She took a piece of clothing and rushed it to the meeting room, only to run into Zhan Mohan and Fang Shizhou coming out after their talk.
Once Wei Yumeng stopped, she apologized to Fang Shizhou.
"I'm sorry, President Fang. It was my negligence at work today that made you witness such a scene."
Fang Shizhou exchanged a look with Zhan Mohan and chuckled, "It's alright, it's alright. Everyone makes mistakes. Just be more careful in the future."
Wei Yumeng was surprised that Fang Shizhou forgave her so quickly. It was a bit unexpected.
She didn't dwell on the matter and instead handed the clothing to Zhan Mohan.
"President Zhan, you should change into another outfit. I'll take this jacket to the dry cleaners later."
Fang Shizhou smiled meaningfully, "Yes, President Zhan, you have a meeting to attend later. You should change your clothes. Look how caring the female employee is."
Zhan Mohan chuckled softly, "President Fang is right."
He took the jacket from Wei Yumeng, changed out of his own, and handed the stained one back to Wei Yumeng.
"There's a dry cleaner downstairs."
"Okay," Wei Yumeng took it, slinging it over her arm. She watched Zhan Mohan and Fang Shizhou enter the elevator. Then, she stared at the tens of thousands of yuan jacket in her hands.
For some reason, she suddenly brought it to her nose. A unique masculine scent enveloped her, crisp and pleasant.
With a slight smile, she took the jacket and went to the employee elevator, then left the company.
After dropping the jacket at the dry cleaners, she took the receipt and prepared to return to the company. As she stepped onto the stairs, her phone rang again. Seeing an unfamiliar number, she wondered if her online shopping had arrived.
When she slid to answer, a soft, effeminate male voice spoke.
"It's been a while, have you missed me?"
Wei Yumeng froze. The voice was indeed familiar, but his words made her feel utterly lost. She was sure she hadn't dated anyone other than Zhan Mohan.
She had no idea who this man on the phone was.
She asked cautiously, "Did you call the wrong number?"
"Miss Wei."
"My surname is Wei. Then who are you..."
"You took the blame for Ni Meimei's hit-and-run with Zhan Mohan and his brother. Do you want evidence?"
The person's intention was clear, and Wei Yumeng didn't need to guess why he was looking for her.
Her brow furrowed, and her heart was filled with suspicion. "Who are you?"
"Today at seven o'clock, at Jian Shiguang Cafe. You'll know when you come."
"I..."
Before Wei Yumeng could finish, the other party had already hung up.
She tried calling back, but the phone was turned off. This puzzled her. Not many people knew about the car accident, yet this person claimed to have evidence.
Although Zhan Mohan hadn't pursued the matter for a long time, it remained an insurmountable barrier between them.
She still wanted to clarify what happened back then and explain it to Zhan Mohan. She didn't want to bear a burden that wasn't hers.
As it neared seven o'clock, Wei Yumeng checked the time. She grabbed a quick bite at a fast-food restaurant near the company and headed directly to Jian Shiguang Cafe. She would find out who it was when she got there.
Besides, in a public place, even if the other party wanted to plot against her, they would have to be somewhat mindful.
For now, she decided to keep it from Zhan Mohan. If he asked later, she wouldn't know how to explain.
She walked straight in. The cafe wasn't very crowded at this time. Wei Yumeng immediately spotted Zhao Qiansheng sitting in the corner, and her heart skipped a beat.
Memories from the past few weeks flashed through her mind. How could Zhao Qiansheng dare to find her? Furthermore, how would he know about the car accident?
Regardless, she had come this far, and she had to get to the bottom of it.
She took a deep breath and approached him with a cold expression.
"How could it be you?"
Zhao Qiansheng was holding a cup of coffee, dressed in a khaki trench coat. He was already tall and slender, with a touch of effeminate grace in his features that gave him an ancient charm. However, after his flirtatious remarks and attempted advances at the bar last time, she had lost all interest in him.
He raised an eyebrow and spoke in a gentle tone.
"Why couldn't it be me? We've met before, so it's only natural to greet each other."
Wei Yumeng sat down, her expression indifferent, unwilling to even glance at him.
"Speak. How do you know about the car accident?"
Zhao Qiansheng toyed with a rose in his hand, his tone playful.
"What if I told you I saw it in your dream?"
Wei Yumeng's patience was completely exhausted. She pushed herself up from the table.
"Since you're not willing to say, then we have nothing to talk about."
"Are you really going to let this rift between you and Zhan Mohan persist, and forever carry this stigma? Perhaps he's not mentioning it now, but what about in the future? What if one day you have children? The misunderstanding between you will only deepen."
Wei Yumeng's body stiffened. Her intuition told her that someone must have told Zhao Qiansheng about her. Otherwise, how would he know so much?
Since he knew about it, she couldn't let him spread rumors outside.
"Fine. You say you know I'm innocent. Then tell me, where is the evidence?"
Zhao Qiansheng let out a cold laugh. "Don't rush. We've only just started talking, and you're already in such a hurry for evidence. There's no free lunch in this world. You have to pay something."
His meaning was obvious. His gaze, without any concealment, had been fixed on her since she walked in.
Wei Yumeng felt extremely uncomfortable and even repulsed by his stare.
"What do you want?"
Zhao Qiansheng was direct. He had never hidden his intentions towards Wei Yumeng.
Wei Yumeng saw him pull a hotel room card from his chest and hand it to her.
"You know what I mean. I've liked you since the first moment I saw you. Don't worry, just this once, and I won't pester you any further."
Zhao Qiansheng clearly stated his purpose.
Anger surged within Wei Yumeng. If she could, she would have slapped Zhao Qiansheng across the face, but she restrained herself.
If he truly had evidence that could prove her innocence, at least she wouldn't have to take the blame for Wei Jin anymore.
No one wanted to be labeled a murderer. She also wanted a clear conscience for the rest of her life.
Seeing her hesitation, Zhao Qiansheng didn't force her.
"I won't pressure you. If you want to come, you come. If not, just pretend I never said anything."
With that, he got up and left the cafe. Wei Yumeng looked at the room card on the table, deep in thought...
