Chapter 5 The Mysterious Man

The door was suddenly pushed open with great force. Wei Yumeng almost froze on the spot. Why did the man barging in look so similar to Zhan Mohan? Especially his eyes and nose, they were almost identical.

"It's this woman! How could you bring this murderer here and let her marry my brother!"

Zhan Yichen stepped forward and roughly pulled Wei Yumeng off Zhan Mohan, his face filled with rage.

"Yichen, let her go first." Old Master Zhan walked in, leaning on his cane. His voice was calm but carried an authority that demanded obedience.

Wei Yumeng frowned and shook her wrist. What kind of rotten luck had she stumbled upon today? After kneeling before Zhan Mohan, she was now being treated so rudely by this inexplicable man.

Old Master Zhan said to Wei Yumeng, "This is Ah Han's younger brother, Zhan Yichen."

Upon hearing the introduction, Wei Yumeng finally understood. So, he was Zhan Mohan's brother, no wonder he held such animosity towards her.

"Hello."

"What's there to be hello about? Who let you into our house? If it weren't for you, my brother wouldn't be paralyzed?"

He wished he could skin this Wei Yumeng alive.

On the subject, Wei Yumeng felt it was necessary to explain: "That car was indeed driven by me, but I didn't crash it. I had already gotten out of the car, and it wasn't my car."

She had been working as a designated driver. Mid-journey, the passenger said he felt unwell and needed to buy medicine, so she went to get it. When she came out, the car and the passenger were gone. Later, she heard about a car accident. She only found out that someone had been hit when the police contacted her. She was told it was serious and asked to cooperate with the investigation.

Afterward, Wei Anguo found her and said the matter had been handled, so she didn't inquire further.

"You're lying! We have photos, and that was the car you were driving. If it weren't for that fortune teller saying you could make my brother stand up again, do you think you'd be here so peacefully? You'd be locked up already."

Old Master Zhan's expression was grave. "Yichen, you don't need to worry about that. If she dares to harm Ah Han in any way, I'll take her life! And her entire Wei family will pay the price!"

His words were filled with authority, sending a shiver down Wei Yumeng's spine.

"But Grandpa, this kind of woman has wicked intentions. Why should she marry my brother? She's not worthy!"

"You all go out. I want to rest." Zhan Mohan, who had been silent until now, suddenly spoke, his gaze sharp and cold.

Old Master Zhan nodded in agreement. "Everyone, leave. We can discuss this another day."

Zhan Yichen glanced at Zhan Mohan, his gaze less hostile.

"Brother, if this woman dares to do anything to you, just call me."

Zhan Mohan let out a sneer. "A woman, and she can't do anything to me."

He, on the other hand, could do quite a bit to this woman.

Wen Yulan looked at Zhan Mohan with a complicated and sad expression. "Rest well. Tell me what you want to eat tomorrow, Mom."

Everyone began to walk out of the room. Wei Yumeng thought that since everyone else was leaving, she probably could too. Finally, she could escape this devil for a while.

As she was about to walk out, a man's chilling voice suddenly echoed from behind her.

"You stay."

Wei Yumeng's heart sank several degrees, and her feet stopped.

Old Master Zhan turned to Wei Yumeng and said, "Take good care of him. If anything happens, you will be held accountable."

Wei Yumeng could only nod obediently. "Okay."

After closing the door, Zhan Mohan coldly commanded her again.

"Help me to the bed."

Hearing his deep, clear, yet utterly cold voice, which seemed to carry an innate indifference, Wei Yumeng's body trembled involuntarily.

She turned and walked to him, taking his arm and placing it on her shoulder, with her other hand around his waist.

But to her surprise, even though this man was paralyzed, he maintained such a good physique, without an ounce of fat, as if he had always been exercising.

However, this man was indeed a bit heavy. Wei Yumeng gritted her teeth, sweat beading on her forehead, almost buckling at the waist. Yet, inexplicably, the pressure on her shoulder lessened considerably. She looked at Zhan Mohan in surprise.

"Mr. Zhan, are you using your strength?"

Zhan Mohan glanced at her flushed face, his dark eyes filled with coldness.

"Do you think a man paralyzed from the waist down can exert any strength?"

"I'm sorry." She just suddenly felt that he wasn't as heavy.

As she carefully bent down to help Zhan Mohan lie on the bed, her foot caught on something, and she stumbled, falling directly onto the man. Worse still, her hands landed on his chest, and she could feel his strong heartbeat through the thin fabric, as well as his muscles. This man's physique must have been amazing before.

What a shame...

It seemed that to clear her name as soon as possible, she had to find a way to investigate that car accident thoroughly.

"Have you had enough touching?"

The voice was so cold it sent a chill to her bones.

She quickly removed her hands, propped herself up with both hands, her cheeks flushed crimson.

"I'm sorry, it was an accident."

"Falling onto my lap just now was also an accident." His words were dripping with sarcasm.

This man...

Wei Yumeng felt a surge of anger. "There are some things I think I need to clarify with you. I'm not marrying you willingly. You might think your legs and your brother's injuries were caused by me, but I've already explained clearly that I wasn't driving that day; I was helping with a designated driving job."

"Shut up!"

"I..."

"I said, shut up!" The man suddenly roared, his voice carrying a chilling authority that terrified her, making her face turn pale.

Wei Yumeng dared not utter another sound.

The man's face was icy cold, his eyes appearing stubborn and ruthless.

"Let me tell you, Wei Yumeng, whether you marry me or not, it doesn't require your willingness. We have evidence regarding the car accident. The only reason we didn't send you to prison is that we didn't want you to be too comfortable inside. Do you understand?"

Wei Yumeng laughed sarcastically. "You just want to make my life miserable, don't you?"

"That's right. You'd better be obedient. When I decide I've had enough, I'll let you go. Otherwise, your seriously ill mother and your entire Wei family will have to pay the price!"

"Zhan Mohan, you are too despicable!" To use such means to coerce her.

"Compared to the fact that you've caused my brother to be in a coma in the hospital until now, this lesson is already quite lenient for you. Enjoy this game, the real show is yet to come."

Hearing his words, Wei Yumeng felt a creeping dread, her skin crawling with goosebumps.

She suppressed her anger, telling herself not to provoke this devil, or the consequences would be unbearable.

After settling Zhan Mohan, she went to the bathroom to wash up. Looking at her pale face in the mirror, she felt an inexplicable pang of sadness. She never imagined that one designated driving job would change her entire destiny.

When she came out, Zhan Mohan was already asleep. After a day of turmoil, she was also exhausted. Old Master Zhan had said that she had to sleep in the same room as Zhan Mohan. However, she didn't dare to take such a risk. After much thought, she cautiously took out a sheet and duvet from the wardrobe, spread them on the floor, and lay down.

She wasn't picky about where she slept. She hadn't had an easy life these past few years and had slept in the most basic accommodations. Coupled with her extreme fatigue, she soon fell asleep.

In the middle of the night, an biting coldness enveloped her from all directions, followed by an unfamiliar scent. Her heart leaped into her throat. Then, a heavy weight pressed down on her. She suddenly opened her eyes but couldn't see the person's face clearly. As she struggled to reach for her phone, her arm was pinned down.

The stranger lightly bit her earlobe and said with a wicked charm, "Still quite vigilant."

"Who are you! I'm warning you, before my husband wakes up, you'd better leave immediately, or I'll call for help."

The man's hand pinched her waist, and he grinned naughtily. "Go ahead and call. Call everyone in the Zhan family. Let them see how the newly married daughter-in-law is hooking up with another man outside. The Zhan family cares most about their reputation. At that time, do you think your purity is more important, or their reputation?"
