Chapter 66 The White Moonlight of the Melodramatic Male Lead (6)

Lin's mother wasn't unwilling to hire a caregiver; she simply wanted to personally tend to her daughter.

However, the caregiver Lu Yi hired was more professional, even possessing a nutritionist's certificate. Thus, Lin's mother didn't refuse.

She insisted on paying the caregiver's wages herself, refusing to let Lu Yi bear the cost.

Lin Yan stayed in the hospital for two weeks. After undergoing chemotherapy, doctors stated her condition had improved and she could be discharged to recuperate for a period.

After all, her body couldn't withstand the toll of continuous chemotherapy.

The first thing Lin Yan did upon returning home was to take a low-grade gene optimization fluid.

The reaction this time was more pronounced than the previous one. However, as it was a medicine formulated for children under ten, she didn't experience any particularly uncomfortable sensations.

Yet, she could feel the gene optimization fluid mending her body, which had been ravaged by chemotherapy.

Lin Yan suddenly felt that perhaps she wouldn't need the heroine's bone marrow.

With the help of the gene optimization fluid and the effects of chemotherapy, she believed she could control her illness.

But if that were the case, how would she find the heroine and reunite with her?

So, she still had to let the male lead find the heroine, and then have the heroine donate bone marrow to her?

No, she absolutely didn't want to cause any further entanglement between the male and female leads.

Lost in thought, Lin Yan drifted off to sleep.

The next day, upon waking, Lin Yan felt a sense of lightness in her body.

She stretched, and though still feeling somewhat weak, she was much better than before.

Lin Yan stood before the bathroom mirror, gazing at her own pale reflection.

This was the first time she had examined this face so closely.

It was a gentle face, with delicate brows and a pair of innocent, almond-shaped eyes. Below her small, upturned nose were pale cherry lips.

Currently, in her weakened state, her illness added a layer of fragility to this innocence.

It made one unwilling to be harsh, and loath to see her frown.

What an innocent face! Such a face, even when committing some transgression, would make one reluctant to scold.

Lin Yan tried to furrow her brow, and her reflection in the mirror was instantly clouded with a light sorrow.

A pure, innocent, gentle flower – this persona was rather good. Lin Yan had never tried this before.

She adjusted the wig on her head and then chose a long dress.

As she stepped out of the bedroom, Lin Yan saw the breakfast prepared for her on the table.

She ate, contemplating her schedule for the day.

Lin's father and mother had returned home, but they had rented an apartment for Lin Yan in the capital and hired a nanny to care for her.

Lin's mother was reluctant to leave, but her company had been pressing her. She had already returned to hand over her work and was now back to look after Lin Yan.

Lin's father had returned to work, as Lin Yan's subsequent medical expenses would be substantial, and they couldn't both stay by her side.

She probably wouldn't be able to return to her original school. After all, her current health condition was not conducive to attending classes.

The original Lin Yan would have been a third-year student upon starting the new academic year. However, Lin Yan had little interest in literature.

So, she was considering whether to continue her leave of absence and eventually obtain a degree, or to withdraw entirely.

She still wanted to study medicine, and was currently researching related information, looking for a suitable school and major.

Lin Yan called her parents to discuss her academic plans.

"Yan Yan, didn't you always want to be a writer? Didn't you even major in literature for that very purpose?"

Her daughter had even specifically studied screenwriting to become a writer, which showed how much she loved it.

"Yes, Yan Yan. You're already in your third year; you'll graduate soon. Changing now?"

"Mom, Dad, I've thought it through clearly. I haven't said I'm giving up on writing. It's just that this illness has made me feel a lot."

"I want to study medicine. Even if I don't achieve much, I still want to learn. I want to help more people like me."

Lin's father and mother knew their daughter was very kind and understood that she had witnessed many people suffering from illness.

It was normal for her to consider studying medicine, but they wondered if her health could withstand the rigors of medical school.

"Yan Yan, even if you want to study, you should wait until your health improves," Lin's mother said.

"Exactly, Yan Yan. You can look through some basic textbooks. Once you're feeling better, we'll apply to medical school. I have a few friends in the medical system," Lin's father added.

"I can help you get an in through them, so you can start learning. For now, your priority is to rest, eat well, and recover your health!" Lin's father advised.

"Yan Yan, I'll come and stay with you in the capital in a few days after I've finished handing over my work," Lin's mother continued.

"Okay, Mom. I'm fine here; you don't need to rush," Lin Yan said considerately.

Lin Yan understood her parents' concern. Lin's father and mother had always been very accommodating to the original Lin Yan, letting her pursue whatever she wished.

Their reluctance for her to study medicine this time was also for her well-being, as she was still a leukemia patient undergoing chemotherapy.

Meanwhile, Lin's mother chided Lin's father, "How could you agree to Yan Yan studying medicine? It's so tiring!"

"Let Yan Yan study if she wants to. After all, we don't know if her illness can be cured. We should at least let her live comfortably," Lin's father said in a low voice, but Lin's mother heard him clearly.

"Even if her illness is cured, we'll still let her study. Besides, studying medicine doesn't necessarily mean becoming a doctor. She could study pharmacology or something similar," he reasoned.

"It's not that tiring. With Yan Yan's current health, she couldn't be a surgeon or any other extremely demanding type of doctor."

Lin's father explained to his wife that he was already planning to ask his friends about less demanding specializations.

If their daughter wanted to study, they would let her. They only had this one daughter, and no matter what, they could support her.

"You're right. I also can't bear to go against Yan Yan's wishes. Last time, in the general ward when Yan Yan was first admitted, there was a little girl with the same illness."

"She was such a sensible child; it was heartbreaking to see. I suppose Yan Yan wants to study medicine because of them."

Lin's mother wiped away a tear. Because of Lin Yan's illness, in the past month, she had cried more than in the previous few years combined.

"Why wouldn't she be a match? If she were a match, we could do a bone marrow transplant for Yan Yan," Lin's mother said, her heart aching.

Their relatives had all been tested for compatibility, but none of them were a match for Lin Yan.

"Old Lin, tell me, if we could find Qian Qian, could she be a match for Yan Yan?" Lin's mother suddenly thought of their lost daughter.

"But Qian Qian has been missing for so many years. We haven't stopped looking, but we haven't found her."

They had been searching for their daughter, and the missing person posters were still in the newspapers.
