Chapter 36 Before the Hundred Regiments Offensive

At the Wolf Fang command center.

Fan Tianlei's expression was far from pleasant.

The reason was the phone call he had just received.

Chen Shanming, standing nearby, looked at the displeased Fan Tianlei and cautiously asked, "Number Five, what's wrong?"

Fan Tianlei sighed first, then sat down and said, "The Hundred-Regiment Battle is about to begin, and Wolf Fang has to participate."

"Wolf Fang has to participate too?!" Chen Shanming exclaimed in surprise. "Number Five, the Hundred-Regiment Battle is a competition between regular military branches, isn't it? What are we doing participating..."

Before Chen Shanming could finish, Fan Tianlei raised his hand, signaling him to stop talking, and then explained, "This exercise is different. It involves the subsequent reorganization of the entire military region. Besides, other military regions have precedents. This is nothing, and it's a price to pay."

"A price? What price?" Chen Shanming asked, completely bewildered by Fan Tianlei's words.

"Alright, stop asking so many questions. Get ready," Fan Tianlei said, rubbing his forehead as he sat in his chair, his mind preoccupied with the matter.

The truth was, as Chen Shanming had said, this Hundred-Regiment Battle was a competition among regular military branches, aimed at weeding out the old and bringing in the new. However, this couldn't withstand the top leadership's decision to reorganize the entire military region. After all, no one wanted their military region to be absorbed.

Furthermore, other military regions had employed such tactics before. With the current reorganization involved, they must have heard the news and were surely prepared.

However, for Wolf Fang, this was a first, like a young bride stepping into her sedan chair.

e=(´o`*))))sigh!

Just then, a flash of inspiration struck Fan Tianlei. His gaze drifted towards the barracks where Qin Feng was housed not far away.

Immediately, Fan Tianlei called out to Chen Shanming, who was about to leave the office.

"Shanming, no need to prepare anymore. I don't intend to send you all."

"We don't have to go again?" Chen Shanming grumbled, exasperated by Fan Tianlei's erratic decisions.

"Yes, you don't have to go!" Fan Tianlei ignored Chen Shanming's current thoughts and said directly, "I plan to let Qin Feng and the others try. Their current abilities are almost on par with ordinary special forces soldiers, and some are even better. This will be a trial for them. This way, we pay the price, and Qin Feng and the others can grow."

Chen Shanming heard Fan Tianlei's lengthy explanation and understood, yet he also didn't quite understand.

Seeing this, Fan Tianlei had no intention of explaining further and waved his hand, dismissing Chen Shanming.

...

The next morning, early.

The rookies were all assembled on the training ground. However, their puzzled expressions clearly indicated their confusion about the current situation.

Fan Tianlei, along with Chen Shanming and others, walked directly in front of the rookies and said with a stern expression, "Attention!"

*Swish!*

The rookies stood at attention, their movements unified and their bodies erect on the training ground.

Fan Tianlei looked at everyone with a very serious expression and said sternly:

"I know you're all wondering why you're assembled here today and why there's no training. It's because in half a month, you will participate in a competition called the Hundred-Regiment Battle."

"The Hundred-Regiment Battle isn't a fight between a hundred regiments, but a large-scale battle involving all regular military units in the entire military region."

"I know some of you will question why you, as reserve special forces soldiers, are participating when it's said to be for regular military branches. It's because there are many hidden talents throughout the military region, and many individuals are more capable than you in certain aspects."

"Of course, I'm not trying to discourage you. Instead, I want to use this opportunity to test your team combat capabilities. After all, in the future, you won't always be facing just a few enemies; more often, you'll be facing them in large groups."

Fan Tianlei paused here, looked at the rookies, and finally his gaze settled on Qin Feng.

Upon hearing this news, a sense of excitement filled the rookies' eyes, all of them eager to compete immediately.

Even Qin Feng, though outwardly calm, felt a surge of joy upon hearing the news.

Then, Fan Tianlei's voice rang out again.

"One reminder: this time, you will not be representing the Wolf Fang Special Operations Brigade, but the Iron Fist Regiment."

"I believe you've all heard of the Iron Fist Regiment, and some of you may even be soldiers from the Iron Fist Regiment."

As he spoke, Fan Tianlei's gaze fell on Qin Feng, He Chenguang, Wang Yanbing, and Li Erniu. After a brief glance, he continued, "This competition will be participated in as a team, so you will compete as a commando unit."

"The exercise will last for fifteen days, and the competition area will be set in the mountainous forests, wetlands, and grasslands near the northwestern border, within a diameter of one hundred kilometers."

"Hearing these areas, you should understand what this implies. We won't even mention the conditions of the region; there will definitely be plenty of poisonous creatures, and the terrain is extremely treacherous and dangerous. This is also a test for you. Special forces soldiers must first and foremost be all-around warriors capable of operating in all weather and all terrains."

At this point, Fan Tianlei's voice suddenly became louder, even carrying a rare tone of excitement.

"Another point to note is that each person participating in the exercise will wear a bracelet similar to a positioning device. The function of this bracelet is that every three days, it will display the scores and locations of the top ten teams."

"Given that you are external reinforcements invited by the Iron Fist Regiment, you must firmly claim to be members of the Iron Fist Regiment. Your designated position will be the First Squad, meaning you will be the vanguards."

"Do you understand?"

Hearing Fan Tianlei's question, the rookies' bodies trembled, and they immediately shouted in unison, "Understood!"

After speaking, a sense of joy radiated from their eyes. Such an exercise was precisely what they needed; they finally had an opportunity to showcase their skills.

Seeing their reactions, Fan Tianlei recalled the last point and continued, "There's one last thing, regarding the final rankings. This ranking is different from previous ones; it's not about who survives to the end to be the champion."

"Instead, it will be primarily based on kill counts, with rankings serving as a secondary factor. As for how to obtain kill counts, it will be related to two crucial decision-makers in each regiment: the regiment commander and the chief of staff. Your team will earn one point only if you successfully 'decapitate' these two individuals."

"The purpose of this is to prevent some military branches from specializing in defense and being unable to be breached, thus allowing them to survive to the end solely through defensive tactics."

"An excellent team must ensure comprehensive development and progress across all military branches."

"Therefore, during the last ten days, we will conduct comprehensive special training for you, with a difficulty a hundred times that of before."

Hearing Fan Tianlei's words, the rookies felt their blood boil.

They felt as if they had an inexhaustible supply of energy, eager to begin training immediately and become even stronger.

At this moment, Qin Feng finally understood what the Hundred-Regiment Battle mentioned by the system last night was.

However, Chen Shanming and the others did not waste any more time and immediately ordered the men to continue training.

Half a month passed by, drop by drop, with the rookies' training.

As their training progressed, the difficulty increased, and eliminations were constant.

On the final day, this half-month of hellish special training finally concluded.

The final outcome...
