Chapter 646: Challenging Mega Evolution

During the transaction involving the breeding method, Terrance only took two days to finish teaching Abomasnow the basics.

It wasn’t because Terrance was a particularly good teacher, but rather because Abomasnow already had a strong foundation. As a main Pokémon of a veteran Trainer who had fought in the Champion League, it was much easier for it to pick up new techniques using its own experience.

With the Trainer being experienced and the Pokémon having a solid foundation, preliminary control of snowy weather wasn’t difficult for them. As for taking it further, that wasn’t Terrance’s responsibility.

“Is this the secret to the increased size?” Akon asked, looking at the three bottles of potion on Terrance’s table.

“Want to check the ingredients?”

“Of course I need to check them,” Terrance said. “I asked for two extra samples just for this reason. Among my Pokémon, only Arcanine is currently suitable for this kind of breeding method. The amplification for the others is minimal. Altaria might be worth a try too… But I still feel a little uneasy about using a breeding method directly obtained from someone else.”

Terrance’s idea was to study the potion. He wasn’t aiming to acquire the original formula; what he mainly wanted was to see if there was any room for optimization to better raise Arcanine.

Since Celebi’s awakening time was unknown, Terrance continued training his Pokémon with the help of Teacher Teresa to build a stronger foundation.

But after about a week of this, both Terrance and Akon started to feel that something was wrong.

“Still not awake?”

Celebi had been asleep for nearly half a month. Although the glow of the leaf was becoming more pronounced, there were still no signs of awakening, which made Terrance hesitate.

Waiting like this was seriously testing his patience. He had finally made it to the future timeline, but without knowing when Celebi would wake up, staying in Anistar City felt like a waste of time.

He wanted battles. All his Pokémon had hit bottlenecks, and training alone was yielding very little progress. To break through, Beautifly, Altaria, Gallade, Mismagius, Arcanine, and Castform needed to experience a qualitative leap, not just accumulation. In that case, a few intense battles might be just what they needed.

With Mega Evolution now widespread, powerful Trainers were everywhere. Terrance himself had risen thanks to the power of Mega Evolution, so he naturally understood how much it could boost combat strength.

After thinking it over for a bit, Terrance got the idea to go out and challenge others before returning.

He’d thought about this before, but had been firmly stopped by Teacher Teresa. Now that a week had passed and Celebi still hadn’t woken up, Terrance started trying to persuade Akon.

“So, how about it? I’ll go battle, and you help me record the data. Weren’t you curious about totem aura? If we run into strong Trainers, you can observe it in actual combat.”

“I was just thinking the same thing.” Akon’s thoughts aligned with Terrance’s perfectly. Compared to waiting around for Celebi to wake up, going on a short trip was clearly more interesting.

Although Teacher Teresa had warned them not to leave Anistar City, the two had made up their minds and snuck out.

The next day, when Teresa came to the hotel to look for them, they were already gone. She frowned as she accepted the envelope the hotel staff handed her.

“??”

Opening the envelope and reading the message inside, she let out a helpless sigh, then glared fiercely out the window.

By that time, Terrance and Akon had already left Anistar City.

Now that they had temporary resident identity, they didn’t need to worry about lodging and could freely explore Kalos.

Terrance’s first goal was to get Mismagius experience as many battles as possible. It was on the verge of fully digesting that fear energy, and it would soon complete its training.

“We’re going to challenge this Astrid…?”

Akon jogged beside Terrance: “I heard she has mastered Absol’s Mega Evolution. She’s a well-known Trainer in the area, and she’s probably the closest one to us.”

“Absol, huh?” Terrance said. “That’s a pretty good Pokémon. By the way, it’s been a while, don’t be too shocked by how strong my Pokémon have become when the time comes…”

“It’s impossible.” Akon pulled out his palm-sized notebook and said, “I’ve already obtained your Pokémon data from your Rotom Pokédex. From the data alone, I can determine your Pokémon’s strength.”

“The change in strength really did surprise me… but I’ve already been surprised once. I won’t be surprised a second time.”

Terrance looked at his serious expression and shrugged boredly. That habit of being super sensitive to data hadn’t changed at all.

“Alright, that Trainer’s name is Astrid, right? Let’s make her our first target.”

In the forest outside Couriway Town.

Terrance looked at the blonde woman across from him and said in surprise, “Didn’t expect her to be the same age.”

Akon hadn’t told him that Astrid was a female Trainer about his age.

“A Trainer’s strength isn’t determined by age. Of all the Trainers who have come to challenge me after hearing my name, I’ve only lost once so far.”

“Of course I know that,” Terrance said with a smile.

Astrid brushed her hair and said, “Since this is a challenge, let’s start the battle quickly. I have things to do afterward.”

“As you wish,” Terrance replied. “Rotom Pokédex, you’re in charge of recording the battle.”

“Roger that, Roto~~”

Seeing how straightforward Terrance was, Astrid smiled and said, “I quite like you, especially your hair color.”

“Your name is?”

“Terrance from Fallarbor Town..” Terrance pulled out Mismagius’s Poké Ball and threw it straight away.

Remember that name! Because soon, it won’t exist in this timeline anymore.

“I’m Astrid. And my partner is this. Go, Absol!”

The opposing Absol wielded the power of Mega Evolution, but that didn’t mean Mismagius couldn’t fight back.

Even if the opponent had a type advantage, only after undergoing Mega Evolution did Absol qualify to battle Terrance’s Mismagius.

Terrance had that confidence.

“Mismagius, use Astonish!”

Astonish, when used by Mismagius now, was a combined application of its fear energy and illusion skill.

Endless malice surged forward, transforming into a shadowy black mist to engulf Absol. Facing this eerie attack, Astrid waved her hand and commanded, “An Illusion? Absol, don’t be afraid. Use Psycho Cut to disperse it!”

“Mismagius, increase the power.”

Terrance snapped his fingers, and the shadowy black mist conjured by Mismagius completely ignored Psycho Cut. The purple Psycho Cut passed straight through the mist, leaving it completely unaffected. Instead, the shadowy figure morphed into black smoke and instantly engulfed Absol.
