Comran's face changed as he heard the words, seemingly recalling something.
"Need help? Are you talking about... Terry?"
"Who else but that bastard? If we don't take care of him soon, that bunch of losers from the Exorcism Department won't be able to contain him!"
Thinking about the reports from his subordinates, the old man felt a headache coming on and kept rubbing his temples with his fingers.
Initially, he wanted to study how the Bizarre could perfectly merge with humans, to see if there was a chance to restart the "Symbiosis Project."
He'd never anticipated Terry's growth would be so astonishingly fast; Terry was now almost completely out of control.
"Right! We must deal with him quickly. That monster screams every day about finding his daughter; we absolutely can't let him escape! If that incident gets out, we'll probably be torn to pieces by the enraged public."
Comran, somewhat panicked internally, could no longer care about the video on his phone. Right now, the most important thing was to figure out how to deal with the ticking time bomb that was Terry.
"Exorcist... We need a powerful Exorcist!" Comran kept muttering, searching his memory for possible candidates.
"Comran, there's a candidate right under our noses!"
Following the old man's gaze, Comran looked down at what he was holding.
"Are you talking about him?" Comran's expression stiffened as he lifted his phone. "This rule-trampling bastard?"
"Exactly!" The old man spread his hands. "Apart from Chu Feng, do you have any other suitable candidates? At least when he's paid, he's sure to complete the mission."
Regarding Chu Feng's reputation, Comran found it hard to argue. Apart from his greed, Chu Feng had never once failed any task he had undertaken.
Despite his extreme dislike for Chu Feng, he indeed had no better candidates at this point.
Just as he was about to silently concede to this option, the door to the room was suddenly knocked.
CLICK. A figure pushed the door open and hurried in, a panicked expression on their face.
"Sir, Terry has escaped!" The person was the old man's personal assistant.
The sudden news caused both individuals in the room to stiffen.
"What did you say?"
Comran, incredulous, stepped forward and grabbed the assistant's arm, questioning him sharply.
"Mr. Comran, Terry killed the Exorcist watching over him and ran away from the research lab!"
The assistant looked at Comran's fierce expression, panic rising in his chest; he had never seen the vice president in such a state.
"Xie Te! Send someone to catch him immediately! Where are the Exorcism Department people? Did they just watch that monster escape?"
Comran was now completely panicked, his previous composure gone without a trace.
If the public found out that the government's upper echelons colluded with a Cult, causing the Portland incident, I couldn't even begin to imagine the scale of the disaster that would follow. State Governments, already restless for independence, would certainly not miss this opportunity. The public would storm the White House and tear people like us into pieces. The military would also very likely mutiny... By then, death might be my only option left.
"Sir! Sir!"
The assistant's frantic voice finally roused Comran.
Looking up, he saw that the previously rosy-cheeked old man had now collapsed on the ground, ashen-faced, his eyes closed tight, as if he had lost consciousness.
"Damn it!"
Comran's thoughts raced; he immediately understood. If the old man collapses, this whole mess will fall on me, his deputy, to handle! No! You can't collapse now!
"Quick, call a doctor!!!"
After shouting at the old man's assistant, Comran immediately rushed to the old man's side.
He still faintly remembered some CPR techniques.
Comran pressed on the old man's chest, frantically screaming in his mind.
Whether you've truly passed out or you're just faking it, open your damn eyes!
Unfortunately, even as the ambulance took the old man away, Comran hadn't seen his eyelids flicker even once.
It's over!
Comran slumped to the ground, closing his eyes in despair.
That damn old man is definitely faking it. Next, he'll certainly resign from the presidency, citing serious illness. Then, as the "substitute," I'll assume the presidency... Although I've always yearned for this day, I never imagined I'd be inheriting the office just to take the blame.
"No!" Comran's eyes snapped open. There must be a solution... As long as I can stop him from talking before everything blows up...
His gaze involuntarily drifted to the phone lying nearby.
...
「In New York, inside the Exorcism Agency.」
"Have you heard? Something seems to have happened in Portland again!"
"What is it? Don't tell me cultists have opened another Gate of Breaking Boundary?"
"How could it be? After last time, you know how vigilant Portland's new city government is about the Gate of Breaking Boundary; they practically wish they could inspect the whole city every day."
"Then what could it be? A Bizarre invasion?"
"Rumor has it, it's vampires. The humans who were attacked were left as dried corpses, not a single drop of blood left in their bodies."
Chu Feng, who happened to be passing by, raised an eyebrow at these words.
"Vampires? It couldn't be that Vampire Family, could it? However, Portland... I remember, that Sirio from the Holy Advent Society is hiding there, right? Could it be..."
Chu Feng walked thoughtfully towards the elevator door.
DING. As the elevator door opened, he came face to face with Taran, who was hurrying.
"Chu Feng! I was just looking for you!"
Taran, holding a folder, stopped upon seeing Chu Feng and followed him back into the elevator.
"On such a wonderful morning, I hope you bring good news!" Chu Feng said with a smile, looking at the folder in Taran's arms.
"Yes, good news!" Taran returned Chu Feng's faint smile. "For the agency, it's a truly rare and excellent piece of news!"
Seeing the corner of Taran's mouth quirk up, Chu Feng's heart inexplicably skipped a beat.
Good news?
He looked down again at the folder Taran was holding.
"No way! I've only just had a few days off..."
DING. The elevator door opened again, and Chu Feng walked out holding a file, a wry smile on his face.
Behind him, Taran emerged from the elevator, a faint smile on his face as he watched Chu Feng's retreating figure.
After entering the office and sitting on the sofa, Chu Feng finally opened the file he had received from Taran.
"The federal government? They actually dare to send a commission again?"
A cold sneer touched Chu Feng's lips as he read the information in the file.
How long has it been since the last incident? And they still have the gall to come knocking again.
"We had already refused their commission, but..." Taran spread his hands as he met Chu Feng's gaze, "they offered too much this time!"
"Oh? Now I'm intrigued!"
At Taran's words, Chu Feng's interest was piqued, and he directly flipped to the last page of the file.
