"I'm here to request leave," Wei Yumeng suppressed the discomfort in her heart.
"Come in with me," Zhan Mohan glanced at her coldly, in a perfunctory manner.
Seeing Zhan Mohan turn to leave, Feng Shiming hurried forward.
"Brother Mohan, wait for me."
"Shiming, go take care of other things. There's a batch of clients you need to review today. Screen their projects."
"But Brother Mohan..."
"Go."
Zhan Mohan's warm palm patted Feng Shiming's shoulder, his voice gentle, unlike his attitude towards Wei Yumeng, which could be described as icy, chilling one to the bone.
Feng Shiming could also feel the disparity in Zhan Mohan's attitude towards her and Wei Yumeng. The slight she had just suffered at Wei Yumeng's expense suddenly felt worth it.
As long as Brother Mohan had her in his heart, it didn't matter how much hardship she endured outside.
What if she was just the woman behind him? She didn't mind. It was better than being a nominal wife, not receiving any care from Brother Mohan.
She nodded obediently, "Then, after you're done, shall we go out for dinner tonight?"
"Okay, come find me when you're done." Zhan Mohan was surprisingly agreeable today.
Wei Yumeng stood aside, feeling like an extra, even... somewhat of an eyesore.
Feng Shiming's happiness returned with Zhan Mohan's few words. As she walked past Wei Yumeng, she didn't forget to give her a provocative smile.
Wei Yumeng followed Zhan Mohan inside. She was about to speak.
"Zhan..."
"Close the door."
She could only turn around and close the door. Biting her lip, she felt that Zhan Mohan seemed very unhappy. Was it still because of yesterday's incident?
But why should he be unhappy? Shouldn't she be the one who was unhappy?
Last night, he had shared a bed with Feng Shiming, indulging in romance...
Realizing she was starting to overthink, she quickly shook her head, desperately trying to push those irrelevant thoughts aside.
She cleared her throat and said to Zhan Mohan,
"Mr. Zhan, you know my mother's situation, so I'd like to request leave."
"How many days?" Zhan Mohan sat in his office chair, his gaze indifferent. The cigarette in his fingertip was burning, a faint spark flickering.
"Perhaps half a month." She had asked the doctor today. The doctor said that Gu Shuyi's condition would require at least half a month of observation to see if there were any further changes in other illnesses.
And the blood clot in her brain had not been completely cleared.
Zhan Mohan stood up and walked to Wei Yumeng. The man's imposing presence washed over her, a faint scent of tobacco mixed with mint.
His eyes were sharp and cold as ice, his expression chilling.
"Wei Yumeng, what do you think Zhan's Group is? Half a month's leave, if you take half a month off here, you're basically resigning."
Wei Yumeng was somewhat troubled, "Can't there be any flexibility?"
The man's thick eyebrows rose, his eyes as cold and devoid of warmth as icebergs on a snowy mountain.
"Flexibility? Tell me, on what grounds should I be flexible with you?"
In front of Chu Zian and Xin Ran, when had he ever said he was her husband? Wasn't he still entangled with those two men?
And now she dared to talk about flexibility? How could she be so shameless?
Wei Yumeng bit her lip tightly, her face pale.
"I won't dwell on what happened between you and Feng Shiming. Can you also stop deliberately making things difficult for me?"
"What happened between me and Feng Shiming?" Zhan Mohan's face darkened. He grabbed her waist with a large hand, forcing himself closer, his masculine breath spraying onto her face.
Wei Yumeng's face turned pale, startled by his sudden approach. Did he think that what happened with Feng Shiming could be hidden?
She hadn't even bothered to pursue the matter, only asking for his approval for her leave, yet he was here, roaring at her aggressively.
Feeling wronged and angry, she became somewhat reckless.
"What exactly happened between you and Feng Shiming last night? Do I need to spell it out for you?"
She yelled, suppressing the panic in her heart.
Zhan Mohan frowned. Beneath his heroic brows, his eyes were as cold and piercing as black obsidian, dazzling and enchanting, emitting a chilling light.
"Who told you?"
He was just curious. Wei Yumeng was in the hospital, so how would she know that Feng Shiming had gone to his room last night?
But in Wei Yumeng's heart, Zhan Mohan didn't mean it that way. She smiled sadly.
"Are you afraid people will know what you did? So, Mr. Zhan, you're just a hypocrite. You can be alone with Feng Shiming, but I can't even exchange a few words with a colleague or pass a file."
At least she had never done anything to betray him.
Now that the truth was out, his face remained calm and composed, without a trace of guilt.
That's right. Feng Shiming was right. Zhan Mohan's actions towards her were purely for the sake of appearances. After all, it was quite embarrassing for the young master of the Zhan family to divorce so soon after getting married. Wealthy families never cared about love, only about interests.
"Wei Yumeng, don't use various excuses to dismiss me and make them capital for you to negotiate with me."
Wei Yumeng could tell from his tone that Zhan Mohan's attitude was very firm.
"If that's the case, then I can only resign."
The man's dangerous eyes narrowed, "Are you threatening me?"
"I have no intention of threatening you. It's just that I can't abandon my mother. If I can't even save my mother's life, what use is money to me?"
Wei Yumeng wasn't indifferent to what happened between him and Feng Shiming, but she didn't have the extra energy to focus on it right now. She just wanted Gu Shuyi to get better as soon as possible.
"Then tell me, a woman who was talking about divorce with me yesterday, now wants to take a shortcut from me. Do you think that's possible?"
He, Zhan Mohan, wasn't someone who would go out of his way to please Wei Yumeng. Everyone had pride, and his pride was even greater. But that didn't mean Wei Yumeng could trample on it.
It seemed that all his efforts for her during this period had been in vain.
Wei Yumeng suddenly didn't know what to say. She felt very annoyed and frustrated.
Since Zhan Mohan wouldn't agree, she naturally had her own ways. At worst, she wouldn't take her salary this month.
"I can't appease your anger, Mr. Zhan, so it's best not to meet. I've disturbed you today."
She pushed him away and walked towards the door without hesitation. She closed the door in one smooth motion, her back straight. Her stubbornness had resurfaced.
Zhan Mohan clenched his lowered hand into a fist, his eyes scarlet and terrifying.
He called out loudly, "Fang Xun!"
Fang Xun quickly opened the door, "Zhan Zong."
"Go and investigate how the Madam found out about what happened last night."
"Do you want to investigate? But the Madam seemed... not to care much just now."
Even if they investigated, they would only find out who told the Madam. The key was the Madam's own view on the matter.
Fang Xun's words only worsened Zhan Mohan's mood. Seeing another woman alone with him, could she really be so indifferent?
