Chapter 40 This Is Not the Yan Ge They Knew

Su He felt out of place amidst the powerful figures at the Lu Corporation's anniversary celebration. After greeting the elder, she intended to find a quiet corner to eat, wishing to avoid being the center of attention.

Elder Lu smiled at her with affection. "It must be quite boring for you with us old folks. Yan Bei, take Su Su to the lounge. There are activities for young people like you there."

Su He was startled by his words.

Could it be that the elder already knew about their relationship?

Su He stole a glance at Lu Yan Bei. His expression was calm, showing no signs of panic.

"Understood," he replied indifferently, sounding somewhat impatient.

Su He silently grumbled: He's good at putting on an act!

But then again, this was the Lu Yan Bei that others saw.

Repulsive towards any woman!

His willingness to escort Su He to the lounge must have been out of respect for Elder Lu.

Not only did the uncles and elder relatives think so, but even Lu Yan Bei's good friends shared the same opinion.

As the group arrived at the lounge on the second floor, only a scattering of people were seen chatting on the sofas. Upon seeing Lu Yan Bei and his companions enter, the people inside quickly rose, their excitement palpable.

"He must be Young Master Yan, he's even more handsome in person than on TV!"

"Ahhhhh, I can't believe I'm seeing him in person!"

"Oh my goodness, he's so tall! I have to look up to see him!"

"The young masters accompanying Young Master Yan are also good-looking. Whose sons are they?"

The girls covered their faces with excitement, their gaze fixed on Lu Yan Bei.

However, a young man caught sight of Su He and frowned, asking, "Who is the girl with Young Master Yan?"

Su He had put in extra effort with her appearance today, dressing in a more feminine style and looking more mature than at Lu's birthday banquet last time. Thus, he had failed to recognize her at first glance.

Upon hearing the word "girl," the other girls snapped out of their daze and began scrutinizing Su He.

"Who is that woman? Could she be the sister of one of the three behind them?"

"Did they forget Young Master Yan's rules? How dare they bring a girl up here, they have no foresight!"

"Let's wait and see what happens! Young Master Yan is bound to lose his temper soon!"

The group whispered amongst themselves, their gazes towards Su He filled with hostility.

This was the intuition women were born with.

Lu Yan Bei ignored the scrutiny and walked directly into a small room at the far end.

Just as Su He was looking for an excuse to leave, she heard Lu Yan Bei say, "I have a call to make. You play a couple of rounds for me first."

It turned out this small room was a game room, with an automatic mahjong table in the center.

Su He, who had been about to leave, slowly retracted her foot. "It might not be appropriate for me to stay..."

Lu Yan Bei merely glanced at her before turning to the balcony.

Su He felt awkward and unsure of what to do, neither knowing whether to leave or stay.

Finally, Gu Yu Heng came to her rescue. "Since Brother Yan said so, why don't you help out? We happen to be short one player."

"Same old rules, ten thousand as the base bet," He Shu Fan said, taking the west seat.

Gu Yu Heng and Lei Ting also took their seats, leaving Su He standing alone.

"Miss Su, come on over." Although Gu Yu Heng was a bit confused, he didn't overthink it. He assumed Lu Yan Bei had to bring her along to play due to Elder Lu.

Su He smiled and nodded, lifting her skirt as she demurely sat down. Initially, she was reluctant, but with money involved, her reluctance immediately vanished.

No one could stop her from making money!

When Lu Yan Bei returned after his call, Su He was already skillfully arranging tiles, looking like anything but a beginner.

He stood behind her, not immediately asking her to give up her seat, but watching her play with keen interest.

Gu Yu Heng and the others had serious expressions on their faces.

They had expected a girl like Su He to not play mahjong often and planned to take a hefty sum from her. To their surprise, Su He, despite appearing to be a novice, had incredibly good luck. Although she didn't win any major hands, she won every round. After several rounds, the chips in front of Su He had piled up into a small mountain.

In the subsequent rounds, they had to play with utmost caution.

He Shu Fan was the first to notice Lu Yan Bei's return. "Brother Yan, you're finally back!"

After losing another round, Gu Yu Heng also complained about needing a substitute. "Miss Su is like a lucky charm! Quickly help me play a couple of rounds, if I keep losing, I won't have any pocket money left for the month!"

Lei Ting glanced at the chips in front of him with a dejected expression.

He had been planning to win a few rounds to buy the new season's hero characters.

Unexpectedly, Lu Yan Bei remained unmoved. "If I played, wouldn't you all lose even more terribly?"

As soon as he said this, the three fell silent.

That's right!

Although Su He kept winning, they were all small victories. If Lu Yan Bei played, he could probably win all of them in one go.

Thinking this, the three men felt a bit more at ease.

"Let's go again! I don't believe the God of Fortune will favor her forever!" Gu Yu Heng pushed the mahjong tiles aside and started a new round.

"Thank you for your generosity." Su He glanced at the person behind her and didn't rush to leave the table.

It was strange, though.

Su He rarely played mahjong, yet she was always the one winning. She vaguely remembered being terrible at math and nearly failing to graduate from university, but here, she seemed to possess an extraordinary talent.

However, while she loved money, she dared not truly dampen their spirits. So, in the following rounds, she deliberately let them win a few times.

After all, she had won quite a bit today, making tens of thousands for free. She was content.

After an hour of playing, Lei Ting got up to go to the restroom.

Only then did Lu Yan Bei take his seat.

Gu Yu Heng, while counting the chips in front of him, suddenly remembered something. "Brother Yan, didn't you say you were going to introduce Sister-in-law to us? Where is she?"

Hearing this, Su He's body stiffened abruptly.

Lu Yan Bei lit a cigarette and looked towards Su He. "Isn't she right here?"

"Where?" Gu Yu Heng looked around.

He Shu Fan, sitting opposite Su He, seemed to have discovered a huge secret. A mahjong tile slipped from his grasp, falling to the floor with a clatter. Could the Sister-in-law Brother Yan was referring to be... Miss Su?

At the same time, Gu Yu Heng also realized, his eyes widening again. "No, no, it couldn't be her, could it?"

He pointed at Su He beside him.

Lu Yan Bei did not deny it.

"Yan, Brother Yan... you're not joking with us, are you?" Gu Yu Heng's words became stammering in his excitement.

How could it be her?

This, this is too... inappropriate!

Su He had just divorced Lu Jing Yang!

It was one thing if he liked married women, but this was his ex-sister-in-law!

The relationship was too messed up!

Gu Yu Heng refused to accept this fact.

Yes, this must be a joke!

However, Lu Yan Bei suddenly reached out, grasped Su He's wrist, and pulled her into his embrace as she tried to escape. Su He was wearing high heels and was already unsteady. With the sudden pull, she lost her balance, stumbled, and inevitably landed on Lu Yan Bei's lap.

The pose was as ambiguous as it could get.

"Let go!" Su He pleaded in a low voice, her face flushed. Su He frantically struggled, but Lu Yan Bei did not let go. "Don't you like playing mahjong? Lei Ting, take her seat."

Lei Ting, who had just pushed the door open, was already petrified, standing blankly at the doorway, unsure how to react.

Was this still the Lu Yan Bei they knew?
