Chapter 1610 New Challenge

After the matter concluded, Wei Yumeng returned to her work.

The long-awaited work filled Wei Yumeng's life, a feeling she had always cherished.

Although work might reduce her time with family, she always managed to strike a good balance.

"President Zhan, this project represents a completely new breakthrough for us. We haven't developed similar products before, so both material selection and manufacturing will be a test.

If we succeed, it could truly become one of Zhan's Group's new strategies. But if we fail... we might face considerable trouble."

In the conference room, some people voiced their opinions.

For any company, the commencement of a new project is always significant, carrying more symbolic weight than others.

Zhan Mohan pondered for a moment before speaking, "I know what all of you are worried about, but doing business is inherently a gamble.

As long as this project has a fifty percent chance of bringing us a breakthrough, there's no reason not to pursue it. Moreover, if successful, we will be the first company in the country to possess this technology."

"But who can shoulder such responsibility?" someone asked, followed by a sigh.

Perhaps for Zhan Mohan, it was merely a challenge, but for others, whoever took on the task was the most troublesome.

If it succeeded, it would be fine, but if the project failed, the problem would naturally fall on that person, and the responsibility they would have to bear might be more than they could handle.

Unless there was a daredevil, no one would readily take on such a task.

Wei Yumeng scanned the room. Although they whispered amongst themselves, everyone shook their heads, clearly unwilling to volunteer.

This wasn't the first time she had encountered such a situation; the new energy project had also required her to step forward and take responsibility.

Would she have to do it again this time?

With that thought, Wei Yumeng prepared to stand, but she inadvertently caught Zhan Mohan's eye. He shook his head.

Wei Yumeng understood; it seemed Zhan Mohan had other plans for this matter.

The meeting lasted a full three hours but failed to reach a decision, ultimately ending without resolution.

Wei Yumeng followed Zhan Mohan into his office. Puzzled, she looked at him, "Mohan, are we just letting this project go? Honestly, like before, I believe I can handle it."

Zhan Mohan looked at her with a hint of helplessness, "I know your capabilities. However, the purpose of today's meeting was not solely to discuss the project itself. The project is not the ultimate objective."

Wei Yumeng looked at Zhan Mohan, her eyes full of confusion, not understanding his meaning.

"Zhan's Group hasn't had any innovative projects for some time. Therefore, I want to use this project to identify the root cause of the problem."

Wei Yumeng finally understood; it seemed the timid attitudes of the higher-ups were the core issue.

"Mohan, if that's the case, let me take on this project. I will work hard to complete it and show everyone that Zhan's Group's strength is not limited to its current state; we can go even higher and further."

But Zhan Mohan shook his head, "The project does need to be done, but I don't want you to approach it with that mindset. As I said in the meeting, the current success rate is fifty percent, which is why I haven't intended to publicize the project's progress.

Although I hope a successful outcome will shock them, there is still a possibility of failure."

Wei Yumeng nodded, "I understand. If the project fails, it will only make these people more disheartened. Therefore, I must proceed discreetly until there is a result."

Despite saying this, Wei Yumeng's mind was set on success. In her dictionary, giving up easily was not an option.

However, she did feel for Zhan Mohan. Managing a company not only involved securing its interests but also constantly attending to the psychological state of other senior executives. Holding everything in the company firmly in hand was truly not an easy task.

Having accepted the responsibility, Wei Yumeng began her preparations for the project.

Based on her understanding, material procurement was a crucial aspect of developing this new industry.

Having no prior knowledge in this area, she spent considerable time researching and discovered that the best raw materials were located abroad.

"Abroad? Do I need to make a trip?" Wei Yumeng mumbled to herself.

Just then, there was a knock on the office door.

"Come in," Wei Yumeng said, looking up.

The head of the purchasing department and several unfamiliar faces appeared before her.

"Ms. Wei, my name is Liu Wei. President Zhan sent us to assist you. I have considerable experience in material preparation."

The others introduced themselves.

Seeing these people, Wei Yumeng felt a warmth in her heart, recognizing it as Zhan Mohan's thoughtfulness.

"I believe you are all aware of this project. Do you have any suggestions regarding the procurement of materials?"

Liu Wei responded, "Ms. Wei, when it comes to materials, we need to see them in person before we can make a decision. Discussing it here will yield no concrete results."

Wei Yumeng nodded in agreement with Liu Wei's words, which resonated with her own thoughts. Indeed, a trip to that country was necessary to make a definitive decision.

Thus, Wei Yumeng made arrangements for the business trip, and then dismissed the others.

After leaving Wei Yumeng's office, Liu Wei and the others did not immediately return to their work. Instead, they stealthily entered a vacant emergency stairwell nearby.

This area was usually deserted, making it a suitable place for their hushed conversations.

"Director Liu, surprisingly, everything went smoother than we anticipated. I thought we would have to do more convincing."

"Isn't this better? It saves us a lot of trouble. This is also thanks to our President's wife leading by example," Liu Wei said, a peculiar smile playing on his lips.

"But, Director, is it truly alright for us to do this? If President Zhan finds out, we're finished."

Liu Wei scoffed, "So what? We've been working at Zhan's Group for so long, and we should have been promoted and received salary increases by now. Yet, there's been no movement.

We have to do other things for our own benefit. Even if we're discovered, I believe the money those people promised us will be enough to ensure we live comfortably."

As they spoke, their initial worry turned into smugness. What awaited Wei Yumeng in the end?
