Qi Ying remembered something else and asked respectfully, "Boss, a new batch of recruits has arrived recently. Do you want to take some time to go see them?"
"Not interested. You guys can handle it," Xing Yuan yawned lazily. Her ambition wasn't particularly strong.
However, what was her sister doing now?
While Xing Yuan was diligently exploring her own background, Ling Chenyue, whom she was also thinking about, sneezed. She rubbed her dark circles and continued assigning tasks to her subordinates.
She was the captain of a SWAT team in Zhen'an City. She had served as a peacekeeper in her early years, then joined a special operations team. Later, after some experiences, her position became what it was now.
The past could not be pursued; one must do their best in their current role.
Female officers were rare. Initially, she couldn't gain everyone's trust. But later, through her efforts and achievements, she successfully integrated into the new team.
Their mission this time was to arrest a smuggler who had entered the country illegally.
This person had worked as a notorious bandit in his early years, responsible for over a dozen deaths. This time, he had revealed himself due to the theft at a private museum in Zhen'an City.
However, this person was extremely skilled at concealing his identity. Ling Chenyue spent two days finally tracing his movements.
Tonight was their last chance. He had bought plane and boat tickets under different identities, preparing to leave the country. Because they weren't entirely sure, the entire SWAT team was divided into two groups.
The port was quiet in the dead of night. They had blocked all routes. As long as he appeared, he wouldn't be able to escape.
But just as everyone was nervously waiting, a boat approached from a distance. The dazzling lights made a few people squint, and then a dark figure quickly jumped onto the boat.
Ling Chenyue ran while issuing commands at lightning speed, "Someone went up. Team one, follow them. Team two, stay put to prevent a diversionary tactic."
"Yes, Captain."
Ling Chenyue followed the dark figure and boarded the boat right behind him.
The dark figure appeared to be a strong man. But as he looked back at the people following him, he quickly ran to the other end of the boat and then jumped into the water.
A team member angrily fired two shots into the water.
The water was vast. Ling Chenyue glanced back at the team member who fired, hit the railing in frustration, and quickly made a call, "What's the situation on shore?"
"Everything is normal," someone replied from the other end.
"He jumped into the water! Notify the local police to dispatch personnel to assist. Wait!" Ling Chenyue looked at the faint bloodstains rising to the surface of the water. "He must be injured. Narrow down the search area."
Ling Chenyue hung up the call and looked around. "Who is the captain of this ship? Why is it still moving? Didn't they hear the gunshots?"
"Captain, I'll check immediately," one person said.
"Get down, hands behind your head!"
In the captain's cabin, a SWAT team member pointed a gun at the captain.
"What's going on?" Ling Chenyue walked in from outside.
He reported immediately, "Captain, this is a smuggling ship. The smugglers are all in the cabins."
Ling Chenyue's face instantly darkened. This was an opportunity for merit that shouldn't be wasted. "Take them back and interrogate them thoroughly."
The ship docked, and many people disembarked, looking like refugees, dressed in tattered clothes, huddled together fearfully.
"Captain, what should we do with these people?"
Ling Chenyue looked at these people of different complexions, feeling a headache. "Let's take them all back to the police station first! The chief will make proper arrangements."
"Xiao Ling! Look what you've done. What is this? It's like trying to plant flowers but they don't grow, while an unintentional willow branch takes root!" The chief patted Ling Chenyue's shoulder with a chuckle.
"Chief!" Ling Chenyue frowned helplessly. "I didn't want the willow branch to take root!"
"Alright, didn't you see his photo before? Do you think the person who was shot tonight was him?" the chief asked sternly.
Ling Chenyue hesitated for a moment, then said with some difficulty, "It was too dark, and I didn't get a clear look. I'd say there's about a seventy to eighty percent chance. However, this person is always slippery, and no one has been able to catch him for so many years. It's possible this was also a trap he set."
The chief nodded in agreement. "That's true! Otherwise, his bounty wouldn't be as high as one hundred thousand."
"Dealing with these illegal immigrants is very troublesome. I still need to contact my superiors to arrange for the deportation of those foreigners. Then there will be a pile of things waiting for me to handle. You go and interrogate those few people first. Perhaps you can find some clues," the chief sighed and resignedly began his busy night.
Ling Chenyue pursed her lips a little sheepishly, then nodded silently, closed the chief's door, and turned into the interrogation room.
The captain of this smuggling ship was clearly not an old hand. He seemed like he was doing this for the first time. After being discovered by the police, his reaction was like someone entering a police station for the first time. Before Ling Chenyue went in, he had already confessed everything he knew.
"Originally, this job should have been for Bei Ye, but Bei Ye valued me and specifically asked me, who had never done this kind of work before, to do it, saying it was to pave the way for me. Who would have thought that Bei Ye actually intended to send me in!"
The captain, who called himself Li Wen, spoke with resentment in his eyes, clearly immersed in the pain of being abandoned.
Finally, the man tried to save face, attempting to salvage his shattered pride. "But I believe that Bei Ye, being such a loyal person, wouldn't abandon me."
"Heh!" Ling Chenyue sneered, understanding the cause and effect of the matter.
The truth was simply that an expendable subordinate had been sold out by their boss, and their boss had likely reached some kind of agreement with the great thief.
The coldness in Ling Chenyue's eyes was undeniable. As soon as she left the interrogation room, she called everyone together for a meeting. The first question was: "Have you found him?"
"No! The Jing team has searched everywhere, not even a fly could get out, but we haven't found any suspicious individuals."
"Who is this 'Bei Ye,' and what's his background?"
"I know this!" A man raised his hand. Seeing everyone's gaze on him, he smiled sheepishly and continued, "I've heard about this Bei Ye from others before."
"I heard it from the mouths of some of the people we've arrested. His real name is Wang Yubei. It's said he came from outside and made a name for himself here within a few years."
"It's said that this person has no bottom line. As long as he's paid, he'll do business for anyone. The greater the risk, the more money he gets. He even boasted before that if we police could offer him double the price of his clients, he would even do business with us."
