Chapter 498: Chapter 498: Becoming His Stepmom (2)

Anya Forrest hummed and looked at Raymond Thorne askance: "Don’t think I didn’t catch that you’re making fun of me."

"How could I? I was clearly praising our Anya. In my heart, Anya, you are the most outstanding woman. I thought you would handle such small scenes with grace and poise."

Anya Forrest rolled her eyes at Raymond Thorne: "If it were strangers or insignificant people, I could naturally be graceful and composed. But this person is different; he’s a very important friend of yours."

Raymond Thorne was momentarily stunned. Once he understood the meaning behind Anya’s words, he couldn’t help but smile, and there was an added warmth in his gaze as he looked at Anya.

Anya seemed unaware of Raymond’s gaze and said with a troubled expression: "I need to be dignified, I need to be generous, I need to be elegant."

Raymond Thorne chuckled, just about to console Anya when he heard someone call out from a distance: "Thorne, there you are! Have you been hiding at home recently, working on something? We haven’t been able to meet up."

"Well, isn’t it because you’ve recently had a baby? I didn’t want to disturb you." Raymond continued chatting with his friend when he noticed Anya had already followed along.

During his conversation with his friend Brandon Archer, she stood there smiling, neither hurried nor slow.

When he introduced Brandon to Anya, she was gentle and courteous, giving him just the right amount of face while not losing her composure.

Raymond watched her, feeling increasingly heated inside.

After chatting with Brandon for a while, they started to play golf.

While engrossed in the game, he suddenly heard Anya’s exclamation. He looked up to see Anya rushing toward him.

Raymond was suddenly a little unhappy; he had just said that Anya was sensible, but now she seemed about to embarrass him.

Could it be that a girl from such a humble background is ultimately overwhelmed by the dazzling glitz?

These thoughts flashed through Raymond’s mind, and just as he was about to say something, he suddenly sensed something was wrong.

Anya’s expression was too panicked, and her refined face had turned distorted.

Instinctively turning, he saw the waiter who had been attending on the side suddenly extracting a fruit knife, lunging at his back.

It was too late when he noticed; the waiter had already rushed in front of him, and he could even see the gleam of joy in the attacker’s eyes at the prospect of success.

Raymond’s face turned pale, and just as he thought he would meet his end, a delicate body dashed forward, shielding him.

Thud—

Raymond almost heard the sound of the knife slicing through flesh, and it wasn’t his.

The waiter, having missed the first strike, viciously raised the knife, ready to stab again.

However, due to the previous interference, others on the golf course had reacted and rushed over, subduing the attacking waiter.

Even as he was apprehended, the waiter still struggled and yelled ferociously: "Brandon Archer, you ruined my family! You will die a horrible death!"

The voice filled with resentment and malevolence sent chills through everyone’s hearts.

However, Raymond couldn’t care about any of that right now. He held Anya tightly, who had shielded him.

Her petite, exquisite face was pale, covered with cold sweat from pain, yet the first thing she asked was: "Thorne, are you okay? You’re not hurt, right?"

Raymond’s face was trembling: "I’m fine."

"That’s good." Anya let out a sigh of relief, showing a satisfied smile: "It’s great that you’re not hurt."

"What’s so great? It’s not great at all! Do you know you almost lost your life?"

Anya smiled and said: "But you’re okay."

"You..." Suddenly, Raymond felt a lump in his throat, his heart swelling with something unspeakable. His previous scrutiny of Anya vanished entirely at this moment, leaving only an overwhelming feeling, ready to overflow.
