Tying his apron, Zhan Mohan asked, "Whose news?"
As Wei Yumeng handed him the phone, it was still vibrating. After a brief glance, she saw that Jiang Siyu was explaining the day's events at the company, lamenting her deep affection and momentary confusion, while also subtly belittling Wei Yumeng.
Wei Yumeng simply handed the phone to Zhan Mohan and watched his face, wanting to see his reaction.
However, his reaction was calm. He simply deleted the message and said, "Don't pay attention to her. Let's continue."
Seeing his lack of reaction, Wei Yumeng felt much better. She didn't care about Jiang Siyu's slander; she had experienced it before. As long as Zhan Mohan didn't take it to heart, they could completely ignore it. After all, a cornered dog would eventually jump over the wall, and everyone had moments of losing control.
After helping Zhan Mohan tie his apron, Wei Yumeng took out the dough-kneading tools from the cabinet. "Come, watch closely. I'll teach you how to knead dough."
Standing beside her, Zhan Mohan placed one hand on her waist, his eyes fixed on her hands, meticulously remembering everything she said.
Wei Yumeng spoke and acted instinctively, but when she turned her head and saw how attentively he was listening, she was genuinely surprised.
She had initially thought that men were mostly uninterested in such things and that it was good enough for him to accompany her to the kitchen. She hadn't expected Zhan Mohan to remember.
Seeing her hands stop, Zhan Mohan held hers. "Why did you stop? I'm listening."
At this, Wei Yumeng couldn't help but chuckle and resumed her actions.
This shared happiness in the kitchen was the daily life of ordinary couples, where the mundane routines of life filled the world with warmth.
Yet, she had fallen for a man who seemed detached from the world's affairs. She had thought she would never experience such domesticity, but seeing his earnestness, a wave of warmth washed over Wei Yumeng.
Perhaps, when one loves someone, they are willing to constantly draw closer to them and integrate into their lives.
She cherished the current stability and had already cast aside the brief disruption caused by Jiang Siyu.
Jiang Siyu was unaware that her messages had been disregarded. She was still hoping that Zhan Mohan would reply to at least one of the many texts she had sent.
After a long wait, she received no reply, and her phone remained eerily silent.
Finally, she couldn't sit still any longer and called Feng Siming. "Has the meeting not ended yet?"
Feng Siming, unaware of the situation, replied, "It's already past closing time. The meeting ended over two hours ago."
Two hours was enough time for Zhan Mohan to go home from work. The reason for his unresponsiveness was obvious without guessing; it must have something to do with Wei Yumeng.
This made her impatient. "Where are you? I'll come find you."
Ever since Zhan Mohan learned that the child was his, his attitude towards Wei Yumeng had improved significantly. He had even had her removed from the company for Wei Yumeng's sake.
Jiang Siyu felt heartbroken. If it weren't for Zhan Mohan's consideration for Old Master Zhan, he would have likely let her go from the company without even needing an excuse.
Thinking this, Jiang Siyu felt a pang of fear. If things continued to develop this way, where would she stand by Zhan Mohan's side?
She arranged to meet Feng Siming and drove off. To reach their meeting spot quickly, she took a route through a residential area. She thought it would be faster, but instead, she got stuck in traffic and was completely immobilized. She couldn't move forward, nor could she back out.
She banged on the steering wheel forcefully and honked her horn, urging the car ahead to move, only to be met with a barrage of curses from the irritable driver who poked his head out.
"What are you honking for? Can't you see there's a beggar and a robbery up ahead? If you're so capable, go break it up!"
Already in a foul mood, she was now being cursed at. Jiang Siyu, enraged, got out of her car and slammed on the front car's window.
However, the irritable driver refused to come out. Despite her curses, he wouldn't show his face, and she couldn't do anything. As she was about to get back in, she caught sight of an older man fighting with a woman over a handbag and found him somewhat familiar.
So, she approached for a closer look. It turned out to be the Mr. Zhang whose company had just declared bankruptcy today. And Jiang Siyu knew exactly why his company had gone bankrupt; she had overheard Fang Xun when he was handling it.
Since she couldn't move, she decided to stay and watch. She was curious why Zhan Mohan had targeted such an obscure small company.
"Give it to me," Old Zhang snatched the handbag he was holding, then examined it carefully. Fortunately, it wasn't damaged; otherwise, she wouldn't get much money for it.
Wei Jin's face was bruised and swollen, her hair disheveled. Seeing the last of her previous handbags snatched away, she couldn't help but sit on the ground and cry.
Old Zhang, showing no prior gentleness, spat, "Bitch, spending my money and keeping a man on the side, spit!"
Earlier today at the restaurant, Wei Jin had managed to stall Old Zhang with the help of a waiter, who was demanding compensation, allowing her to slip away from the restaurant.
To prevent Old Zhang from discovering her address, she had circled around for a while, thinking she had lost him before returning home. However, as soon as she reached her doorstep, Old Zhang followed her from behind.
He snatched the keys from her hand, entered her apartment, and took out all the valuable items she had.
They fought and struggled all the way to the neighborhood entrance. She had thought passersby would help her, but they all retreated to the side after Old Zhang cursed at them.
Now that she had nothing and was desperate, she got up from the ground and slapped Old Zhang hard across the face.
"What do you think you are? You were drooling when you saw a beautiful woman. You even look at pregnant women like Wei Yumeng. Do you know why you went bankrupt? You coveted Zhan Mohan's woman, and you think you're worthy?"
A man's status is his most sensitive point. Old Zhang immediately slapped her again. "Bitch, I will definitely make a comeback."
"Bitch!"
As he cursed, Old Zhang began to punch and kick Wei Jin. Passersby couldn't stand it and were about to call the police. Only then did he pick up his belongings and flee.
Jiang Siyu had been listening nearby. She learned why Old Zhang went bankrupt and suspected that this woman must know Wei Yumeng.
So, while no one dared to help, the usually arrogant Jiang Siyu helped Wei Jin up.
Wei Jin had several red slap marks on her face, and blood was flowing from her nose and mouth. She limped as Jiang Siyu helped her up.
"Who are you to Wei Yumeng?"
Hearing Wei Yumeng's name, Wei Jin's eyes turned hostile. "None of your business. Who are you?"
Seeing her reaction, Jiang Siyu was certain that she had a bad relationship with Wei Yumeng, so she revealed her hand.
"If you want to get revenge on her, I can help you."
Wei Jin was not stupid and immediately shook off her hand. "Why should I trust you?"
"Go to your place, and we can talk properly."
Although she claimed not to trust Jiang Siyu, Wei Jin still brought her back to her home. After briefly tending to her injuries, Jiang Siyu carefully examined Wei Jin. She didn't seem particularly similar to Wei Yumeng.
"Who are you? What do we have to talk about?"
Compared to Wei Jin's impatience, Jiang Siyu appeared much more relaxed. She leaned back on the sofa. "You hate Wei Yumeng, and I hate her too. Therefore, we are natural friends."
Wei Jin had no patience for word games with her and pointed to the door. "Either speak, or get out."
The more she acted this way, the more satisfied Jiang Siyu became. Such an impatient person was often easy to control.
"Simply put, I want her to leave the man I love. You want to make her miserable. We are on the same path."
Only then did Wei Jin look at her carefully. "That's my business. What does it have to do with you?"
Jiang Siyu was not hurried. She looked around at the furnishings in her house.
The furnishings, in fact, were nothing valuable. Old Zhang had taken all the expensive items, leaving her virtually penniless.
However, judging from her clothing and Old Zhang's words, it was evident that she was also a greedy person, and Jiang Siyu liked such people the most.
Because with money, they would do anything.
