Chapter 1644 The Foiled Scheme

Ji Qi looked at the ashen-faced Wei Yumeng, yet his heart was still surging with excitement.

He had finally waited for this day. He had finally found the person he had been searching for.

As long as he united with her today, they would be together forever.

Whether it was in work or in life, Wei Yumeng would never be able to betray him again.

“Miss Wei, oh no, Yumeng, you look stunning today. Did you dress up specifically for me?”

Wei Yumeng had indeed dressed up, but not for Ji Qi. It was for herself.

This might be her last moments in this world, and she wanted to be as beautiful as possible.

She took a deep breath. No matter how repulsive Ji Qi was, she had to suppress her true feelings for the sake of her plan’s success.

“Yes, I did dress up to see you today. After all, this is a special day for me, and for you.”

Hearing this, Ji Qi’s face lit up with joy. “I’m truly happy you feel this way. I’ve actually prepared some gifts for you too. Want to see?”

Wei Yumeng nodded naturally. She had to make Ji Qi let his guard down so she could get close to him.

Ji Qi, beaming, led Wei Yumeng to a separate room. Inside, the bed was covered with all sorts of items.

“I’m sorry, Yumeng. I didn’t know exactly what you liked, so I bought everything you might possibly fancy.”

As Ji Qi spoke, he picked up an item. “Look at this. It’s a diamond ring I designed myself. Its current market value is over a hundred million. And these are two plane tickets. Once we’re together, I’ll take you away from here to live our own lives in another country.”

At the head of the bed sat a large bouquet of roses. To Wei Yumeng, they were a glaring shade of red.

Seeing Wei Yumeng’s gaze drawn to the roses, Ji Qi picked them up and handed them to her. “Do you like this? I ordered this special variety from abroad. They say the reason these flowers are so red is because they are watered with blood.”

Upon hearing this, Wei Yumeng’s grip loosened, and the roses tumbled to the floor, scattering petals everywhere.

How could she possibly like such a thing?

“I’m sorry, Yumeng. I know you might still be angry about my actions, about the methods I used to be with you. But you can at least believe that my feelings for you are sincere.”

Ji Qi took Wei Yumeng’s hand. “How about this? If you stay with me today, I’ll do whatever you say from now on.”

“Really?” Wei Yumeng immediately asked, afraid Ji Qi might go back on his word.

Perhaps if she could convince Ji Qi now, the outcome might not be what she expected.

Once the children were safe, she could just drug Ji Qi with sleeping pills and escape.

Seeing Wei Yumeng’s expectant gaze, Ji Qi certainly wouldn’t disappoint her.

“I won’t lie to you.”

“Then I want you to release the children now.”

“Of course!” Ji Qi said, and actually pulled out his phone.

But just as his hand hovered over the keypad, he paused.

“Yumeng, since I promised to release the children, I will naturally do so. It just needs a little more time. Wouldn’t it be better to release them simultaneously, once we are truly together? Then we can leave together.”

Wei Yumeng frowned. This Ji Qi was indeed not easy to deal with.

Since that was the case, for the sake of her children, she had no choice but to proceed with her original plan.

“Alright.” Wei Yumeng nodded, then her eyes fell on the red wine on the table. “Since I’ve chosen you today, there should be some sense of ceremony. Why don’t you go take a shower first?”

As soon as Ji Qi heard this, he became even more energized. He hadn’t expected Wei Yumeng to be more eager than him.

“Okay, I’ll go wash up now. Wait for me.” Before leaving, Ji Qi even kissed Wei Yumeng on the cheek.

Only after Ji Qi entered the bathroom did Wei Yumeng meticulously wash her face.

She picked up the red wine from the table, poured two glasses, and then dropped the sleeping pills she had brought into one of them.

Perhaps she could have directly added poison and ended it all, but she wasn’t a ruthless person and couldn’t bring herself to kill him directly.

If she could escape while he was unconscious, that would be even better.

With everything prepared, Wei Yumeng sat on the sofa, as if nothing had happened, waiting for Ji Qi to appear.

When Ji Qi emerged from the bathroom, he saw Wei Yumeng gracefully seated on the sofa, savoring a glass of red wine.

The scene was a visual feast. Just the thought of being with Wei Yumeng forever filled him with happiness.

“Come here,” Wei Yumeng beckoned. “This red wine is quite good. Would you like to try some?”

Ji Qi’s mind was already hazy from Wei Yumeng’s allure. He walked over and reached for the wine glass.

Wei Yumeng’s heart pounded. As long as Ji Qi drank that glass of wine, her plan would be half-successful.

But just as Ji Qi’s lips touched the rim of the glass, he stopped and looked at Wei Yumeng.

After a moment of thought, he put down his own glass, grabbed Wei Yumeng’s wrist, and then, just like that, drank all the wine from Wei Yumeng’s glass.

Wei Yumeng froze. She didn’t know if Ji Qi had done it intentionally or if it was a coincidence.

He had just escaped her trap!

Ji Qi, seeing Wei Yumeng’s stunned expression, smiled and explained.

“Yumeng, I know you’re very smart. You wouldn’t willingly follow me. So… I had no choice but to use some drastic measures. In fact, I tampered with your phone. I know exactly how you plan to deal with me. For example, that glass of wine, it had sleeping pills in it, didn’t it?”

Wei Yumeng, her plan exposed, suddenly felt a chill run through her entire body. Fear spread throughout her.

Now her plan was a joke, and her only escape route had been cut off by Ji Qi.

Ji Qi continued on his own, “Don’t be scared. I won’t blame you for this. I know my own actions were somewhat questionable, and it’s only natural for you to detest me.

However, I still hope that in the future, if we have any problems, you’ll choose a more gentle way to resolve them. Otherwise, I’ll have to resort to special measures to deal with you.”

With that, Ji Qi pulled Wei Yumeng up and led her towards the bedroom. From here on, he would have Wei Yumeng completely.

Wei Yumeng was practically dragged forward by Ji Qi. Every step she took was heavy.

With each step, she was drawn closer to the abyss of hell. Perhaps soon, she would completely vanish from this world.

Mo Han…

At this moment, only this name echoed in Wei Yumeng’s mind. But Zhan Mohan was still abroad, and there was no way he could rush back.
