several of the bags she was holding to the ground.

The person who bumped into her didn't stop to apologize and continued walking forward, seemingly in a daze.

Lin Yan realized something was wrong. The intersection was not far ahead, and the light was red, prohibiting passage.

She no longer bothered with the things on the ground and quickly moved forward. The moment the person stepped off the sidewalk, she grabbed them.

The next second, a car sped past, narrowly missing them.

The person she had pulled seemed to snap back to reality. Looking at the speeding car, a wave of fear washed over them.

"Are you alright?" a gentle girlish voice came from beside her. Only then did she realize it was the young girl next to her who had pulled her.

She shook her head. "I'm fine. Thank you, little sister."

Looking at what Lin Yan was holding and the shopping bags discarded on the ground, she quickly went to pick them up for her.

Lin Yan followed her. "Sister, you seem to be feeling unwell. Would you like to go to the hospital?"

"I've been. There's nothing wrong. The doctor told me to rest more." After picking up the bags, she handed them to Lin Yan.

"Then you should go home quickly. It's dangerous for you to be out like this."

"I'll head back now. Did I bump into you just now? I'm sorry!"

"It's alright, it didn't hurt. Sister, you should go home quickly." Lin Yan slipped a talisman into a gap in her bag.

"Then I'll be going." After saying that, she changed direction and left.

Lin Yan crossed the road when the light turned green.

"Yan Yan, that person just now?" Wei Wan Ru looked in the direction the woman had left, her brow furrowed tightly. She felt something unsettling about that woman.

Lin Yan didn't look that way. "Yes, there was something not quite right about her."

A chance encounter, Lin Yan couldn't directly tell her she was a celestial master who could help. That would just make her seem like a骗子.

But she couldn't just stand by and do nothing, so she placed a peace charm on her.

"Has the frequency of supernatural incidents in the city been a bit too high lately? Sister Wei, could you go to the bureau tonight and ask for me? I feel like something is off."

Lin Yan wasn't sure if her intuition was correct, but she had encountered quite a few things recently. Some could be resolved with just a talisman, and she tried her best not to alarm the people involved.

For those that took a bit longer, she reported them directly to the bureau.

But why? Compared to a few years ago, nothing seemed special. Why had supernatural events increased so much?

"I also feel that the Yin energy has seemed to thicken recently," Wei Wan Ru said. "But it's almost May next month. Logically, the Yang energy should be stronger. With such a large population in the city, no ghost would want to stay here."

"There's nothing new under the sun. Some ghosts might simply not want to stay in desolate places."

She placed the bags in her hands on the ground and then hailed a taxi to go home.

Night. A strange sensation from the burning talisman woke Lin Yan from her sleep.

This talisman was one she had just given away today. Because she was very worried about that woman, she had left a trace of her spiritual sense on the talisman.

"Sister Wei," Lin Yan immediately called out to Wei Wan Ru. Wei Wan Ru knew what was happening and quickly emerged, nodded, and then disappeared from Lin Yan's bedroom.

Lin Yan also immediately got out of bed and prepared to get dressed to go out.

Aunt Zhou was also woken by the commotion. "Yan Yan, what's happening?"

"Aunt Zhou, I'm going out for a bit." Lin Yan packed her small bag.

"It's so late..." Aunt Zhou was a little disapproving. Although Lin Yan was capable, she was still just a child.

"The situation is urgent. I probably won't be back for breakfast tomorrow morning, so you don't need to prepare any for me." Lin Yan slung her packed bag over her shoulder and ran out.

Aunt Zhou watched her rush out in such a hurry, sighed, and then began tidying up the things Lin Yan left behind.

When Lin Yan, using her connection to Wei Wan Ru, found her, she saw the woman who had bumped into her earlier sitting by the roadside in a disheveled state.

She hugged her knees, curled herself into a ball, rested her chin on her knees, and had dried tears on her face.

Lin Yan walked up to her and offered her a tissue.

"It's you. I have to thank you again." Taking the tissue, she recognized the somewhat familiar face and finally felt a little relieved.

"Why are you here? It's so late. This isn't a time for good girls to be out," she managed a smile.

"I came for you. The one over there is my Sister Wei. I asked her to come and help you first." Lin Yan pointed towards a figure in the distance.

Following Lin Yan's direction, she saw another beautiful face. She was wearing a long dress and stood on the other side of the road.

However, this beauty's feet were not touching the ground. Recalling the scene of this beauty fighting with a ghost earlier, she found it hard to believe that the gentle person standing there now was connected to the one she saw moments ago.

"She... she's not human, is she?" she asked cautiously. "And you?"

"Don't worry, I'm human. So, tell me, what exactly happened to you? Why were you here so late at night? Didn't you say you were going home to rest this afternoon?" Lin Yan looked at the disbelieving person in front of her and mused that her reaction seemed a bit slow.

"So, this world really has ghosts? The one I saw tonight was a ghost?" She didn't answer Lin Yan's question but, upon hearing that Lin Yan was human, began to ask if what she had encountered was indeed a ghost.

"Didn't you see it yourself?" Lin Yan waved, signaling for Wei Wan Ru to come closer.

Wei Wan Ru walked over from the other side of the road. To say she walked would be an understatement; she floated.

The woman watched Wei Wan Ru float over from the opposite side, her eyes blinking and her face filled with surprise and curiosity at the strange sight.
