Chapter 24 Causing Trouble Under His Nose

Wei Yumeng lowered her head and began to focus on her work, still not fully understanding some things and needing to ask her colleagues. Fortunately, her colleagues were kind and willing to help her.

"By the way, let me introduce myself, my name is Mu Linjing."

"My name is Wei Yumeng."

"I heard them say you got in through the back door. What's your relationship with President Zhan?"

Wei Yumeng thought for a moment, deciding not to disclose her relationship with Zhan Mohan, as it would cause trouble if it spread throughout the company.

"I don't have any special relationship with President Zhan. It's mainly that a relative of mine seems to know a housekeeper from the Zhan family, and it took a lot of effort to get me in."

She spoke in a way that made it sound like a grand achievement.

Mu Linjing touched her chin, as if contemplating Wei Yumeng's words, but did not doubt her at all.

"Then your relatives are really good at finding connections. We all got in based on experience and education. You're quite lucky, you're the second person to get in through the back door in our company."

Wei Yumeng was a bit curious, "Then who was the first one?"

"Director Feng."

"Director Feng?" The surname felt overly familiar to Wei Yumeng.

"It's Feng Shiyi, who was raised in the Zhan family since childhood. She often enters and exits with President Zhan. Our company always felt they made a handsome couple. Director Feng is delicate and cute, and President Zhan is also a distinguished gentleman. They look quite pleasing to the eye when standing together."

After Mu Linjing finished speaking, she saw Wei Yumeng staring blankly.

"Did you hear what I said?"

"Sorry, I was a bit distracted just now."

"It's alright, it's alright. Ask me anything you need to, but you absolutely cannot offend that director we just mentioned. She's a bit younger than Director Feng, but they are a team."

Mu Linjing meant that although their positions were different, they were on the same side.

"What's that director's name? She looks quite fierce."

Especially between her brows, one could feel a fierce aura. Some people, without even interacting, could tell just by looking at them whether they would get along.

Upon hearing Wei Yumeng mention the director, Mu Linjing showed a hint of apprehension. She nervously looked around.

"Her name is Ning Tao. Doesn't the name sound pleasant? But she's not easy to get along with at all. Relying on her being an air-dropped executive, she's the strictest person in the company towards her subordinates, besides President Zhan. You've been assigned to her, so you must be careful."

She had already deeply experienced the difficulty of getting along with her.

"Okay, thank you."

Mu Linjing knew she still had a lot of work to do.

"Let's chat again when we have time."

Busy times always pass quickly. Before long, it was noon. Fortunately, she had finished everything and carried it towards Ning Tao's office.

She placed the documents on the desk.

"Director Ning, I've processed the files you requested."

Ning Tao looked up and saw Wei Yumeng standing in front of her. Perhaps from rushing, beads of sweat were still on her forehead.

She smiled disdainfully, picked up a document, and opened it. "I'd like to see how capable someone who got in through the back door can be."

Wei Yumeng finally understood why she had such hostility towards her from the moment they met.

"Although I know it's not ideal, I still want to explain. I did get in through the back door, but I don't intend to use it to achieve anything."

Ning Tao didn't believe her, giving Wei Yumeng a sidelong glance.

"Do you know? Everyone who comes here says the same thing. You all know exactly what you're plotting. Whether you're quick material or scrap iron, I'll find out with a single test."

Wei Yumeng couldn't boast about her abilities in other areas, but during college, while others were having fun, she was devoted to her studies. When others relied on relatives and family at work, she could only face rejection and rely on herself.

If her mother hadn't fallen seriously ill, she would have been working at a reputable company and had opportunities for future advancement. Now, all of that had changed.

"Since Director Ning doubts my abilities, there will be time in the future. I will definitely prove my strength."

"It better be. Our company doesn't keep people who are just here to eat. You can go now."

Ning Tao's opinion of Wei Yumeng did not change due to her words; instead, she thought the woman was just boasting.

Wei Yumeng considered herself lucky to have narrowly escaped criticism. She had been extra cautious and attentive at work precisely because she feared Ning Tao finding fault with her, terrified of making even the slightest mistake.

She checked the time; it was exactly lunchtime. She planned to grab something simple to eat outside, as there would likely be much more work waiting for her in the afternoon.

As she reached the doorway, she saw a familiar figure walking back and forth with items in hand. She was a little surprised, wondering why her senior would be here.

Coincidentally, Xin Ran turned his head at that moment and also saw Wei Yumeng. A smile gradually appeared on his face, which was as gentle and warm as jade. Wei Yumeng was also genuinely happy to see Xin Ran and waved to him from where she stood.

"Senior..."

Xin Ran walked towards her. "I was just about to call you, and I didn't expect you to come out."

"Senior, is there something you need from me?"

Xin Ran gestured with the shopping bag in his hand. "I brought you lunch. I figured you'd have a lot of work assigned to you on your first day."

Wei Yumeng gladly accepted it, brought it to her nose to smell, her eyes curved.

"It smells so good, Senior. What delicious food did you bring me?"

"It's all things you like to eat. Oh, and this is a gift for you. I know you wouldn't accept money, but you should accept this gift."

She stood on her tiptoes to peek inside, seeing some clothes.

"Senior, I have clothes."

"Those old ones probably aren't suitable for work. Besides, girls should dress beautifully. Don't live such a rough life. Take it."

Fearing Wei Yumeng would refuse, Xin Ran pressed the bag into her arms without further ado.

Wei Yumeng pushed back. "Senior, I can't accept this. You helped me so much before, and the contract was signed. It wouldn't be right for me to accept more from you."

"What are you being so polite about with me? Just take it."

"I really can't accept it, Senior."

The two of them were engaged in a back-and-forth downstairs, unaware that a pair of dark, brooding eyes upstairs had taken it all in.

Fang Xun didn't know what President Zhan was looking at by the window. He recalled him saying earlier that he wanted Miss Wei to join him for lunch.

"Then President Zhan, where should we order from today? Shall I call Miss Wei over now?"

"No need!" His tone was several degrees colder than before. Fang Xun couldn't help but hug his shoulders. What was going on? He had just said he wanted to call Miss Wei over to eat with him, and now he had changed his mind so abruptly.

He shifted forward slightly and finally understood. No wonder President Zhan's face was so grim. This Miss Wei was too bold, acting intimately with another man right under President Zhan's nose.

"Then... then I'll order for just you."

Wei Yumeng ultimately couldn't refuse Xin Ran, who insisted on giving her the items. She could only accept them, thinking that she would treat him to a meal or buy him something when she received her salary.

Her phone suddenly rang. She glanced down and saw it was Zhan Mohan calling. Her expression faltered slightly, and she answered.

"Hello, Zhan..."

"Come to my office immediately!"
