Chapter 4 The Pheasant Becomes a Phoenix

The bald man was shocked, but in the next second, he found himself spinning halfway in the air, a sharp pain in his abdomen, and finally fell heavily to the floor.

"Kid, you'll pay for your ignorance." The bald man glared at Ye Bufan with fierce eyes.

Ye Bufan walked up to the bald man and said, "I never intended to fulfill the engagement. I came to the Liu family just to get back the jade pendant my master left me, and to break off the engagement. Was I wrong? All along, it was the Liu family who thought I, a poor boy from the mountains, would cling to them."

The bald man looked at Ye Bufan and smiled hatefully.

"Kid, it seems you still don't understand. You haven't just offended the Liu family; you've also offended the Yang family. You're walking a dead end."

As the bald man's smile grew more sinister, Ye Bufan formed a sword seal with his hand, unleashing a stream of sword energy that pierced the bald man's forehead. The bald man looked at Ye Bufan with disbelief, and his life instantly extinguished.

"Come out. Do you want me to personally invite you?"

Ye Bufan stood with his hands behind his back. Outside the door, another figure appeared: an old man in his sixties or seventies, wearing a long gown, with a goatee, and a hint of hypocrisy on his face.

"I didn't realize you were a martial artist," the elder said.

In fact, Ye Bufan had detected his presence the moment he appeared. However, Ye Bufan didn't consider the man's strength a threat.

"If you have something to say, say it. If you have something to fart, fart it," Ye Bufan said.

"It's very simple. Hand over the marriage contract, and I'll spare your life."

The elder stroked his goatee, giving off an air of unfathomable depth.

"If you want the marriage contract, tell them to come and get it themselves," Ye Bufan said.

"Kid, it seems Guang Tou Qiang didn't make it clear to you. You've offended the Yang family. You're already a martial artist at such a young age, and your future is limitless. But the Yang family also has several high-level martial artists who, in their eyes, can make you disappear from this world with ease." The elder spoke in a tone of an elder lecturing a junior, as if advising him earnestly.

"Are you one of those high-level martial artists?" Ye Bufan asked dismissively.

"You arrogant brat, I don't have time for your nonsense. Where is the marriage contract?"

Seeing Ye Bufan's arrogant demeanor, the elder became somewhat angry. He had been injured in his youth, causing him to remain at the peak of intermediate martial arts and unable to break through to high-level martial arts. Ye Bufan's words were undoubtedly mocking him.

"It's here." Ye Bufan held the marriage contract in his hand. "If you have the guts, come and get it."

"You impudent child, you're courting death!" the elder snorted, considering Ye Bufan's words a provocation. He was determined to make Ye Bufan pay.

The elder lunged forward. Ye Bufan pushed back. The elder's fist, accompanied by a whistling sound, aimed for Ye Bufan's heart. Ye Bufan extended his left hand and caught the elder's punch with his palm.

"Hmph!" The elder's expression changed slightly. He felt as if his punch had landed on cotton. The moment it touched Ye Bufan's palm, his force was completely diffused.

"Meteor Leg!"

Seeing this, the elder lunged towards Ye Bufan's neck again.

Ye Bufan smiled slightly, formed a sword seal, and met the elder's leg. True qi flowed through his sword finger and entered the elder's leg upon contact, exploding instantly. The elder's leg bent sharply at a ninety-degree angle.

"Bang—"

"Ah—" The elder let out a scream of pain.

He couldn't believe that this young man had defeated him with just one move. The only thought in the elder's mind was to escape.

"Those who seek my life, I shall slay them all," Ye Bufan said coldly, his feet moving to appear before the elder.

"I'll fight you to the death!" The elder clapped his hands together and threw dozens of punches in rapid succession, each one sounding like "pa pa" and carrying a powerful force.

Ye Bufan waved his hand, sending the elder flying backward to the ground.

"It's my turn to make a move," Ye Bufan said with a smile.

The elder struggled to get up, his eyes filled with terror. He couldn't comprehend why such a young person could be so formidable.

"Ye Bufan, the Yang family won't let you go. Let me go, give me the marriage contract, and I can plead with the Yang family to spare you," the elder said, fearfully backing away.

Ye Bufan, however, approached him step by step. Finally, with nowhere left to retreat, Ye Bufan placed a palm on the elder's head, and the elder breathed his last.

"The Yang family. The Liu family. I didn't expect you to try and kill me for a mere marriage contract," Ye Bufan sneered. "Master was truly blind to have saved your Liu family back then."

As Ye Bufan spoke, he extended his right hand. True qi transformed into a ball of purple flame and swept over the six corpses on the ground. In an instant, all the bodies turned to dust.

The next morning, Chu Mengyao arrived at the hotel to find Ye Bufan.

When she saw the door to Ye Bufan's room, she was somewhat taken aback.

"Are you planning to tear down the hotel?" Chu Mengyao asked.

Ye Bufan explained with some embarrassment, "People from the Liu family came last night, and there was a bit of a conflict."

"Conflict?" Chu Mengyao frowned slightly. "Does the Liu family think they're so great just because they've hitched themselves to the Yang family? How dare they cause trouble in our Chu family's hotel?"

As she spoke, Chu Mengyao suddenly thought of something.

"Your fiancée, she wouldn't happen to be Liu Ruoyan, would she?" Chu Mengyao asked.

Ye Bufan nodded and asked, "What's wrong?"

"The second young master of the Yang family is already engaged to Liu Ruoyan. Families like ours place great importance on reputation. If the Yang family finds out that Liu Ruoyan has an engagement with you, they will definitely cancel the engagement with the Liu family. In that case, the Liu family will stop at nothing." Chu Mengyao said.

Yesterday, Chu He had just woken up, and Chu Mengyao's attention was still on her grandfather. At the time, she hadn't thought much about Ye Bufan's situation. Now, it seemed the matter was much more complicated than she had imagined.

"It's alright. I'll take you to my home to see my grandfather. He said he wants to thank you in person," Chu Mengyao said. "You are grandfather's benefactor. I believe my grandfather will definitely help you."

With that, Chu Mengyao took Ye Bufan's arm and drove him to the Chu family villa in her car.

"Wait for me downstairs. I'll go to the room to find my grandfather." Chu Mengyao personally poured Ye Bufan a glass of water and went upstairs.

At this moment, after seeing Chu Mengyao go upstairs, Chu Qianceng walked into the hall from the backyard.

Chu Qianceng scanned Ye Bufan and then sat in the host's seat on the sofa, crossing his legs.

"Kid, I'm warning you, don't have any improper thoughts about our family," Chu Qianceng said abruptly. "When the old man thanks you later, take whatever he gives you. But if you dare to have any improper thoughts, I don't mind there being one more dead person in this world."

Ye Bufan looked at Chu Qianceng and frowned slightly.

"I really don't understand you rich people. Why are you always so self-righteous, always thinking someone is after your family?" Ye Bufan said lightly.

Chu Qianceng looked up at Ye Bufan and asked, "Isn't it? You were just a beggar who knew a little medicine yesterday, and today you've become our Chu family's 'savior'?"

Ye Bufan looked at Chu Qianceng. Chu Qianceng emphasized the words 'savior' heavily, but Ye Bufan was too lazy to argue.

As they were talking, Chu Mengyao came downstairs and said, "Ye Bufan, grandfather wants to see you upstairs."

Ye Bufan and Chu Qianceng exchanged a look. Chu Qianceng said to Ye Bufan, "Go ahead. The old man is waiting for you."

After Ye Bufan left, Chu Qianceng snorted dismissively, "A beggar, trying to become a phoenix by using my Chu family? Don't even dream about it."
