Chapter 508: Chapter 508: Showing No Regard for the Entire Vaughn Family

Yet before her hand could touch Ann Vaughn, Ann countered, grabbing her arm and easily pushing her aside, then getting out of bed herself.

"You may not believe it, but I really have no idea why I ended up sleeping in your bed. I’m sorry if it caused you trouble," Ann explained with a slight frown. "However, you didn’t have to throw water on me without any explanation. We’re even."

She clearly remembered falling asleep on the living room sofa; how did she end up in this woman’s room?

Fortunately, her clothes were still properly worn, indicating she was safe last night.

It seemed very likely that Ian Vaughn had seen her sleeping soundly and had someone move her to this room to rest and it happened to be this woman’s room, hence the misunderstanding...

But Brooke Ryan didn’t think it was a misunderstanding at all. Hearing Ann’s last words, she sneered, "You think we’re even just because you say so? You dirtied my bed and room, why should we be even?"

Seeing Ann casually tuck the wet hair behind her ear, revealing a flash of dazzling white skin, Brooke realized this maid’s face was strikingly beautiful.

If Xavier were to see her...

No way!

Brooke’s eyes turned cold, "Get out of Viridian Palace immediately, don’t wait for me to call someone to chase you out! And if you took anything from here, you better return it, don’t make me search you myself!"

Though Ann felt a bit embarrassed about sleeping in someone else’s bed, that bit of embarrassment was consumed by Brooke’s aggressive demeanor.

"If you really want an explanation, asking Ian Vaughn would be more direct than interrogating me here, and—" Ann raised her eyebrow, not taking Brooke seriously at all, "don’t take yourself too seriously."

Ann didn’t take Brooke’s combat strength seriously at all.

No matter who this woman was in Viridian Palace, she had no intention of suffering a loss or compromising herself.

Unexpectedly, Brooke directly translated Ann’s last words as "You’re nothing," assuming she was mocking her for pretending to be the Vaughn family’s eldest daughter, and immediately became furious out of shame.

"Vile creature!" Brooke raised her hand, attempting to slap Ann’s face hard, but Ann intercepted her halfway.

Ann applied a little pressure, and Brooke’s face twisted in pain, resentfully demanding to be released.

"While I’m still willing to talk civilly, you’d better not force me to use force." After warning Brooke, Ann released her hand.

Unexpectedly, the moment she was released, Brooke’s whole body seemed to be pushed hard, causing her to fall directly to the ground.

Ann: "..." Is she trying to frame me?

The next second, seeing the door open with Ian Vaughn and the butler coming in, Ann suddenly understood the meaning behind Brooke’s action.

Turns out... not only was she framed, she was also set up.

"Are you okay?" The thought had just arisen in Ann’s mind when she felt her arm gripped tightly by Ian, who looked at her with deep concern and visible exhaustion.

Ian had spent the entire night tossing and turning without sleep, and when friends sent investigative reports in the early morning, sleep was the last thing on his mind.

From the moment Ann was adopted by Old Master Vaughn up to the latest information, Ian reviewed the documents repeatedly for over five hours.

Without those documents, Ian might have self-deceptively thought Ann had a good life in those twenty years, even without them.

Yet all those assumptions were completely overturned by the documents, and the exposed truth was shocking.

The cherished and pampered little princess they wanted to spoil, those adoptive parents not only neglected her but also wanted to use her heart to replace their biological daughter’s—

The desk in Ian’s study, from midnight until morning, had gained countless cracks and was just replaced with a new one.

Also, Ian was worried Ann’s return was merely a Mirage, so he rushed over to see if she was still there.

As they approached the door and overheard the commotion inside, Ian, concerned, entered with the butler without knocking.

Sitting on the ground as if frozen in her fall, waiting for Ian to care for her, Brooke was shocked to the core when Ian bypassed her to approach the "maid."

Could Xavier have mistaken her identity?

Seeing Ann dazed and speechless with a somewhat endearing expression, Ian sighed internally, then took the large towel handed over by the butler and wrapped it around her. "Go wash up in the guest room; I’ll have someone prepare clothes for you."

"...Okay?" Ann was even more bewildered, feeling that Ian’s affectionate and pampering demeanor was inexplicably off.

What’s going on with him?

Did someone possess him??

Ann couldn’t help mumbling inwardly, but she couldn’t resist the cold seeping through her body, so she wrapped the towel tighter and prepared to leave.

Receiving no inquiry or caring words, Brooke stood up from the ground, blocking Ann’s way while pitifully complaining to Ian, "Xavier, this woman dirtied my bed, and when I reasoned with her, she pushed me!"

Is she addicted to framing people?

Ann’s lip twitched and she was about to retort, but Ian held her arm.

She realized then that she was in Viridian Palace; since this woman lived here, she had to be closely related to Ian’s family, and he surely wouldn’t want to embarrass his family for an outsider.

"Achoo!" As the thought crossed her mind, Ann suddenly sneezed, her whole body shivering.

Ian was about to say something; seeing Ann shivering all over, he immediately sent a message to the family doctor with his phone.

"Xavier, you need to throw her out. I suspect this maid, who knows where she came from, stole a lot of things from our family. We must thoroughly search her!" Brooke’s heart was secretly delighted when Ian didn’t defend Ann.

She thought, there’s no way a maid could have enough skill to earn Ian’s protection...

Hearing Brooke’s words, Ian paused just as he was anxiously about to leave with Ann. He looked at Brooke with a calm gaze.

"The entire Vaughn Family could be hers; do you mean to disregard me or the entire Vaughn Family by suggesting to throw her out?"
