Chapter 125 Burning the Boats

Li Sao was also unsure, "It's just that I feel that the young master was particularly good to Wei Yumeng when he left this morning, and last night a servant saw Wei Yumeng being carried back by the young master."

These two, a man and a woman, alone in a room, and so intimate, doesn't that explain everything?

Wen Yulan's hand holding the cup tightened unconsciously, her face contorted with ferocity, showing no trace of the dignity of a wealthy lady.

"I said it, if we let the two of them continue like this, there will be problems sooner or later. If she gets pregnant then, this family will have nothing to do with us."

"Then what should we do?" Li Sao also began to panic. If the two of them develop feelings and have a relationship, then getting pregnant would only be a matter of one or two months.

Wen Yulan also began to consider her options. If this were the case, she should make preparations for Yichen.

If necessary, she would at least protect the Zhan family's assets. Other matters could be dealt with later.

"Alright, you go find someone to confirm it first."

Li Sao asked, "Go now?"

"Yes, go now, quickly." Wen Yulan was in a panic. With the Zhan family's immense fortune, if it all fell into the hands of Zhan Mohan and Wei Yumeng, where would she and Zhan Yichen have a place in this household?

If necessary, she would have to strike first.

Within a few minutes, Li Sao returned, and Wen Yulan hastily asked.

"How is it? Did you find out?"

"I asked. This morning when the maid went to clean the room, she seemed to have seen clothes scattered on the floor, and the bedsheets. This morning, the young master specifically asked the maid to change to a new set, and there was... that in the trash can."

Wen Yulan knitted her brows, her face ashen.

"Why are you saying so much nonsense? Just say she's pregnant."

"Then Madam, what do we do now? If they really plan to have a child to compete with the second young master for assets, our second young master will be at a disadvantage."

Wen Yulan's eyes flickered with a sinister light that made Li Sao shiver.

"Since they want to get ahead of us, they must have their plans foiled. You help me arrange a meeting with the Wei family tomorrow."

Li Sao looked at Wen Yulan in horror, "Madam, are you going to..."

"Burn the bridges behind us. Since they both have their plans, we can't just sit and wait. Wei Jin dislikes Wei Yumeng the most, right? She'll definitely help us deal with her. Once the assets are secured, we'll find an excuse for Yichen to divorce her."

Although she indeed wanted Zhan Yichen to find someone from a suitable family, the situation was urgent, and she couldn't wait any longer. Seeing that the Wei family didn't intend to let go anytime soon, she was too lazy to waste time with those insignificant families.

Li Sao thought about it and felt it was acceptable.

"Currently, this is the only way."

Wei Yumeng was busy arranging the dishes downstairs, unaware that Wen Yulan was already planning to find her an opponent.

Zhan Mohan returned, looking travel-worn, clearly having just finished his work. As soon as he stepped across the threshold, he smelled the aroma, and the familiar scent of his favorite pickled fish.

Fang Xun behind him was also salivating.

"It smells so good, Mr. Zhan."

Zhan Mohan's pace quickened as he entered. The sight that greeted him was a table full of dishes, with a cake placed in the center. Both the selection of dishes and their arrangement showed that the person had put in a lot of effort.

At first, he thought Wen Yulan had ordered it done, as his stepmother always made a show of it every year, pretending to be affectionate towards him and his mother.

Zhang Ma came out with drinks. Seeing Zhan Mohan return, she called out.

"Young Master is back, please have a seat first. The Young Madam has been waiting for you for a long time."

Zhan Mohan raised his eyebrows in surprise, "Did Wei Yumeng make all of this?"

"Yes, Young Madam heard it was your birthday today and was afraid there wouldn't be enough time, so she specially ordered a cake and prepared these dishes. It exhausted her. She went upstairs to take a bath since you hadn't returned."

Fang Xun chuckled behind Zhan Mohan, "I told you the Madam cares about you. As for marital affection, it can be cultivated slowly."

Zhan Mohan glanced at Fang Xun.

"Say one more unnecessary word, and you won't have dinner tonight."

For the sake of good food, Fang Xun quickly shut his mouth. However, just looking at it, the dishes seemed very appetizing. Mr. Zhan was truly blessed in the future.

Wei Yumeng took a bath upstairs to avoid smelling of oil. Zhan Mohan seemed to have some潔癖 (jié pí - germophobia/cleanliness obsession). She noticed his desk was always spotless. She should wash herself clean to avoid angering him.

As she reached the top of the stairs, she saw the man standing by the dining table, impeccably dressed in a suit. Though she could only see his profile from this angle, it was captivating. Especially his chiseled features and smooth lines, as if he had been greatly favored by the creator.

Fang Xun was the first to see Wei Yumeng at the top of the stairs and quietly reminded Zhan Mohan.

"Mr. Zhan, Madam."

The man slightly raised his eyes. Their gazes met. Wei Yumeng's pupils trembled, and her heart skipped a beat. His eyes were meaningful, filled with emotions she couldn't comprehend.

His thin lips parted slightly, "How did you know it was my birthday today?"

"Zhang Ma told me," she replied truthfully.

"Come down and eat." Zhan Mohan said no more, and directly sat down.

Fang Xun also sat down awkwardly. He glanced at Wei Yumeng sitting opposite him, then at Zhan Mohan, who remained silent.

Why did the atmosphere feel so strange? Shouldn't this be a harmonious moment?

Zhang Ma suddenly said, "Young Master, the Young Madam also bought you a cake. There's a card inside from her, handwritten."

"Is that so?" His voice was cold, seemingly displeased, but he still reached out, untied the string of the cake box, and took out the packaging. Inside lay an exquisite card. He picked it up with two fingers and opened it.

Her handwriting was delicate and elegant, just like her. The content was simple and somewhat cliché, as if copied from the internet.

Zhan Mohan:

Happy birthday. I hope your life will be smooth sailing, and that you'll smile more each day. You look very handsome when you smile.

He scoffed. Smooth sailing. His life had indeed been smooth before he met her. But after that car accident, he had been close to depression for a while.

He, who was always calm and composed, was actually a little afraid today of facing Zhan Lin. He was afraid that the outcome would be unfavorable to her.

Although Fang Xun's words were unpleasant, they also served as a reminder. He realized later that he had indeed broken many of his rules for this woman.

Even he himself felt somewhat unfamiliar now. Clearly, he had never been swayed by women before, and no one could interfere with his decisions or disrupt his thoughts.

Somewhere along the line, where had things gone wrong?
