Wei Yumeng couldn't quite process everything.
Her silence, however, became the fuse for Zhan Mohan's anger. His expression darkened instantly, his long fingers clenching. He gritted his teeth.
"Wei Yumeng, you truly live up to my expectations!"
In her gaze, he seemed to see not just a surge of anger, but also deep pain. She knew she had been misunderstood by Zhan Mohan.
She desperately wanted to get down and explain to him, but she was completely undressed. Moreover, with Fang Xun present, she didn't dare to move an inch.
"Zhan Mohan, believe me, I don't know what's going on, I..."
"Wei Yumeng, stop talking. The evidence is conclusive, what are you still trying to deny!"
Zhan Mohan's gaze towards her was filled with disappointment, a coldness creeping into the corners of his eyes.
"I really don't know what's going on." Wei Yumeng wasn't lying. She turned to Xin Ran for help, "Xin Ran, please explain to Zhan Mohan, nothing happened between us, right?"
Xin Ran lowered his gaze slightly, and the words he spoke made Wei Yumeng feel as if she had fallen into an abyss.
"Yumeng, I'm sorry, I can't say that nothing happened."
Xin Ran's words were like a bolt from the blue to her. She couldn't help but widen her eyes and exclaim.
"Xin... Xin Ran, what are you talking about? Nothing happened between us."
"Don't you remember what happened between us?"
"I..." Wei Yumeng was completely stunned. Her expression was stiff, and the suddenness of the events left her with no idea how to respond.
She had no memory of anything happening between her and Xin Ran.
"Let's get a divorce." He would not settle for a marriage like this. Wei Yumeng could make any mistake, but betrayal was absolutely unacceptable to him.
Seeing his disappointed gaze, Wei Yumeng felt a dull ache in her heart. She didn't understand why, when Zhan Mohan brought up divorce, her heart would ache so much that she could barely breathe.
Xin Ran quickly tried to explain for Wei Yumeng, "Mr. Zhan, please don't be angry with Yumeng. It's all my fault, I was just for a moment... Please don't blame her."
Zhan Mohan frowned, a thin layer of anger rising in his eyes.
"It would have been better if you hadn't spoken. The moment you did, I wanted to tear you to shreds. Since you dared to touch my woman, you must pay the price. This time, I won't be lenient with your Xin family."
He, Zhan Mohan, would not tolerate being cuckolded. He would not lose face for nothing.
Xin Ran's words, instead of helping Wei Yumeng, only brought trouble upon himself.
Zhan Mohan turned away resolutely, not even glancing at Wei Yumeng. As he walked out the door, he instructed Fang Xun behind him.
"This matter should not be publicized. The Zhan family cannot afford to lose face. You go and speak to the media."
"Yes."
After Zhan Mohan left, Fang Xun didn't know what to say. He was just extremely disappointed in Wei Yumeng. Mr. Zhan treated her so well, how could she... how could she do something like this?
This was clearly slapping Mr. Zhan in the face, making the Zhan family unable to hold their heads up in the future.
After Fang Xun also left, Wei Yumeng quickly put on her clothes, her face flushed with shame, feeling like she was about to die.
"What on earth happened? How could you and I..."
No matter what, she couldn't believe that anything had happened between her and Xin Ran. If it had, why would she have no memory of it at all?
"You drank with me at lunch, said you felt dizzy, and then..."
Even if Xin Ran didn't say the rest, Wei Yumeng should have understood what it meant, but she couldn't believe it.
"How is that possible? I only had a sip." Wei Yumeng knew her alcohol tolerance wasn't particularly high, but it wasn't so bad that she would get drunk after a sip or two and not remember anything.
"That wine was a bit strong," Xin Ran finally attributed it to this sentence.
Wei Yumeng waved her hand, clearly still in shock. Her mind was blank, and she couldn't think straight at this moment.
"I can't do this. I can't process this right now. Xin Ran, it's impossible between us. I need to make this clear to you."
She had already told him clearly at noon that she never had any romantic feelings for him.
Who would have thought that such a thing would happen now?
Xin Ran frowned. He thought everything would go according to his plan, that as long as he got Wei Yumeng, Zhan Mohan would push for a divorce, and he could take all the blame. As long as Zhan Mohan didn't blame Wei Yumeng, but now she was telling him it was impossible between them.
Then what did she want?
"Do you still want to be with Zhan Mohan? Didn't you say before that if it weren't for your father's coercion, you wouldn't have married him? If Zhan Mohan hadn't known you were leaving last time, you and your mother would already be living the life you wanted."
"But it was also because of Zhan Mohan that my mother could continue to be treated in the hospital."
"Did you forget that if he hadn't stopped you from visiting your mother, she wouldn't have had a stroke and become paralyzed? Yumeng, what's wrong with you? You used to hate Zhan Mohan so much, you wanted to leave him so badly, why are you always defending him now?"
Xin Ran had never expected that Wei Yumeng's attitude towards Zhan Mohan would change so drastically in such a short period. A bad premonition welled up in his heart.
Wei Yumeng herself didn't know how to explain it. Anyway, she didn't seem to be as disgusted with Zhan Mohan as before, and sometimes even...
She retracted her thoughts, "Alright, we'll talk about this later. But Xin Ran, I hope you can think clearly. Did something really happen between us?"
Xin Ran tilted his head and answered very seriously.
"Such a thing, would I lie to you? If you don't want to divorce Zhan Mohan, I can go to him and say that nothing happened between us, if he's willing to believe it."
The latter half of the sentence carried a hint of petulance.
She didn't know what to say for a moment. She needed to calm down and deal with this.
"I need to go back now."
Xin Ran looked at her and asked, "Do you like Zhan Mohan?"
Otherwise, why would she have looked so reluctant when Zhan Mohan proposed divorce?
And her tone and attitude now were completely opposite to when they first got together.
Wei Yumeng's expression stiffened, and her heart sank. Were her feelings for Zhan Mohan already so obvious? Even Xin Ran could tell that she was different towards Zhan Mohan.
Seeing Wei Yumeng's silence, Xin Ran had an answer in his heart. His gentle and refined face showed hurt.
Even after all he had done, Wei Yumeng was still unwilling to divorce Zhan Mohan. What else could this be if not love?
She gripped the door handle and tactfully refused Xin Ran.
"I'm sorry, this is my private matter."
The door was closed again. Xin Ran sat on the bed, his hands clenched into fists, and he slammed them heavily against the wall, his face filled with anger.
Why, why did she still fall for him after Zhan Mohan treated her that way? Couldn't she see his kindness?
No matter what, this time, he was determined to make them divorce. Only he would cherish Yumeng. Zhan Mohan was simply using her as a disposable tool.
And he threatened her with Gu Shuyi at every turn.
Wei Yumeng stepped out of the hotel, feeling dizzy and disoriented. Looking at the pedestrians passing by, she suddenly felt her world collapsing.
Zhan Mohan must be furious seeing such a scene. If the Zhan family found out, she didn't know what she would face.
She took out her phone and called Zhan Mohan, but he didn't answer. When she called again, he had blocked her.
It seemed she had truly angered him.
But she really didn't know what had happened. She only remembered going to find Xin Ran at the club at noon and drinking a little, but that little bit of alcohol couldn't possibly have made her drunk.
Had Xin Ran deliberately gotten her drunk and sent her to the hotel? Was his intention to make her divorce Zhan Mohan?
However, deep down, she was unwilling to believe that Xin Ran would do such a thing. He had helped her so much before, how could he scheme against her in such a serious matter?
Helplessly, she could only go to the company to explain things to Zhan Mohan.
