Chapter 474: Chapter 474: Ann Vaughn’s Biological Brother
Kenny’s eyes were as red as a rabbit’s, his small mouth stubbornly pursed tightly, and his big eyes were filled with deep disappointment as he looked at Cyrus.
Not just disappointment at Cyrus, but at himself too.
It felt as if Cyrus’s heart was pierced by a sharp knife; his throat stirred slightly, and after a long pause, he spoke with difficulty, "I’m sorry."
"I’m sorry too." Kenny sniffed his red little nose, looked at Ann Vaughn lying in the hospital bed, his soft, cute face filled with loss, "It’s all my fault for not being strong enough."
Upon hearing this, Cyrus raised his hand to rub Kenny’s head, a flicker of heartache passed through his narrow eyes, "Good boy."
If only he could have woken up sooner, or seen Kenny being blocked outside the door earlier, perhaps, the outcome would have been different.
But just as Breeze had said, if it weren’t for this crisis, the broken child grass inside Ann Vaughn would have been discovered even later, then even if the Daluo Immortals came, they couldn’t save her life.
And now, there remains a sliver of hope, yet their unborn child’s life is used to pay for it—
Even if Cyrus were to tear the culprit behind all this into pieces, it wouldn’t extinguish his hatred!
Just then, Kenny’s phone suddenly rang, and at this moment, it turned out to be Eli Sheridan calling.
Kenny sniffled his little nose, then walked to the door, answered in a low voice, "Uncle Elliot, do you need something? Kenny is a bit busy right now."
"Could you please pass the phone to Cyrus? Uncle Elliot has something to say to him." Eli Sheridan said warmly.
"Alright." Kenny then handed the phone to Cyrus, telling him, "It’s Uncle Eli’s call."
A trace of sarcasm flashed in Cyrus’s narrow eyes as he took the phone, lowered his voice to instruct Kenny, "Go lie on the bed and get a good sleep, take care of your energy, don’t let your mommy see you like this and worry when she wakes up."
If Cyrus hadn’t said this, Kenny might have stayed by Ann Vaughn’s bedside waiting for her to wake up.
But when he said this, Kenny pondered for a while, then obediently followed the advice, no longer keeping vigil, and climbed onto the nearby hospital bed to sleep.
Seeing this, Cyrus closed the door to the ward with a flick of his wrist and said in a deep voice, "If it’s about Cynthia Sheridan, you need not bother."
Eli Sheridan was silent for two seconds, "No matter what, it’s a no?"
"You should understand clearly that your years of care and attention for Ann Vaughn have already exhausted the conditions for Cynthia Sheridan’s release. That’s why you called Kenny’s phone, because you know."
Otherwise, he wouldn’t be so aware of him not answering the phone and would have called Kenny’s instead.
If it were anyone else, that would be one thing, but this was Ann’s biological brother.
Yet he didn’t care about Ann Vaughn’s life or death, only fixated on his fake sister, what a fine sibling!
"After all, Cynthia is my sister." Eli Sheridan’s eternally gentle tone became slightly strained, infused with a sigh, "Whether you believe it or not, she really can’t get into trouble."
"According to you, Ann Vaughn can?" Cyrus’s lips curled into a cold smile, "Eli Sheridan, even bias needs a limit, lest you regret it someday."
With that, he was about to hang up.
However, Eli Sheridan seemed to have anticipated this and immediately stopped him, "Wait, I have one more thing to say."
"Speak."
"You must have heard, our Sheridan Family has countless ancient and astonishing legends behind it. So, surely you’ve heard of the story of The Mermaid Princess, right?" Eli Sheridan said, "If you haven’t, feel free to check it out, then you’ll naturally understand my intention."
The Mermaid Princess again.
Cyrus’s thin lips tugged slightly in indifference, then he hung up the phone, turned back into the ward.
Whether what Eli Sheridan said was true or not, he would have someone investigate thoroughly.
But if he wanted a completely unscathed Cynthia Sheridan, ha, then it was a mere daydream.
Far away in the luxurious Sheridan Family mansion in Marinia, Eli Sheridan surely knew this too and couldn’t help but feel sorry for Ann Vaughn’s plight.
But compared to The Mermaid Princess, he had to endure, steadfastly endure, only then could he achieve complete victory in the future.
...
Three days later.
The curtains, illuminated by sunlight, were gently stirred by the breeze, and the room was filled with a refreshing scent of daisies and some unnamed fragrance.
It was amidst these soothing aromas that Ann Vaughn regained consciousness and woke up.
Her temples were still throbbing with pain, her entire body felt like it had been run over by a truck, aching and weak, making her unable to muster any strength, her mouth parched to the point of almost catching fire.
"Water... water..."
Someone heard her call, helped her sit up, and handed a straw to her lips, a voice suppressed with delight sounded, "Drink slowly."
Ann Vaughn felt water was such a wonderful thing, sweet and refreshing, soothing the dryness and slight pain in her throat, rejuvenating her entire body.
After drinking cup after cup, Ann Vaughn finally wasn’t thirsty anymore, leaned back against the person behind her, relaxed for a while, her muddled mind gradually cleared.
When she saw this tired, haggard yet still handsome face in front of her, she froze for quite a while, then reached out to touch the stubble on his chin and couldn’t help but laugh.
"Why do you look so ragged?"
Due to just waking up, her voice was weak and soft, that pair of eyes carrying a gentle smile.
It was the only color in the world that had been shrouded in gloom for days.
Cyrus raised his hand to cup her face, pressing his thin lips against her pale lips, but it wasn’t as aggressively possessive as usual, rather tender beyond belief.
It was like he was kissing something lost and found again, cherishingly and fondly.
Though just awakened with little energy, Ann Vaughn still felt her heart beating wildly, along with the piercing heat in her earlobes that spread to her cheeks, embarrassedly wanting to shrink back.
Why did he act like he hadn’t seen her for a lifetime?
She shouldn’t have been unconscious for long, right?
Soon, Cyrus released Ann Vaughn’s flushed cheeks and drew her into his arms, his arms tightly wrapped around her shoulders and waist.
"By the way, how long have I slept?" Ann Vaughn waited for her heartbeat to calm before she asked.
"Three days." Cyrus gently stroked the top of her fluffy hair and replied hoarsely.
In fact, it was four days.
She merely fell down the stairs and ended up being unconscious for this long?!
Ann Vaughn frowned slightly, feeling that she had overlooked something.
For instance, she remembered staring up at the top of the stairs before passing out. Why was she looking up there?
Also, she remembered her stomach hurt really badly, with a sense of panic...
Wait!
Could it be?!
Ann Vaughn’s whole body shivered, she immediately sat up and checked her pulse, but—
Aside from a weak body and slight concussion, there was nothing significant.
"Scared me to death," Ann Vaughn flipped like a salted fish in Cyrus’s arms, wanting to sprinkle some salt on herself as she complained, "At that time, I felt like my belly was hurting so badly, I almost thought I had a miscarriage."
