Chapter 404 You have a fever

The driver dropped them off at Zhan Mohan's apartment. Zhan Mohan was already waiting at the door. They entered the house together, and Zhan Mohan gestured for them to sit down. Wei Yumeng then sat down with Mu Linjing.

Mu Linjing let out a long sigh of relief, "That was so terrifying. Those reporters are really persistent. I almost couldn't outrun them."

She hadn't felt it before, but now that she was seated, her legs felt weak. Seeing that Zhan Mohan and Wei Yumeng remained silent, she continued to break the ice, "What do we do about this video now? The comment section is full of people scolding Yumeng."

This kind of situation was the most difficult to handle. They couldn't just delete it forcefully, as that might backfire.

Wei Yumeng, who had been silent for a long time, finally spoke, "Let's handle it with a cold approach for now. We don't know if someone deliberately orchestrated this. Anything we do now would be futile."

Zhan Mohan felt a sense of relief that she could remain so calm even as things had escalated to this point.

He would naturally not stand idly by in this matter, but Wei Yumeng was right. The immediate priority was to adopt a cold approach and ensure Wei Yumeng's own safety.

Seeing that it was getting late, and assuming Wei Yumeng must be tired, he asked Fang Xun to escort Mu Linjing home.

"Your home address has been exposed. She definitely can't go back there. You should go back by yourself today and let her stay here."

This was the only option for now. Mu Linjing patted Wei Yumeng's hand, "Then I'll be going back. Call me if you need anything, don't worry."

Wei Yumeng nodded. She left with Fang Xun. As soon as the door closed, it was just her and Zhan Mohan left in the apartment.

After a long pause, she said, "Thank you."

Zhan Mohan nodded, "Feel free to choose any room in the house. It's getting late, get some rest early."

After all the commotion, Wei Yumeng was indeed exhausted. At this hour, she would normally be in bed resting at the hospital. However, the weather had been stuffy today, which was why she hadn't slept. Then, she had to endure this cat-and-mouse chase.

After a good shower, she lay down on the bed. Her body was extremely tired, but here, she couldn't fall asleep.

Zhan Mohan was in the room next door. She could barely remember the last time they were this close.

She tossed and turned until the middle of the night. A flash of lightning split the sky, followed by rumbling thunder. Soon, the sound of raindrops hitting the glass could be heard from outside the window.

She went to the window and watched as the raindrops grew denser, her sleepiness completely vanishing. She stood by the window for a long time until she felt thirsty and decided to get some water.

To her surprise, the lights outside were on. She could occasionally hear a man's low voice from the living room, as if Zhan Mohan was on a video conference.

She walked out in her thin pajamas. The man frowned, gestured for the meeting to pause, and then asked, "What's wrong?"

She pointed to her throat, "Thirsty, I'm just getting a glass of water."

Zhan Mohan then quietly breathed a sigh of relief. He got up and poured her a cup of warm water from the kitchen.

As the perfectly warm cup landed in her hands, her heart couldn't help but feel a warmth. She gratefully gulped down the water.

"Feeling better?"

She smiled gently, her voice much smoother, "Much better, thank you."

She handed the cup back to Zhan Mohan. Their palms brushed, and she felt the heat from his hand. Subconsciously, she grabbed his hand and fumbled around.

She furrowed her brow, touched her forehead, then Zhan Mohan's forehead. Her face showed alarm, "You have a fever?"

Zhan Mohan hadn't even realized it himself. He just felt a bit groggy, but when he was working, the feeling wasn't as strong.

Seeing that he didn't speak, Wei Yumeng simply flung his hand away and started rummaging through cabinets.

Zhan Mohan was confused, "What are you looking for?"

"A thermometer," Wei Yumeng replied, not looking up as she continued her search. Finally, she found a thermometer in the medicine box.

She quickly pulled Zhan Mohan to sit down and shoved the thermometer into his hand, "Quick, take your temperature."

Zhan Mohan didn't want to cause such a fuss, but seeing her face flushed with worry and her slightly clumsy movements, he couldn't refuse.

He obediently held the thermometer to his forehead. After a beep, Wei Yumeng immediately snatched it back.

