Chapter 225: No. 9 Mental Sanitarium

Chapter 225: Chapter 225: No. 9 Mental Sanitarium

It felt like Grandpa Hawthorne’s words had another meaning, but Ann Vaughn couldn’t guess what it was at the moment.

Is trusting your own eyes and ears too much a bad thing?

Ann Vaughn couldn’t figure it out, so she simply set it aside and called Sutton Jennings.

"Brother Shane, can you help me check if there are any place names or locations in The Imperial Capital that use the number 9?"

"Number 9? That should be referring to the No. 9 Mental Sanitarium." Sutton Jennings only thought for a moment before arriving at the answer, "People in the circle just call it No. 9. What’s up?"

"A mental sanitarium?" Ann Vaughn was a bit surprised, recalling the content of that text message. Who had the potential to regain consciousness?

Moreover, the text message was careful to only mention the No. 9 Mental Sanitarium without naming the person, showing that this wasn’t just anybody.

Instinctively, Ann Vaughn felt that inside No. 9 lay the answer she had long sought.

"Did you see something, or did someone mention this place to you?" Sutton Jennings didn’t rush her, and only asked after a while.

"No, I only know about this place now, nothing else is very clear." Ann Vaughn turned her car around and got on the highway, "I’ll be home in an hour, we can talk then."

Sutton Jennings agreed, thinking that the dish he was cooking was almost ready to be served, said, "I just tried making a new dish, you can taste it when you get back to see if it passes."

A new dish?!!

Ann Vaughn almost choked on her own saliva, her mouth twitching, but she didn’t want to dampen Sutton Jennings’ enthusiasm, "Sure, I’ll taste it carefully."

Hopefully, there’s still some antidote left at home.

On the other side.

Looking at the mess in the kitchen, the normally proud Little Dumpling showed a look of utter despair for the first time, "Uncle Jennings, you really are a kitchen disaster."

"Your mommy won’t be back for another hour, there’s still time to clean up." Sutton Jennings shrugged helplessly, thinking that the Michelin chef he hired didn’t really teach him much.

The steps were clearly the same, so why was the result so different?

Little Dumpling’s small mouth twitched. If in the future, mommy were to bring home a stepdad, he had better know how to cook.

Otherwise, when he went to school, who would ensure that his mommy wouldn’t go hungry?

In any case, which man in this world could compare to him, Kenny?

Sigh, no man is reliable, only Kenny can support his dear mommy.

When Ann Vaughn returned to the apartment, the kitchen was cleaned spotless, with no trace of the earlier explosion.

Seeing that Sutton Jennings had made some kind of crispy fried fish, Ann Vaughn chuckled, "Ahem, Brother Shane, it’s not that I don’t want to give you face, but I accidentally fell into the water last night, and my fever just broke this morning, so I’m prohibited from eating this."

Fell into the water?

Sutton Jennings’ charming eyes slightly hardened, "What happened?"

"Just a little accident, it’s over now." Ann Vaughn didn’t go into the details and laughed it off, "Brother Shane, your cooking skills have really improved, really."

"Don’t mock me, I know my capabilities when it comes to cooking."

Sutton Jennings shrugged helplessly, the overhead light casting a homey glow on his mature, charming face.

"Mommy, Kenny cooked some preserved egg and lean pork congee. Do you want some?" Kenny had just taken out the trash from the kitchen so he didn’t hear what Ann Vaughn said earlier.

"Sure, mommy’s been driving for almost two hours, I’m hungry." Even though Ann Vaughn had eaten a lot at the villa, she was still craving for Kenny’s cooking skills.

The little one’s perfect culinary skills were essentially a replica of hers.

But Ann Vaughn worried he was too young and might get hurt, so she didn’t let him into the kitchen often.

Kenny trotted over to bring Ann Vaughn a big bowl of congee and pushed Sutton Jennings aside, claiming his spot next to her.

Sutton Jennings: "..." He seemed to finally understand why, for so many years, despite liking handsome men, Ann Vaughn hadn’t dated anyone.

This soft, cute little child was the biggest obstacle for any man wanting to pursue Ann Vaughn.

"Mommy, the school will have a parent-child sports day on Friday. Will you be going?" Kenny pushed some refreshing side dishes to Ann Vaughn, asking in a baby voice.

"Don’t worry, even if it’s hailing or there’s a flood, nothing will stop mommy from attending."

Kenny hummed, rubbing his little chin thoughtfully, "Actually, Kenny would rather mommy stay home and sleep more. Attending these parent meetings isn’t really necessary."

Mommy works too hard.

Even I find dealing with that man troublesome, let alone my gentle, fragile mommy?

Ann Vaughn reached out and ruffled his little head, smiling warmly, "Even if you say that, if I check your school bag later and find you haven’t finished your homework, your little butt won’t be spared."

Kenny: "Eeek!"

Once Kenny dashed off, Sutton Jennings sat on a high stool nearby and pushed the USB flash drive to Ann Vaughn.

"I’ve checked it, there’s nothing useful inside, but the protection system on it is almost top-notch, and it even has anti-tracking software. Seems like it’s just a decoy."

This USB drive was something Ann Vaughn had retrieved from Cyrus Hawthorne’s study safe, with three layers of password protection, only to safeguard a decoy.

Ann Vaughn couldn’t help but laugh with a hint of anger, "That’s really cautious."

But it also indicated that something unspeakable was indeed hidden within the QY Research Institute.

"I’ll investigate this matter. You should stay out of it to avoid any danger." Sutton Jennings added.

"I’ll handle it carefully, don’t worry." Ann Vaughn finished her congee, exhaling, "Just help me get a pass for No. 9."

Her curiosity about No. 9 was no less than her interest in the institute.

It always felt like something was hidden there as well.

"Could you be suspecting that Hawthorne Corp. might be using the mental patients at No. 9 for experimental research?" Sutton Jennings squinted his eyes, "It’s not impossible."

Ann Vaughn shrugged, chuckling lightly, "Who knows? I’ll go take a look at the lab first." She said, preparing to leave.

"Oh, and one more thing. The Jubao Auction has sent you an invitation, wanting you to host tomorrow night’s auction. They offered compensation that you might find attractive."

"Invite me? Why?"

Sutton Jennings took the invitation from the shelf and handed it to her, explaining, "It seems the owner of Jubao has a favor to ask of you, and this is a way to openly give you a reward."

"I won’t go, besides, I’m not good at hosting such events..."
