Chapter 75: Giving Trouble
Emira trailed after Prince Kael with her head bowed low. There were two reasons for that.
The first was simple-she did not dare to raise her eyes and truly look at what was placed in the long, shadowed hallways. Prince Kael’s sense of interior decoration, was something she preferred to know as little as possible. She’d already seen too much in the living room to last her a lifetime. He had a really strange hobby.
The second reason was far more personal than the first on. She was genuinely afraid of him. After the way he had just tightened his hand around her throat just now, leaving her gasping for breath and trembling when she had not even provoked him... she knew she had every reason to keep her gaze lowered. That was the only way she would survive her mission.
Because of the last few days and under the tempting offer Prince Zen had laid before her, she had allowed herself to forget just how terrifying she had thought he was, the first time she had seen him.
That brief bout of ’amnesia’ had vanished the moment his hand closed around her neck, reminding her that she had probably taken on more than she could chew.
Without warning, Prince Kael came to a stop.
Emira, too lost in her own spiraling thoughts, nearly collided into his back
Her eyes widened and she immediately jumped a step backward. Holy Moon Goddess! What if she had walked into him?
"You will be staying here," he said flatly. "Do not step outside or wander into the rest of the house. Do not touch anything and do not—"
The list of instructions ended abruptly and he turned around to stare at her... Emira wanted to bury herself. Could she please return to Prince Zen. For all his fake warmth, it was better than the coldness here.
How was she supposed to know that her stomach would choose this moment to growl so loudly that Prince Kael would pause in his list of instructions? It was too embarrassing.
While she turned red with embarrassment, Prince Kael turned back and walked away. She slumped and then stared down at her stomach... She’d endured hunger all her life. She’d only been eating well since she became a slave to the Princes and it seemed already her stomach had become spoiled, growling at even the little bit of hunger.
Trying to distract herself from her stomach and from food, Emira stepped quickly into the room and looked around carefully, before breathing out a shaky sigh of relief.
At least this place wasn’t as suffocating as the rest of the house. Unlike the dim corridors and the ’wonderful’ living room display, it was relatively normal. There was a small window in the corner, letting in a little of light and fresh air. It wasn’t much, but it was enough to make the room feel less oppressive and dark.
A simple bed stood in the center, a plain table near the wall, and a modest wooden closet pushed into the corner. That was all. Which meant she could sleep here and even make herself believe that the rest of the house was as normal as this one.
Gingerly, she stepped towards the bed and sat down... And then giggled. This one was so soft. Softer even than the one where Prince Zen had just thrown her on. Carefully, she pressed her palm against it, then leaned back, her body slowly melting into the softness.
The bed reminded her of the bed in the hotel room when she had been in heat. It had been just as soft... So that every time she slept in the middle, she somehow ended up rolling to the side, the moment Prince Zen got into bed next to her. Emira let out a sigh.
Not once had she imagined that she would ever cherish her first heat. She had always believed it would end only in pain and humiliation. After all, she had seen the pain of countless Omegas since she was a kid. She had even thought that her mother had probably lied to her when she said that her experience during the first heat had been beautiful, probably to comfort a younger her.
But, against all her expectations, the Princes had taken care of her, even when they didn’t need to.
It was in that moment she had decided- no matter that her reason for living was revenge, she would never do anything to harm them in the course for it.
Of course, it was only today, she understood the reason for their restraint. Why had they not tried to have sex with her?
Prince Kael and Prince Zen had already found their fated mate. And though they were not yet bonded, sharing a physical relationship with someone else would wound their wolves deeply. It could be done, but it was better not to.
Emira shifted and rolled onto her stomach, as it continued to growl and laid her head on her arms, as she thought. Could it be that the Curse of the Shadow Wolves was also true?
Before she had summoned them and really experienced them coming to her, she had been doubtful of the Shadown wolves’ existence. But now she knew the truth.
Which meant that another lore that her mother had told her about could be the truth. The Curse of the Shadow Triplets.
The Shadow Triplets were very powerful wolves who lay dormant among the Alpha wolves. They were the direct descendants of the Moon goddess.
Because of their separation from her, they had been blessed that they would each receive a fated mate from the Moon Goddess herself... But many centuries ago, something had gone wrong and they had been cursed. Cursed to receive only one mate, to be shared among them. And even then... the mate had to accept the bond with all three of them or else...the bond itself would collapse over time and end in ruin and destruction.
Not many people knew of this lore, so her mother had warned her to not let anyone know, so she had not asked Prince Zen about it. But looking at the situation now, it seemed there was a grain of truth in the lore.
