Chapter 93: Chapter 93: Yue Ning Returns To The Lu Residence
After a light breakfast, Yue Ning and Huo Feng directly drove to the Lu Mansion while Huo Yan returned to college.
All through the drive, Yue Ning was silent as her eyes were glued outside the window. Huo Feng would occasionally glance at her, but he never spoke a word.
He left her to sort out her emotions, this was something only she could do herself.
Meanwhile, the Lu family were not idle either. Yue Ning had sent a text to Lu Ting the previous night. So today, she was busy preparing the mansion for her daughter’s return.
Lu Ting looked at the arrangements which had been made and she had a satisfied smile.
Lu Jiang wrapped his arms around her before saying with his deep voice, "you can leave all these to the servants. You don’t need to exert yourself."
Lu Ting raised her head, and glared at him sharply. "You don’t know how fulfilling it is to get it done by yourself. What do you even know?"
Lu Jiang chuckled deeply, his laughter reaching straight into Lu Ting’s ears. Her lips slowly curved, and her eyes... they radiated light.
Lu Jiang was in a good mood seeing his wife laugh loudly. When was the last time he saw a genuine smile on her face? He couldn’t remember.
He was grateful that he found his daughter. With the addition of his daughter to the family, he knew that the days ahead would be filled with laughter and happiness.
Lu Ran descended the stairs in a blue tuxedo. He was looking dazzling. His hair had been combed to the back, and he was holding a gift in his hands.
"You are looking quite handsome today," Lu Ting commented.
Lu Ran suavely ran his hands through his hair as he nodded. "Of course I have to look handsome. Xiao Ning is returning today, I don’t want her to think that her brother lacks style."
The couple burst into laughter at their son’s words.
"What is that in your hands?" Lu Jiang asked after noticing the box in his hand.
Lu Ran scratched his hair awkwardly. "It is a gift for Xiao Ning. I spent quite an effort trying to get this gift." He paused, and exhaled.
"Ever since I found out she was my sister, I’ve been trying to get this gift. I only hope she will like it." There was a look of anticipation in his eyes.
Lu Jiang placed one of his hands on his son’s shoulders. "Xiao Ning is not an unreasonable girl. I believe she would like whatever you give her. What matters are the thoughts behind the gift."
Lu Ran felt relieved at his father’s words. It was just as he said. It’s the thought that counts.
"Where is Lu Quan? And what is taking him so long?" Lu Ting stared at her wristwatch with furrowed brows. "He even takes more time than a woman to dress up." She murmured, completely dissatisfied by her son’s tardiness.
"Fear not, Mother, for I am here." Lu Quan smiled with his arms wide open.
Lu Ting’s lips twitched at her son’s actions, but she turned her attention away from him without batting an eyelid.
"Mother, you praised Ran. What about me?" Lu Quan asked with a mischievous smile.
Lu Jiang’s brows shot up at his son’s shameless words. "How did you know she praised him?" He asked his eldest son.
"I guessed it. Lu Ran is looking handsome today. There’s no way Mother would miss praising him." Lu Quan teased.
Lu Ting rolled her eyes. All of a sudden, the sound of the engine could be heard from a distance. She widened her eyes before darting straight for the entrance.
The men exchanged glances before hurriedly following after her.
When they got to the entrance, they were just in time to see Huo Feng pulling over. Lu Ting’s smile widened as her heartbeat pulsated. Her daughter was about to return home.
When Huo Feng stepped out, he walked around the car, and opened the door for Yue Ning, just like a gentleman.
The three men of the Lu family were all taken aback. This was the first time they’d be seeing him so considerate. They exchanged glances, and they could see the question in their eyes.
Unfortunately, they had no answers as to why Huo Feng behaved this way. Or rather they did, but were unwilling to face the truth.
Yue Ning and Huo Feng, on the other hand walked towards the entrance amidst the servants bowing and collectively greeting, "Young Miss!"
Their hands were intertwined as they finally stood opposite the members of the Lu.
"Mr. Lu, Madam Lu," Huo Feng was the first to greet. He gave a small nod to show he acknowledged the two brothers standing behind the couple. This was after all his wife’s family. He still had to give them some face.
Lu Ting wasn’t interested in Huo Feng’s greetings, so she perfunctorily nodded. Instead, her gaze shifted to Yue Ning. She was waiting to hear the girl call he’d mom.
Yue Ning could see the look of anticipation and expectations in her mother’s eyes. She was obviously smart enough to know what the older woman wanted.
Taking a deep breath, her lips slowly curled as she called out, "Mom, Dad, Brothers." She had finally acknowledged her family.
"Good girl. Don’t stand in the sun for too long," Lu Ting’s eyes were teary as she made way for the couple to walk in.
The men were also affected by how she addressed them. They had all wished for it, and with each day that passed, they felt all hope was lost.
Fortunately, God was on their side, and He returned their daughter to them.
Lu Ran wiped his teary eyes while Lu Quan playfully hit the back of his head, although he was also feeling emotional.
Yue Ning walked into the living room, her arm still intertwined with Huo Feng’s. The last time she was here, she didn’t know who she was. But now, she walked in as the only daughter of the Lus.
Different emotions coursed through her, but there was one that stood out. Gratitude.
Yue Ning turned to look at her mother who was walking behind her, and she smiled softly.
’My daughter is so beautiful! What do I do?’ Lu Ting gasped.
They finally settled on the sofa. Yue Ning sat beside Huo Feng, and although Lu Ting wanted her daughter beside her, she held back.
’Host, you have to take the first step. They would keep on waiting for you,’ the system kindly reminded her.
At the system’s reminder, Yue Ning looked at Lu Ting, and asked. "Can I sit with you? I want to feel a mother’s warmth." She rose to her feet while looking at Yue Ning with a bit of expectation in her eyes.
Lu Ting’s eyes watered as she hastily nodded. She reached out and pulled Yue Ning into her arms, trembling as though she never wanted to let go.
The Lu family finally felt whole again.
But just then, the system’s voice whispered, carrying a weight Yue Ning dared not ignore. ’Host, this is only the first step. There are storms ahead—don’t let go of this warmth, you’ll need it.’
Yue Ning’s arms unconsciously tightened around her mother, her smile hiding a flicker of unease. She would not let anything happen to anyone she held dear. This was her promise.
