Chapter 609 The Rescue

The sight of the red light above the emergency room door made the Mu couple pace the hallway restlessly. The longer time dragged on, the more anxious they became.

Aunt Mu, clutching her phone, walked back and forth several times. Finally, she discussed it with her husband, "Let's call Yu Meng. She knows a lot of people, she can definitely help us."

Here, they only knew the Zhan family. Ironically, the only family who could help them was the one they had offended, and now they had to beg for their assistance.

Uncle Mu was initially too proud to swallow his pride, but he couldn't ignore his daughter's critical condition. His pride paled in comparison to his daughter's illness.

He waved his hand, saying resignedly, "Go ahead and call."

Aunt Mu dialed Wei Yu Meng's number and told her about Mu Lin Jing's situation. Wei Yu Meng was naturally distraught and immediately offered to find better doctors to treat her, promising to rush over herself as soon as possible.

This made Aunt Mu feel quite ashamed; they had been too narrow-minded.

However, they did not get to see the doctors Wei Yu Meng had arranged. The emergency room light turned off, and Mu Lin Jing was wheeled out.

"The patient is out of danger. You should take good care of her. She will wake up in a little while."

Hearing this, Aunt Mu breathed a sigh of relief and followed them back to the ward.

Shortly after, Wei Yu Meng arrived in a flurry with some people. "Uncle and Aunt, how is Lin Jing? This is a doctor arranged by Mo Han. Let him take a look at Lin Jing."

Seeing how concerned Wei Yu Meng was for her daughter, Aunt Mu felt overwhelmed with shame. "Jing'er has already been resuscitated. Yu Meng, thank you so much for coming all this way, and please thank Mr. Zhan for us as well for taking the trouble to find a doctor for Jing'er."

Wei Yu Meng waved her hand. "Auntie, let's not talk about that for now. It's all part of our duty. Let Dr. Li take a look at Lin Jing."

They made way for Dr. Li to approach the bedside. Wei Yu Meng was contemplating whether she should subtly tell Aunt Mu that this doctor had actually been arranged by Zhan Yi Chen earlier.

But before she could make up her mind, Dr. Li suddenly asked sternly, "How long has it been since her rescue?"

Aunt Mu checked the time. "About half an hour. Doctor, what's wrong? Is there a problem with my daughter?"

Dr. Li frowned and examined Mu Lin Jing's complexion closely, finding it unusual. "Logically, a patient who has just been resuscitated shouldn't look like this. Her complexion should be much paler and more drawn."

The others didn't understand these medical nuances and thought a good complexion was a good sign. But looking at Dr. Li's expression now, it seemed it wasn't good news.

Dr. Li voiced his concerns. "It's said that she is currently in the process of detoxifying from medication. She was showing a good trend, but there's a major taboo here. During detox, she absolutely cannot come into contact with that medication again. Even a little bit would render all her efforts futile. Her current complexion makes me worry that it's a result of taking the drug again."

His words startled everyone. Aunt Mu repeatedly denied it. "That's impossible! We've been staying at this hospital all along. The doctors here know my daughter's condition. How could they let her touch the medication again? Besides, those drugs were destroyed long ago. This is impossible."

Seeing their reaction, Wei Yu Meng comforted them. "Auntie, please don't worry. Dr. Li is only speculating right now. Regardless, we must help Lin Jing overcome this addiction. We can definitely succeed."

Dr. Li, noticing her subtle glance, quickly followed up. "The detox process can be painful. Even if her efforts were entirely in vain, it would simply mean starting over. It won't be life-threatening. First and foremost, the family must have sufficient confidence and not give up."

Listening to his words, Aunt Mu felt heartbroken and could only pray that her daughter hadn't touched the drug again.

A short while later, Mu Lin Jing slowly woke up. Seeing everyone in the room, she propped herself up on her arms and sat up. "Yu Meng, why are you here? And who is this?"

"Auntie said your condition had worsened, so I brought a doctor to examine you. How are you feeling?"

Wei Yu Meng helped her adjust the head of the bed and carefully tucked in her blanket, asking about her well-being.

"It's strange, but I feel much better and my body doesn't ache as much."

Mu Lin Jing said this with a hint of surprise. However, everyone else in the room looked at her with concern, as if something bad had happened to her.

"Why the long faces? What happened?"

Wei Yu Meng snapped back to attention and didn't mention their earlier discussion. "It's nothing. This is Dr. Li. She will be responsible for your diet and medication during your detox period from now on."

A flicker of hope flashed in Mu Lin Jing's eyes. "Did you find Dr. Li?"

Wei Yu Meng knew she was asking if this was Zhan Yi Chen's doing, but Zhan Yi Chen had instructed her not to reveal these matters. She could only lie.

"Mo Han found her. Get well soon, and we'll all be relieved."

At this, a hint of disappointment was unmistakable in Mu Lin Jing's eyes. She lowered her head, trying her best to hide her sadness from others. "Thank you, Mr. Zhan. He's a good boss."

Although she tried to conceal it, everyone could sense her low spirits, and the atmosphere in the ward fell into a quiet silence.

After a long while, she finally looked up. "Yu Meng, could you please draft a resignation letter for Mr. Zhan for me? Ever since I took this position, I've taken more leave than I've worked. The company shouldn't keep someone like me idle. There are people more capable than I am for this role."

As soon as she spoke, the most intense reaction came not from Wei Yu Meng, but from her parents.

"Jing'er, you worked so hard to get promoted. How can you just resign? Work is not a trivial matter; it cannot be treated lightly."

Mu Lin Jing replied with a sarcastic smile. "Isn't my resignation exactly what you wanted? I'm in the same company as Zhan Yi Chen, and we see each other all the time. Would you be happy if I stayed like this?"

Her words were blunt but left her parents speechless.

Putting aside whether they wanted her to stay or not, they understood their daughter's complaint from her tone alone.

However, after the recent emergency, no one dared to argue with her on this matter. If her condition were to relapse, who could bear such constant worry?

Seeing that her uncle and aunt were silent, Wei Yu Meng picked up the conversation. "Lin Jing, have you really thought this through? Your promotion was hard-won. It's okay if you really don't want to resign."

Mu Lin Jing shook her head resolutely. "I've already relied too much on my connections. I can't let Mr. Zhan suffer losses because he has a friend like me. That would be too inconsiderate. Besides, I really don't have the mood to stay there anymore."
