Chapter 1658 Things Change, People Remain

The workday ended, and Wei Yumeng returned home with Zhan Mohan.

Wei Yumeng found it a little strange that Zhan Mohan, who was supposed to have a cross-border conference, had returned with her.

Wei Yumeng had a feeling something was up; Zhan Mohan’s behavior had been odd these past few days.

Finally, she approached Zhan Mohan and voiced her concerns.

“Mohan, I feel like you’ve been a bit strange these past few days. Did something happen?”

Zhan Mohan looked at Wei Yumeng helplessly. He had tried his best to disguise his feelings, but had he been exposed?

Although he felt uncomfortable seeing Song Yifan interact with Wei Yumeng, he also knew that their relationship was purely professional.

Given this, he didn’t want his personal emotions to affect Wei Yumeng’s work mood.

“Nothing,” Zhan Mohan simply said, pulling Wei Yumeng into his arms.

But as Wei Yumeng thought about it, Zhan Mohan’s strange behavior had started after Song Yifan appeared. Could it be that…

He had been full of jealousy after she took Song Yifan for an inspection that day, and he hadn’t really explained it to her. Had he been jealous ever since?

The more Wei Yumeng thought about it, the more likely it seemed. She had been looking for an opportunity to tell Zhan Mohan about her past relationship with Song Yifan, and perhaps now was the time.

“Mohan, I have something to confess.”

Zhan Mohan then released Wei Yumeng, looking at her with utmost seriousness.

“Actually, Song Yifan and I aren’t meeting for the first time. We’ve known each other for a long time.”

As Wei Yumeng spoke, she observed Zhan Mohan’s reaction. “We dated for a while when we were in school, but we broke up because we went our separate ways after graduation. I never expected to meet him again under these circumstances.

Seeing him again, I felt a bit unaccustomed. I didn’t know what kind of identity or attitude I should use to receive him.”

“I see,” Zhan Mohan said with understanding. “No wonder I felt you two were so familiar when I saw you together.”

“But Mohan, I want you to know that even if we were together in the past, that’s all in the past. I am your wife now, and that will never change, no matter what happens.”

Wei Yumeng spoke, a little worried that Zhan Mohan might not be reassured. “If you’re really not at ease, I can withdraw from this project. It’s not like I’m the only one who can do it.”

Hearing this, Zhan Mohan simply curved his lips. “The fact that you can be so honest with me shows your trust. Since that’s the case, what reason do I have not to trust you? You can continue with the project, but there’s one thing I hope you’ll remember.”

“What?” Wei Yumeng asked, her eyes full of questions.

“If you encounter any trouble or difficulties during the project, you must tell me. Don’t always try to handle it yourself, understand?”

“Okay,” Wei Yumeng nodded. She had expected Zhan Mohan to ask her to keep her distance from Song Yifan, but it turned out to be just this.

In the end, the person Zhan Mohan cared about the most was still her.

With Wei Yumeng’s explanation, Zhan Mohan’s heart felt much lighter. Although he couldn’t completely let go of his doubts, since Wei Yumeng had clarified everything, he could only choose to believe her.

Besides, he was confident in their relationship.

Perhaps because this matter had finally been understood by Zhan Mohan, Wei Yumeng felt much more at ease when facing Song Yifan the next day.

In reality, things weren’t as complicated as she had initially felt. As long as she was clear about her own position and did what she needed to do, that was enough.

“Yumeng, you look quite energetic today,” Song Yifan said with a smile.

Wei Yumeng looked at him with a hint of apology. “I’m truly sorry for making you worry these past few days.”

“It’s alright. I didn’t do much anyway, and I can understand how you felt.”

Wei Yumeng had been flustered by their reunion, and so had he.

Even now, he hadn’t found an answer for himself.

Wei Yumeng took a deep breath. Today was her first inspection of the project site, and she had to maintain a better state of mind.

So, they walked towards the construction site together.

“Madam, Mr. Song, the site has officially commenced construction. The markers you see on the ground are the areas demarcated according to the blueprints. This area will be the main product display zone, this is the experience zone, and this is the rest area…”

The construction site staff explained everything carefully to them.

Although at this stage it was just a rudimentary form, Wei Yumeng could already envision the finished project just by listening to the descriptions.

“Oh, right,” she suddenly remembered something. “Have you made arrangements for the Western-style exhibition hall I mentioned earlier?”

This was something Song Yifan had also proposed. Since the product had intentions for overseas development, adjustments would need to be made in terms of product display.

“It has been adjusted. Here are our latest blueprints.”

Just as the staff member was about to present the next set of blueprints, they suddenly heard shouting from not too far away.

“Quick, get out of the way! Get out of the way!”

Before Wei Yumeng could react, Song Yifan pulled her and they quickly moved to the side.

“What’s going on?” Song Yifan asked, clearly annoyed. If Wei Yumeng had been hit just now, he wouldn’t have let the person responsible off.

The worker was also terrified. “I… I don’t know what happened. I just opened the machine as usual, and it malfunctioned and charged towards you two.”

Wei Yumeng quickly mediated. “It’s alright. Machines malfunction sometimes. Fortunately, no one was injured today. Please be more careful with safety while working here in the future.”

Wei Yumeng’s understanding warmed the worker’s heart. It was rare for someone to care so much about the workers.

Song Yifan wanted to say more, but since Wei Yumeng had spoken, he had to suppress his anger.

“Yumeng, are you really alright? Come sit over here, let me check.”

As he spoke, he casually reached for Wei Yumeng’s arm, but Wei Yumeng awkwardly pulled her arm away.

“I’m really fine. Thanks to you pulling me away just now, I’m alright.”

Song Yifan then realized his action might have been inappropriate and said sheepishly, “It’s good that you’re alright. But if you feel uncomfortable anywhere, you must tell me.”

“Okay,” Wei Yumeng nodded.

“You’re still the same as you were,” Song Yifan said with a hint of helplessness. “I still remember that time you were injured, but you insisted you were fine and didn’t want me to worry, and then you fainted during gym class.”

Wei Yumeng looked a bit embarrassed. “That was different then. You had exams, and I didn’t want to affect you.”

Song Yifan just smiled. The time they spent together in the past was too beautiful, which made the present even more poignant for him.

Things had changed, and people had moved on. What more could he do?
