Chapter 397 Did You Forget Me?

Wei Yumeng was completely unaware that someone had already set their sights on her unborn child. After explaining the truth to the elder, it was as if a taut string had finally snapped, bringing her a sense of relief.

Finally, it was the weekend. Considering her heavy mood recently, Mu Linjing suggested they go out shopping.

Since she had no plans for the weekend, she decided to treat it as a way to clear her head.

Early in the morning, after breakfast, the two of them arrived at the mall. After having a child, Wei Yumeng's first stop in any mall was always the maternity and baby store. Looking at the items for infants, she couldn't help but imagine what the little one in her belly would be like.

“Yumeng, look, isn't this little outfit adorable?”

Seeing the tiny baby clothes in Mu Linjing's hand, Wei Yumeng's heart melted. The two of them bought a large bag of items at the maternity and baby store before happily moving on to other shops.

Midway, Mu Linjing needed to use the restroom, so Wei Yumeng obediently waited outside. The men's and women's restrooms in the mall were adjacent, and many people were coming and going. Wei Yumeng leaned against the wall, waiting, unaware of two burly men, heavily disguised with sunglasses and masks, slowly approaching her.

In fact, these two men had been following them all along, but the women, lacking a keen sense of danger, had not noticed.

It wasn't until a hand suddenly landed on her shoulder that she turned and saw the two tall men, finally realizing something was amiss. As she was about to cry out for help, her mouth was covered.

A pungent odor filled her nostrils. Fear surged through her, and before she could react, she fainted.

The two men exchanged a glance and immediately lifted her, heading into the nearby emergency stairwell.

Upon reaching the underground parking lot, Wei Yumeng was roughly thrown into the back seat of a minivan. Her hands were bound behind her, and the car sped away.

Mu Linjing, just exiting the restroom, looked around for Wei Yumeng but couldn't find her. All she saw on the floor in the corner was her own handbag, discarded.

Her first thought was that something had happened. To act so brazenly in a mall suggested the perpetrators had considerable influence.

Wei Yumeng was pregnant. If anything were to happen to her, not only her life but also the life of the child in her womb would be in peril. To prevent a tragedy, Mu Linjing called Zhan Mohan without a second thought. After all, only Mr. Zhan could possibly find Wei Yumeng now.

The call was answered quickly. Before Zhan Mohan could speak, she rapidly explained the situation.

The man on the other end paused for a second before responding in a grim tone, “Got it. I'm on my way.”

After hanging up, she immediately ran downstairs to wait for Zhan Mohan. Meanwhile, the car that had taken Wei Yumeng was slowly driving towards the outskirts. There was an unfinished building out there, rarely visited. The further they drove from the city, the fewer cameras there were, and a few detours would allow them to escape surveillance.

The gravel road outside the city was bumpy, and the minivan's suspension was mediocre. Wei Yumeng, with her hands bound and thrown in the back seat, was jolted by the uneven terrain. Furthermore, she hadn't inhaled much ether. This bumpy ride, combined with the waning effects of the anesthetic, actually caused her to wake up prematurely.

Given that she was just a pregnant woman, the two thugs didn't take her seriously at all. They hadn't bothered to gag or blindfold her.

Upon waking, she quickly realized her extremely dangerous situation. Therefore, instead of struggling immediately, she kept her eyes closed and lay in the back seat, mentally calculating the time.

About twenty minutes later, the swaying minivan finally stopped. The two thugs lifted her out and carried her into the unfinished building.

She tried to keep her body as relaxed as possible, letting it hang naturally, to avoid being discovered.

Tied to a chair, she listened to the footsteps recede before daring to open her eyes a sliver.

In the distance, she saw two powerfully built thugs lighting cigarettes, seemingly discussing that their employer hadn't arrived yet and they needed to wait.

“How much are they paying for this job?”

“Three million. Same old rules, split fifty-fifty.”

“Where is he? Why isn't he here yet?”

“Let’s wait a bit longer. They said they don't want the woman dead, so what are you worried about?”

The two thugs spoke carelessly, and Wei Yumeng heard every word. It seemed these two had no intention of killing anyone. Their motive for doing this was purely financial.

If they were truly after money, it would be much easier to handle.

She thought she might be able to negotiate with these two. Even if she couldn't save herself, she could at least buy herself some time. Lin Jing would surely find a way if she realized she was missing. She needed to buy herself time.

So, she opened her eyes, waiting for the two thugs to notice she was awake. They would naturally come over.

“Well, look at that. You woke up while we were having a smoke.”

Wei Yumeng pursed her lips. “I'd like to know why you kidnapped me. If it's for money, I can give you money, as long as you promise to let me go. I won't report you to the police.”

The thugs exchanged glances. One of them held up a finger and shook it, smirking. “My brother and I are in it for the money, but this is all we're making for this job. We don't want anything more.”

This method of seeking money was truly uncommon, leaving Wei Yumeng a bit helpless.

“I want to know who hired you to do this.”

She could guess, most likely Jiang Siyu. After all, that woman would do anything to get Zhan Mohan. But when it came to not wanting her life, she wasn't so sure.

She knew very well that Jiang Siyu hated her to the bone. If she had the chance to take her life, she would absolutely not hesitate.

But if it wasn't Jiang Siyu, who could it be?

The two thugs shrugged at her question. “Don’t you know who you've offended? Don't worry, he'll be here to see you himself shortly.”

As soon as they finished speaking, a woman's laughter echoed, sounding somewhat familiar.

Wei Yumeng turned her head and saw Wen Yulan walking towards her with a smug, malicious smile, her steps slow and deliberate, followed by several bodyguards in black.

“Wei Yumeng, long time no see. Have you forgotten me?”

So it was her!

Wei Yumeng sneered, never having expected it to be her.

“What do you want?”

Wen Yulan had already reached her. The bodyguards behind her tossed a large bag of cash to the two thugs.

“Three million. To buy this little bastard in your belly. I think it's quite worth it.”

Hearing this, Wei Yumeng's face turned ashen. She desperately wanted to protect her stomach, but her hands were bound, so she could only struggle futilely for a moment.

“How dare you!”

“You dare to be pregnant with Zhan Mohan's child, why shouldn't I dare to help you abort it?”
