Chapter 483: Chapter 483: Did Miss Vaughn Leave in Anger?
Sherry returned to the ward carrying food and noticed Cyrus Hawthorne was gone, speaking with some surprise: "That big statue finally decided to leave? During the time you were unconscious plus the last couple of days, he practically lived in this ward."
While placing the still-steaming food on the table, Sherry couldn’t help but gripe: "He did his office work on the sofa, slept on the spare hospital bed, and woke more punctually for your medication than an alarm clock... Oh, even if my steps were a bit loud coming in, I’d get the cold shoulder, truly pitiful."
Kenny is obviously his son, but one’s rigid and stern, and the other is soft and adorable. Besides the face, how do they resemble each other??
Ann Vaughn turned her head upon hearing the voice, her soft long hair cascading down, making her delicate face appear even smaller and paler.
She tugged at her lips, somehow thinking of that scene, feeling a bit like laughing, yet the bitterness in her heart surged uncontrollably.
No wonder she felt a familiar presence lingering around her even in her sleep, seemingly everywhere, warm and considerate.
"Thank you both for all you’ve done these past few days. Where’s Kenny?" Ann Vaughn reached out to pat her cheeks, hoping to look better when Kenny comes in later, so he wouldn’t worry.
"The little guy said he had something to do and would be back later." Sherry handed chopsticks to Ann Vaughn, "Eat up, you still can’t eat too spicy food; too... fainted for too long, eating something light is better."
Sherry almost slipped and mentioned "surgery," but fortunately held back in time.
"You don’t have to be so nervous, I’ve already found out." Seeing her cautious look, Ann Vaughn felt a small warmth, picked up a bite of shredded tofu and ate it.
Found out?!!
Sherry looked shocked, "Annie, how, how did you find out..."
Ann Vaughn then told Sherry what Mrs. Lynch had revealed to her, but she instinctively chose to hide the fact that she went to The Hawthorne Residence afterward.
She and Kenny had lived with Sherry for many years; though not family by blood, they were closer than that.
Sherry cared for her deeply, like a real elder.
So she didn’t want to let Sherry know about Cyrus Hawthorne’s decisions, so she wouldn’t form a negative impression of him.
Sherry hadn’t realized Ann Vaughn’s little secret, and after hearing, she slammed the table frustratedly and stood up, "How could there be such a heartless mother-in-law on Earth?! I thought you accidentally ate the broken child grass, yet it turns out it was a deliberate harm!"
"She didn’t like me from the moment I walked in," Ann Vaughn took a few sips of porridge, said self-deprecatingly, "Maybe we were born to be incompatible."
She still remembered Laura Quinn’s expression mixed with shock, disbelief, and hatred the first time she saw her.
All because she wasn’t the daughter-in-law of her choosing; she caused endless trouble and even poisoned her.
This was something Ann Vaughn truly couldn’t comprehend.
Sherry felt more and more distressed, holding Ann Vaughn’s hand and dissatisfiedly asked, "What about Mr. Hawthorne? Did he give you no explanation at all?"
"Him," Ann Vaughn’s energy suddenly relaxed, and she said faintly, "I don’t need his explanation; I’ll take back what’s rightfully mine myself."
No matter how Cyrus Hawthorne viewed that child, his final decision was to shelter Laura Quinn, leaving Ann Vaughn speechless.
But that was his choice, not hers.
She would personally seek justice for her child from Laura Quinn.
...
After a few days of rest, Ann Vaughn finally gained permission from Sherry and Kenny, the two adults, to be discharged from the hospital.
She purposely chose a time when Cyrus Hawthorne was at the company to pack her and Kenny’s belongings from No. 8 and move back to the Azure Gardens apartment.
Because of this, Sherry’s smile didn’t fade all day.
But Uncle Dexter, who learned from the maids that Ann Vaughn moved out her belongings from No. 8, was deeply worried.
What’s going on; did the young master do something morally wrong to anger Miss Vaughn away?!
Uncle Dexter immediately took out his phone and called Cyrus Hawthorne at Hawthorne Group Tower to alert him of this matter.
"Uncle Dexter, President Hawthorne is currently in a very important international meeting and cannot take calls; do you have any messages you’d like me to relay..."
The call was answered by Mark Joyce, who took the chance to grab some files, noticing the persistent ringing of Cyrus Hawthorne’s phone at his desk.
Concerned it might be something urgent, Mark Joyce decided to answer it himself.
"Still in a meeting!" Uncle Dexter suddenly felt pain in his long-cured old waist again, gasping, "His wife left because she’s mad, and he’s still in a meeting! Can meetings bring the wife back?!"
Miss Vaughn left in anger??
Mark Joyce was momentarily shocked, said, "I’ll pass the message," and turned to head to the meeting room.
The meeting was still ongoing, so when Mark Joyce entered, he took the chance to stand behind Cyrus Hawthorne and lowered his voice, saying, "President Hawthorne, Miss Vaughn, she..."
"We’ll discuss it later." Cyrus Hawthorne interrupted Mark Joyce indifferently and seamlessly continued the previous meeting content without a trace of distraction.
Mark Joyce, standing behind him, was stunned.
In the past, no matter how important the meeting or work, any issue concerning Miss Vaughn would make President Hawthorne drop it without hesitation.
It seemed like to President Hawthorne, Miss Vaughn was always the absolute priority, above anything, unbeatable.
But now...
Could it truly be as Uncle Dexter said, issues arose between President Hawthorne and Miss Vaughn, and Miss Vaughn moved away from No. 8 due to it?
After the meeting, Cyrus Hawthorne calmly returned to his office, allowing Mark Joyce to continue reporting.
Just as Mark Joyce assumed it was about Ann Vaughn, he was stopped after barely starting, with Cyrus Hawthorne coolly looking askance and tapping the pen lightly on the table twice, "Now is work time."
Mark Joyce immediately buckled down and continued with the progress of the important international meeting.
Saying it, Mark Joyce’s heart was weeping: it’s over, really over.
Who will rescue us overworked employees from the depths of despair now!?
In contrast to the low-pressure atmosphere there, Azure Gardens was full of warmth.
To celebrate Ann Vaughn’s discharge, Sherry specially made a big meal, leaving Ann Vaughn and Kenny sitting on the sofa simultaneously rubbing their tummies, overly satisfied.
Kenny, due to skipping class, was punished by the teacher with writing a twenty-word reflection letter.
But just those twenty words, he painstakingly wrote for an hour; if not for knowing otherwise, one might think he was writing a 200,000-word novel.
Ann Vaughn was so charmed by his struggling look that her heart seemed to spill red, laughing a few times; the phone on the table suddenly rang.
