Chapter 625: What I Hate Most Is Deception

Chapter 625: Chapter 625: What I Hate Most Is Deception

Not long after leaving, Evan Sawyer quickly returned, but his face didn’t look too good.

"I wonder where the ridiculous rumor came from in the past that I like men, and that my prior marriage and having a kid were a sham, leading to a divorce only when my ex-wife discovered the truth."

Cyrus Hawthorne naturally placed the cut portion of steak in front of Ann Vaughn and glanced at Evan Sawyer, whose face was full of anger, "So how is it?"

"I merely suspected so I casually bluffed her, and she ended up admitting everything." Evan Sawyer dejectedly sat down beside them, "She kept claiming it was for our future, but how’s slandering me with sexual violence accusations helping with that?!"

"I’ve been with her for so long and haven’t even kissed her because she said her mother wouldn’t allow anything before marriage!"

Pouring out his grievances, Evan Sawyer was about to slam the table when Cyrus Hawthorne lightly coughed, a warning hinted, "Mind your language."

Only then did Evan Sawyer remember Ann Vaughn’s presence and swallowed back the inappropriate words, "She pretends to be all gentle and weak in front of me—that’s nothing, using my money to support her useless, gambling brother, I’ve tolerated that because I could afford it."

"But deception is the thing I hate most."

Sitting across, Ann Vaughn was eating the steak Cyrus had cut for her and, after listening to Evan Sawyer’s woes, she mentally sighed, "Oh my,."

Willow White could be considered the most inspirational figure amongst Cinderella stories.

Look at her approach, what to do if you can’t snag the Prince? Just run through all the plans and schemes once.

What if you can’t marry into a wealthy family? Ruin the Prince’s reputation first so no one would dare marry him, then her chance comes.

After pouring out his frustration, Evan Sawyer suddenly realized he might have been intruding on a candlelight dinner.

"I’m sorry to have embarrassed you, ma’am." Evan Sawyer promptly stood and apologized to Ann Vaughn.

Why not apologize to Cyrus Hawthorne?

That would require questioning Evan Sawyer’s sharp intuition.

"It’s fine, your story..." Ann Vaughn waved her hand slightly, pondered, and then said, "was very appetizing, I even had an extra serving of fruit salad."

Cyrus Hawthorne suddenly let out a soft chuckle, his indifferent expression momentarily softened.

Evan Sawyer: "..." Is she some kind of queen of deadpan humor??

Why does everything she says make him not want to live anymore?

...

With eyes red, Willow White left the western restaurant with her girlfriends who had been waiting outside. Only after much consolation did she calm down.

Though the breakup with Evan Sawyer caused her significant loss, she had gained a lot from him as well.

Evan Sawyer didn’t ask for the things he gave her back after the split.

As long as she utilized those things well, she believed she could attract another rich man!

"Let’s go! We’re going shopping at the department store!" Thinking this, Willow regained her confidence and asked her girlfriend to call some friends to join them.

Her girlfriends knew she had unlimited shopping cards from Evan Sawyer, so they didn’t hold back. Several female friends were invited.

Women naturally have strong shopping abilities, and with five or six people combined, it was even more overwhelming.

At payment time, the bill was so long it practically dropped to the floor.

"Miss White, your total spending is three million seven thousand six hundred, would you like to swipe your card?"

Hearing the price, Willow White didn’t think much of it, having spent even more when out with Evan Sawyer before.

She generously gave the card to the cashier, "Swipe it."

Who would have thought, less than half a minute later, the cashier told Willow White, "Miss White, your card has been frozen, it cannot be used. Do you have another card?"

Frozen?!

Willow White was stunned, "That’s impossible!"

Just in case Evan Sawyer might think to freeze the card later, she had rushed to shop to cash in on it.

How could it be so soon?!

Willow White recalled she had other cards in her bag and hurriedly pulled them out for the cashier to try.

Not a single one was usable; all were frozen!!

Willow White’s face turned exceedingly ugly, forcing herself to smile at the cashier, "Then I’ll return all these items."

"Alright, Miss White, but you need to purchase the clothes you’re wearing and the skincare sets you’ve tried, as they’ll be charged at full price."

Being a regular customer and still carrying the title of Evan Sawyer’s fiancée, nobody stopped her when she said she’d wear new clothes straight to payment.

Even she hadn’t anticipated not being able to pay for these items.

Willow White’s heart sank as she had given most of her money to her brother. Without Evan Sawyer’s auxiliary card and only relying on her own remaining funds, she simply couldn’t afford the huge bill!

...

The next day, Ann Vaughn found out from Cyrus Hawthorne about Willow White’s shopping frenzy that led nearly to a police call due to unpaid bills at the mall.

Though feeling a bit regretful, there was no sympathy.

However, ...

"Why did you tell me this?" Ann Vaughn, still groggy, lay on the bed rubbing her eyes, more curious about why Cyrus would gossip with her than tired.

Cyrus Hawthorne leisurely tied his tie and attached the tie clip Ann had previously given him before walking over to her.

"Doesn’t it whet your appetite? Eat more for breakfast." He slightly bent down, placed a gentle kiss on her forehead, then turned and left the bedroom.

"Mmm..." Ann Vaughn touched the spot where she was lightly kissed, the corner of her lips lifting slightly.

Nothing is more pleasing than having someone share in your childishness.

After getting up and washing, Ann Vaughn headed to Bella Hawthorne’s room, checking her pulse to see how her health was improving.

Lately, aside from Kenny bringing small things to cheer Bella Hawthorne up and coax her for walks, she barely left the room and seldom opened the windows.

Worried she would feel stifled, Ann Vaughn tried counseling her during acupuncture, but it was of little effect.

Though when Kenny was around, her smiles were more frequent.

"You really like children." After completing her routine acupuncture on Bella Hawthorne, Ann Vaughn placed the needle kit back in the medical box, suddenly sighing gently, "Have you truly made up your mind? There’s no regret after the move."

"Actually, I, like my brother, don’t like children." Bella Hawthorne rubbed the spots from the acupuncture, feeling slight pain, "J.B. is special."

What’s so special about him?

He and his mommy have similar beautiful eyes that, whenever they smile, seem coated in sweet honey and warm sunshine.

Utterly sincere with not a hint of impurity.

Not in the least affected by her experiences...to distance from her.

Ann Vaughn didn’t know what Bella Hawthorne was thinking and told her, "Just two more days of the medicine, and you’ll be almost there."