"38.9 degrees Celsius? My goodness, how can you have such a high fever and still be in a meeting? Why didn't you tell me? Where are the medicines?"

Zhan Mohan found it amusing, "You're asking so many questions at once. Which one should I answer first?"

Wei Yumeng couldn't help but roll her eyes at him. He still had the energy to joke, so he must not be feeling too unwell.

However, she wouldn't let him continue to have a fever. She stood up and started searching for fever reducers.

After searching the house for a long time, she didn't find any useful medicine.

She couldn't help but wonder, "Why are all the medicines gone?"

Zhan Mohan explained that the old medicines had expired, and after throwing them all away, he hadn't bought new ones.

Wei Yumeng didn't know what to say. She turned and went back to her room.

Zhan Mohan couldn't understand what she meant. Was she going back to sleep?

However, a short while later, she emerged, having changed her clothes. "I'll go buy you some medicine. You wait here for me."

With that, she walked to the entrance to change her shoes. Zhan Mohan pulled her back with a dark expression, "It's pouring outside, why are you running around? I don't need medicine, I'll be fine tomorrow."

Both of them were stubborn. Knowing that it was raining heavily, she insisted on going out, "I'll be back soon. You have a fever, and if it's not reduced, you'll become an idiot."

Zhan Mohan didn't believe this. He forcefully dragged her back, "I don't need medicine, go back to sleep."

Wei Yumeng naturally refused. She sat down on the sofa and said, "Then when will you finish your work? I'll wash a cold towel and apply it to your forehead."

Hearing that she was willing to take care of him, Zhan Mohan terminated the meeting without a second thought. He returned to his room, and Wei Yumeng went to wash a cold towel and apply it to his forehead. She then sat by his side, continuously re-wetting the towel with cold water.

After a short while, she heard the man's heavy breathing. Wei Yumeng couldn't help but sigh. While he was applying the cold compress, she checked his temperature again.

To her utter surprise, the cold compress had little effect. Zhan Mohan's fever had not only not subsided, but it had worsened. No wonder he had fallen asleep so quickly.

Listening to the sound of the rain outside and looking at the numbers on the thermometer, Wei Yumeng gritted her teeth. She tiptoed out of the room. She grabbed an umbrella and went outside. Fortunately, the pharmacy wasn't too far away, and the rain seemed to have lessened slightly.

However, the wind and rain were relentless. It wasn't just raining; there was also wind. The umbrella she held couldn't shield her much. The rain was blown by the wind onto her face and body. The large raindrops hit her with a slight sting.

Remembering that Zhan Mohan had a high fever, she wrapped her clothes tighter around herself, holding the umbrella to her chest, and walked forward with her head down, trying to prevent the rain from getting into her eyes.

By the time she finally reached the pharmacy, she was completely drenched, and water could be wrung out from the hem of her clothes.

After stating her needs, the clerk handed her the fever-reducing medicine. Seeing her alone and pregnant coming to buy medicine, the clerk kindly reminded her to wipe the patient's body more often and use physical cooling methods to assist the medication.

After thanking the clerk, she wrapped the medicine in her clothes and, holding her umbrella, braved the wind and rain to return.

Upon returning home, a wave of warmth instantly spread through her. She didn't bother to dry herself and quickly poured a glass of water, carrying it inside.

Zhan Mohan was sound asleep and hadn't realized she had gone out. He was still groggy when she woke him up.

It wasn't until the medicine was placed in his mouth and slid down his throat that he vaguely realized what was happening. Seeing that Wei Yumeng's hair was still dripping water, he immediately propped himself up and looked outside. Indeed, the rain had not stopped.

His scalding face showed anger, "Didn't I tell you not to go out?"

Wei Yumeng didn't speak. She simply pushed him back onto the bed. He was so feverish that he was completely weak and was easily pushed back onto the bed.

"I've already bought it. Take the medicine and get a good night's sleep, and you'll be fine tomorrow."

This woman completely ignored his words. However, because he was sick, his usually formidable gaze was listless at the moment.

Wei Yumeng wasn't afraid at all. She sat beside him and patted his body intermittently.
