Chapter 99: Chapter 99: Playful Banter
Director Zhou shut his eyes as the sound of the gunshot rang out. He waited for the pain to hit him, but strangely, he didn’t feel any pain.
He opened one of his eyes only to see the cloaked figure smiling weirdly at him.
"You are lucky I am in a good mood today." The figure leaned back, and placed one leg over the other.
Director Zhou let out a huge breath he didn’t know he was holding. He had just escaped death. It was worth being relieved for.
"I can’t kill you, and you have been fired from the company." He uncrossed his legs, and leaned closer to Director Zhou who was on his knees. "Tell me, what do I do with you?"
Director Zhou racked his brain on how he could be useful. He couldn’t afford to die, he loved his life so much to die.
His eyes brightened as an idea flashed through his mind. "I have built up some connections in the industry. If you want to ruin Huo Feng, you will still need my help."
The cloaked figure’s lips slowly upturned into a smirk. He was clearly interested in what Director Zhou had to say.
"I am listening..."

The day slowly passed by. Lu Ting he’d called Yue Ning a total of seven times.
When they arrived at Huo Feng’s villa, she got another call.
Huo Feng laughed when he saw her facial expression. "She’s your mom. Pick the call up." He gestured to the phone.
Yue Ning sighed before picking the call. She wasn’t aware that acknowledging her family would come with so many... responsibilities.
"Dear, sorry I disturbed you once again." Lu Ting’s apologetic voice could be heard.
"No Mom. You aren’t disturbing me. I have already said you could call me anytime you wished to." Yue Ning said softly as they walked into the villa with servants bowing to them.
Lu Ting laughed, satisfied with her daughter’s cuteness as well as calmness. Yue Ning reminded her so much of herself when she was Yue Ning’s age.
"It is actually nothing big. I only called to inform you that your Aunt’s father-in-law would be having his sixty-seventh birthday tomorrow." She paused, deliberately lowering her voice.
"Do you want me to accompany you?" Yue Ning asked softly, she seemed to have understood the meaning behind Lu Ting’s words.
"Yes, I’d be happy if you’ll accompany me." Lu Ting was excited. Her daughter was still the best. "We will have a mother-daughter fun day before the banquet. That means I’ll have you to myself throughout tomorrow. I hope Huo Feng wouldn’t mind."
Yue Ning raised her head to stare at Huo Feng who had his gaze fixated on her.
Yue Ning’s lips curved slowly. "I am sure he wouldn’t mind."
Huo Feng’s brows twitched, but he reverted to his normal expression before he walked straight to his room.
Lu Ting obviously didn’t witness this interaction between her daughter and son-in-law. She was excited as she informed Yue Ning she would send a driver to the villa.
Yue Ning acknowledged her words, and disconnected the call. She laughed for a while before she walked to her room, only to bump into Huo Feng in the hallway.
Her eyes narrowed slightly as she asked. "What is wrong? I thought you wanted to freshen up."
"Where are you headed to?" He asked her while leaning on the wall with his hands in his pocket.
Yue Ning pointed to her room, "my room." She answered like it was the most natural response.
"We stayed in the same room while we were living in the ancestral mansion," he said.
Yue Ning raised her brows, "and?" She was quite dense in some situations.
Huo Feng took a deep breath, falling into a slight depression due to her statement.
"We are a couple—husband and wife. We should be sharing a room," Huo Feng suppressed the feeling in his heart as he patiently explained to his wife who pretended to be ignorant.
Yue Ning suddenly became enlightened, finally understood what he meant by his words.
’Host, you are quite dense.’ The system said bluntly.
"Oh please. How would I have expected that this was what he meant with his words? I am not at fault. He wasn’t clear." Yue Ning shot back mentally, defending herself.
She cleared her throat before looking at Huo Feng who had an expectant look in his eyes.
"You are right." She started, and she didn’t miss the look of victory which flashed in his eyes. "We are a couple. Since we want to make things work, we should start acting like normal couples." She added.
"Then I will have the maids move your things to my room." He said excitedly, leaving Yue Ning momentarily speechless.
Her lips twitched before she asked. "Are you that excited to have me in your room?" She questioned.
Huo Feng grinned widely. "You are my wife, of course I’d be excited." He replied with a good-natured tone.
Yue Ning cleared her throat awkwardly. She wasn’t ready for Huo Feng’s teasing. A rosy colour appeared on her cheeks as her gaze met everywhere except from Huo Feng’s.
"Brother, just kiss Sister-in-law already." Huo Yan’s voice could be heard from behind.
Yue Ning lowered her head instantly. "I will be in my room." She said.
"You mean, Brother’s room." Huo Yan corrected slyly.
Yue Ning didn’t reply, but she directly left the scene. She couldn’t handle the siblings continuous teasing.
"You scared her away," Huo Feng said with his hands folded.
"Gege, you’re the one who scared her. I only followed your lead," Huo Yan shot back with a smirk.
Huo Feng chuckled softly. "Come. Let’s talk in my office."
Huo Yan narrowed her eyes, suddenly suspicious. "Do you want to scold me? Just because Grandma isn’t around anymore doesn’t mean you can keep scolding me. I still have Sister-in-law on my side."
Her voice was playful, but the moment the word Grandma slipped out, Huo Feng stopped in his tracks.
The smile on his lips faded.
Huo Yan blinked, realizing too late what she’d said. The air shifted, heavy and too quiet. The siblings became silent as the memory of the Grandmother sufficed in their hearts.
